is 11-11-11 release date a bad spot?

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 3:00 am

We were talking at lunch and I asked who was buying skyrim. To my suprise everyone said no. I was shocked because a couple months ago everyone was hyped, so I asked why. The answer was simple..too many games. After thinking about it..I understand..Terrible release date. Why release your game when u have BF3, MW3, Batman and uncharted 3 within 2-3 weeks? Think about that, thats prolly 30+ million copies of those 4 games sold BEFORE skyrim hits the market. I can't beleive that bethesda figured this through totally. This game should have come out the first week of OCT or First week of December...IMO.

It's a good thing some people can afford more than one game, or else the entire market would be built upon which games were released first. :spotted owl:

There's other games besides Skyrim that are actually worth buying? News to me.

But think about the TIME it takes to play them. Now your making a player choose what they really want. The casual gamer picking up skyrim is where the money is.

I'd rather it come out this week than the first week of December.

There's lots of other games coming out in the next few weeks and others came out beginning of October.

If you listen to Todd Howard they really didn't care when 11/11/11 was they wanted that date for marketing purposes and it seems to have worked (looks at pre-order numbers).

I want Uncharted 3. I want Assassins Creed. I want Batman. I want Zelda Skyward Sword. But I'm buying one game and one game only, and that game is Skyrim.

I'll buy the other games next year when they are being sold on ebay for £10

and then we learned about a little word called Genres.......

Fall is always the biggest season in the game industry for the holiday's. Those games are still not viewed as direct competition for Skyrim since they all have their own target audience based on the genre. Is there overlap? Of course, but those titles are not going to have a direct impact on Skyrim over the long term.

I can kinda understand. I want to play Arkham City and Saints Row 3 as well, but I know Skyrim will keep me happy for at least a month, maybe more. I'm so hyped for it.

And OP I disagree, I can afford well my gf can afford more than one game. Are there any other open world RPG's coming out around this time? I don't think so therefore the market is there also it is in time for christmas as a present so I don't see what is wrong with it. Not to mention the TES fanbase is pretty huge.

The game will be released on a great date. I hate BF3, MW3, and UC3 so with AC already being released in October, it leaves Skyrim a great spot in November.

So true. I bought BF3 because it came first. If MW3 had come first, I would have bought that. All my mates are playing MW3 right now and I'm sat here like bored as [censored]. However nothing could ever pull me away from Skyrim I've been so hyped since announcement :)

Since most games come out in October thru December to get the x-mass money they will do fine.

Well, BF3 is okay, but MW3 can get lost, that series of games ended with WaW as far as I'm concerned.

In any case, I doubt either game will worry Skyrim sales, as they tend to appeal to a different crowd.

I know what you mean. I somehow managed to save up enough to afford BF3, Skyrim, Assasin's Creed and Halo Anniversary. It'll be interesting to see how well I juggle them with school, work and friends.
I wonder if you could use gaming addiction as a legitimate medical issue?

I don't just buy every game that comes out I cannot afford to, the other games on that list are decent, Batman especially is looking good, but Skyrim will offer me hundreds, maybe even thousands of hours of gameplay for the same price, or £5 less than Modern Wankfare 3. It is my choice over all the others. Perhaps your friends have different preferences when it comes to genre. While Uncharted 3 gtes good reviews and no doubt has a great story I aint forking out for a game thats gonna be over in half a day.

So if you were going to buy a car, you would buy it sight unseen, because heck, they're all cars, right?

No, you purchase based on your personal preference, taste, performance, etc.

There are always a bunch of games being released in the Fall. It is so they can fill the shelves up for the holidays as not everyone has to get the game opening weekend, a lot of folks wait for various reasons, much like a lot of folks wait to see a movie in the second or third week.

This. Only other games I see being worth a damn are The Old Republic (December) and Kingdoms of Amalur:Reckoning (February).

Then again I'm very selective about my games. Most bore the [censored] out of me.

I already purchased BF3 and plan on purchasing Skyward Sword, and Batman (PC) but nothing will be played for a while after Skyrim comes out.
