remember that joke the did a while back, about having baby o

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 9:52 pm

This can't be real. Who would be cruel enough to name a kid Dovahkiin?!?!

No worse than Matt in my eyes. I'm not exaggerating - there were twelve Matts in my year at school. One of your first jobs as a parent is to name your kid so as to differentiate them from other people. They all failed. They ended up known as either their last names, or by their most defining feature: Fat Matt, Spotty Matt, Short Matt, Black Matt etc. Not great in my eyes.

And like I said before, I'd take being named Dovahkiin over being that dike Richard, or even Fat Matt. My niece has the initials BJ. Her names are completely pedestrian, but that one's going to bite her in the ass even if nothing else does.

Poor baby. When I was pregnant and picking out a baby name for my son 2 years ago ( our now 20 month old), my husband and I knew we wanted a name that was not so common that everyone had it but also not so bizarre he'd get made fun of.

What kind of parents would plan having a baby around a video game?
And even if they didn't plan on it, why in the world would they name him after one?

The baby deserves a proper name, not something cheap from a video game. I really don't get people who name their children after a popular band, a sports team, a video game, etc. What's wrong with those people?

Sometimes some people just piss me off. Remember that idiot who named his son after that genocidal dictator?

Seriously, I think you guys are making a big deal about nothing. There are many, many kids out there with what we would consider unusual names...different nationalities etc...The name will be what the kid makes of it. If you want to feel sorry for someone, I heard of a lady in this area who named her kid Ratroy. Yes, Rat.roy.

You miss the point. That isn't even a bad name, if you ask me: it has a nice ring to it and it's original.

The problem here is that HE WAS NAMED AFTER A VIDEOGAME. What kind of parents name their son after a videogame, and even decide that his first photos are of him between videogames??? I feel sorry for the poor child, because those are horrible parents.

I have the middle name "Isa", pronounced "Ee-s-a". I go by that name, and got teased HEAPS for it. Still get remarks about it. I honestly don't care, because I like having a unique name. I don't see how being named Dovahkiin is really that bad, and its certainly not cruel. If he doesn't like it he can by Tom, but personally I think he's missing out if he does.

Still beats all the stripper names kids are getting nowadays... Faith, Hope, that sort of thing.

While we're on the subject of not being able to pronounce names, none of my English speaking friends can properly pronounce my name, it's funny.

I know a kid whose name is Blue, and his last name is Labatt.

Personally, I'd rather be named after a video game character than my parents' alcoholic beverage of choice.

Well, to be fair. That baby was likely planned anyhow.

Remember the Governor of Texas who's last name is Hogg gave his daughter no middle name? He named her Ima and this is what he said of it- "Our cup of joy is now overflowing! We have a daughter of as fine proportions and of as angelic mien as ever gracious nature favor a man with, and her name is Ima!" Anyways she went down in history as one of the most respected women of Texas.

I think it's pretty distasteful how many people believe they can judge parenting on the name given or even the reason it's given. They're are many unfortunate children with parents who truly abuse or neglect them (you would be shocked that the name given to these children will not give it away) that you could be worrying about...probably in your own home town. Instead of being [censored]y about nonsense buy some school supplies and bring them to your local schools so they can pass them on to kids who need them. I understand if you don't like the name, but judging the parenting is really too much.

OT-They will most likely call him Tom...but Dragonborn is very cool. If I were them I'd have lots of dragon art to add to the baby book.

the same type of parents who would name their child after a character in a tv show? im not saying i would do this, but i wouldn't hold it against them if y ou read there blog (there is a link to it in the original article i posted) they talk about how they really thought about it.

What's so bad about naming a child after a video-game?

With uninspired names such as Mahboobeh , Jesus condem and Mann Pigg out there, Dovahkiin is a pretty damn awesome name.

My aunt is also named Zelda. lol

Well, from what I understand the words of the dragon language are actually Norwegian. So it's not a made up language (I don't think). There's also the point that the kid gets to have a name that means "Dragon Soul" for the rest of his life. That, sirs, is fairly cool. Sure the name sounds strange, but lots of names these days sound strange.

Lastly, I see nothing bad about parents taking their child's first picture of him sitting around video games, as opposed to sitting between some other "market acceptable" things like a teddy bear or a plastic toy. What difference does it make? And how does that actually make you a bad parent?

I find it weird that even on a video game forum, people still balk at kids being named after various video game characters. Bet there wouldn't be that kind of reaction if the kid was named after the hero from their parents' favourite book.
