Restart fixed made patch work

Yeah I have noticed that my save file is growing now but it's by very small numbers so it'll take awhile to get to 10mb save file now.
There are different types of data, some are more dynamic and difficult to keep track of (such as bodies). The patch most fixed the refreshing of dungeons which was causing the problem (notice that dungeons do reset now where they didn't before and no mention of this fix is in the notes, so this was the problem). That information was what was hurting ps3 performance and now it is gone. So the save file creeping back up should hurt like it did before. That being said, your save file may be corrupted now due to your actions before the problem was repaired. No telling what sort of glitch that means you brought back with you after the patch due to corrupted save data.

So pretty muvh the patch just gives you longer to play if you restart before the the death star of lag comes and blasts your ps3 like IMAFIRINMAHLAZOR!
Not necessarily. From what I understand, 360 and pc save files also increase into the multiple mbs. This is likely why Bethesda initially said that the file size wasn't the problem, because only part of it was, the rest was supposed to be increasing to track character progress.

Pete Hines declared that we would not have to restart our game for the patch to work. With this being said, the patch is not working as intended (unless by "improvement" he meant "just don't play it for more then an hour... like you guys were doing before").
It said that it improved the performance problem, not that it fixed it. I don't think that was accidental wording.

they CAN'T FIX THE FRAME RATE. It's just not possible unless you give them time to port the ps3 all over again. There are problems with coding that makes PS3 frame rate unstable at times (although improved with the patch). So what they can do is tweak here and there to improve the frame rate but it will never be fixed. Unless Bethesda is willing to let another company to port the game all over again and replace the purchased ps3 copes by the new copy.

But even Beth is not that generous *sarcasm*

If you guys wanted to test the OP theory just take a usb thumb drive and copy a few of your most recent save files over to it to back them up. Then wipe Skyrim from your system. Saves, game data (install), everything. And start over from scratch using the patch from the get go. Granted you would have to play like that for a while before you could accurately determine if it helps the issues or not. But it is possible to test his theory without losing everything you have done.

Personally, I think it will only delay the issues. IMO, what the patch did was clear out the tables in your save file that were tracking the state of objects in the world (chests, dead bodies, etc.). They probably wiped that info from your save, this is why everyones save file dropped in size a decent amount after first saving after patching. And they also did some other little fixes. But yea, I think fixing the item state cleanup issues is what they did to combat lag. A bandaid mostly. But so far it seems to be working OK. But then I never really had ANY issues at all so far. Slight lag on entering a town but its autosaving so that is to be expected. And maybe 2-3 freezes when exiting or entering an area, but thats with 130 hours logged in game. My save is only about 8mb. Yea... My game sits at the pause screen alot... I have kids.

@wounding peregrine

I save quite a bit especially when dugeon crawling. I have 6 saves that I rotate and the 3 autosaves.
