Restart fixed made patch work

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 5:55 pm

Okay so I decided to give Skyrim another chance and see how it works with the new patch.

And all I can say is wow there is major improvement on my end so far.I have seen improved framerate drops and better loading of textures( I dont't see the graphics and less then before the patch).anyway's what I did was delete my old game from the ps3 and re-install the game and deleted my old saves just because I knew that would be a better method for the patch to work properly.I see that alot of people are still having issues and I am too but mostly with quests not working but for now I can deal with that.try my method people and delete your saves and delete installed game and restart I know it sux but it worked for me.good luck to you all and keep gaming friends.

We can't just start over every time a patch is released. Anyways I have no problems so far. My save file is 16MB and after installing the patch, I have played 6 consecutive hours and have had only a little lag after I play for more than 6 hours. But that can be solved by just restarting PS3 and then you can play another 6 hours. I am loving the new patch :) I can finally play again!

I'm skeptical though because even before the patch, my game worked great for the first several hours. No frame rate drops anywhere no matter how much was going on on screen. How far in are you your second time around? My game didn't start slowing down until my save file reached 9 megs. I want this to be the ultimate fix so I can just get back into the game, but everyone is getting a different result from this patch it seems.

My save was at 10MB and after 3 to 4 hours of playing its down to a 9MB. Umm at times it seems smooth but i'm still getting lag, a lil more then before the patch.. I dont know if anything is fixed cept the save is getting lower. I'm really sick of game developers not giving the PS3 the attention to be able to make these games right, instead of their heads up microsoft's ass and claiming 360 to be superior cuz its easier for them to program their games but PS3 has the superior hardware, its a shame really..

Definitely not wanting to delete my files. Eventually I'll want to start a new game, but not right now after putting in close to 100 hours and barely scratching the surface of this game.

Uhhh, yeah. I'm not going to start over. I've done so much already and I'm not going to go through all that ever again. Maybe when I finish most of all the things in the game, be it main quests, sidequests, all the items, etc. then maybe I'll start a new game with a female character instead. Right now, I don't want to restart. What I want is them to fix the issues and have the game at its point of playable and less lag. Free from most of the bugs we've experienced horribly, especially the broken quests.

Remember Pete's tweet. "The patch will not delete your old save file" is very different than "for the patch to work, you will need to start a new save." Of course it's not going to delete your old save...just make it useless.

Well I'm only a few shorts hours in i'd say about 2 or 3 hours so far but I got a massive amount of lag in the old save game and had a 11mb save file going, but game does seem more stable to me now.

lol I know what you guy's and gals mean I was about 54hours in my old save and threw the entire time I had horrible frame rates.but now It's way better and i'm able to play until I get a game breaking quest bug,I'll keep you people posted on the status of performance the further I get into the story and world.it just saddens me that there are to many people unable to play this game in peace.in my 30years of life I can't believe this kinda broken software gets sold in stores.I miss the old days lol. :toughninja:

Thats great to hear! I was talking about this in one of my post earlier. Some people were saying they were having lag issues still. I thought maybe resinstalling the game might help. Good to know it helped you out.

I wish you would have given your old saved game files a shot first. So we could be sure if it was the reinstall or the saved gamed file that did the trick. Oh well, I'm sure some one will try it soon.

so is restarting worth it, because i reallly dont mind starting over if it means my game will run better, but i dont want to delete the save if there is no evidence that it will run any better who else has deleted it and is getting better proformance?

Glad to hear the good news. Let us know when you get back to the 10 meg/54 hour area and how performance is.

You could try starting over without deleting so we could get feedback from both options. But it's totally up to you man.

I'm going to start a necromancer build and see how it goes. I'm tired of restarting my PS3 every 3 hours.

What happens when your new game gets to 10MB+? How do you know it won't have the same issue....?

@Intiate At least I can play the game without getting frustrated then. I just wish I could trade my copy in for the Xbox version. I would of never gotten it on the PS3 if I knew this was going to happen.

In the time you've played so far do you notice the file size going up on your save slower than the first time around? Cause on my first guy it was around a couple hundred kbs more every save.

Yeah I have noticed that my save file is growing now but it's by very small numbers so it'll take awhile to get to 10mb save file now.

So pretty muvh the patch just gives you longer to play if you restart before the the death star of lag comes and blasts your ps3 like IMAFIRINMAHLAZOR!

Then your back to stage 1

BETHESDA PLEASE FIX THE LAG ISSUE INSTEAD OF PROLONGING IT.

WE WANT A REAL FIX!

I guess I'm in the minority now. I downloaded the patch today, and i don't see any improvement at all. I'm 72 hours in, with my save files around 7.5mb

When I run around the countryside, there isn't much of a problem, but the moment I enter Whiterun and try to go around the city, it starts to lag and stutter like crazy. I honestly don't see ANY improvement after the patch. I guess I'll have to delete the game data and try a total re-install. I hope that helps, because right now, the patch does not help! :brokencomputer:

My Game save is around 9Mb and I still experience Massive lag during the 1-2 hour time bracket. Was fighting a dragon earlier and game completely froze for like 20 seconds before it started playing again. While holding a amazing 2fps or so.... I do not dare to walk in a town during that amount of game play. As for playing over 2hours I get sick of the laggy [censored] before that point and just turn it off. Can care less if textures are little worst I just want to be able to play my game.

Pete Hines declared that we would not have to restart our game for the patch to work. With this being said, the patch is not working as intended (unless by "improvement" he meant "just don't play it for more then an hour... like you guys were doing before").

Ya be sure to let us know how it plays once you rweach 8-10 megs or so. I'm curious to see if performance is still improved. I hope so but I seriously doubt it. I think the patch just lowered quality a little and cleaned up some dead dragons and such for a quick boost.
