Riverwood = Dragon Magnet

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 9:05 pm

I think I've been seeing this issue since Skyrim first came out, but now that I'm running Mighty Dragons, it has become unbearable.

Nearly every single time I go to Riverwood (I think it's mostly when I fast travel to the town) I'm getting dragon spawns. does anyone else get this? Is there a way to fix it or work around it?

Bring them down with 2 storm thralls and thunderbolt spam. It's quite easy with enchanted gear.

D'aww. I wish the villages I visit got attacked by dragons! (I'm sure the villagers think quite the opposite.)

I hear all of these tales about dragons attacking settlements, and the only dragon that I've had do something along those lines was a Blood Dragon at Rorikstead, and in then it didn't last long. *huff*

On the topic of fast-travel though. Doesn't fast-travel prompt random enemy spawns on occasion at the moment? It might just be bad luck.

Yes. They appear often in Riverwood for me too aswell. Specially when fast traveling. (PS3 here, btw)
Dunno why though. But when fast travelling to "inner parts" of cities, College of winterhold (Not Winterhold) or Thieves guild (Not Riften) they so far never appeared. 80+ hours played.

I wonder how long you′d need to wait in Riverwood for the dragon to kill pretty much everyone who comes outside? And if you enter building while dragon attacks, will it go on killing people outside? ... I doubt a dragon can enter a building which other enemies can do. Would be absolutely amazing if the dragon could blast through a wall like in the game opening. How about giants? Damn, Imma lure a giant to riverwood and eat popcorn and imagine I′m watching Asterix and Obelix xD

But Dragonrend alone cannot kill it.

A dragon attacked in Riverwood in my first game and not again since then. I stopped fast traveling to towns and now I only fast travel to nearby locations and walk the rest of the way. The towns have all been safe since doing that. The dragons and Dovahkiin mix it up outside of town. :tes:

Never had one in Riverwood.

Falkreath and Riften, on the other hand... Every single time I fast travelled to Falkreath. And every single time I walked out of the Riften city gates.

Now I hardly use fast travel. And have notably fewer dragons.

But Dragonrend alone cannot kill it.

The artistry is not in the kill, but in the execution, if you will. Be not hasty, stay thy death blow, savor (savour for you Brits) the brief time you have with each dragon (dragoun?,) for each is unique, and you will carry its soul until you die.

But, on topic, yes, I see more dragons in Riverwood than anywhere else, particularly when I fast travel.

I always have dragons attacking me at Riverwood. However, I used to get allot of them in Dawnstar as well. Although, I don not remember any dragons attaching the stables of Whiterun? But I did have a dragon attack within the city walls of Solitude. :)

Yeah, I'm getting them almost every single time I fast travel into Riverwood. And I'm using Mighty Dragons (which makes the dragons incredibly, amazingly deadly) and I've started a new game so I'm low level character right now. I use Riverwood as one of my main trading places, so this really hurts me. I simply cannot take on the mighty dragons right yet as I'm too low level.

Add that to the fact that the mighty dragons slaughter nearly everyone who is not set to essential after about two or three visits to the little village and it becomes a near ghost-town.

Never the stables, but I use to get them between Honebrew Meadery and the crossroad by the river. Very annoying, since they always fly away to attack the bandits outside the nearby cave, or the wolves that use to spawn further along the road on the other side of the river, and then back to attack the farms, and it takes forever to kill them just because they fly out of range all the time, and when they finally land it's always on the other side of the river, due to Murphy's Law.

I suspect the mod is at least partly responsible. I've not looked at the editor, but I would guess the chances of a dragon spawning at any of the random dragon encounter spots is probably the same for all of them. If it appears to happen more at Riverwood then that is most likely down to how frequently you visit the place. In my first game I went to Dawnstar a lot, and that's where I had most random attacks. Later games I go to Riverwood more often, and get more occasional attack there. I have a home-made house near a spawn point by Lake Illanolta and guess what: lots of attacks there.

I always get them at the College of Winterhold, some fool ancient dragon who thought attacking all the province's most powerful mages was a good idea. Dem bones, dem bones, dem valuable bones.

No, I don't think there is a fix, except maybe fast travel to a place nearby instead(like Helgen if you are going to Riverwood) and take it on foot from there. Even so they may trigger.

I had this problem on one of my earlier characters, a dragon would often spawn when I fasttraveled to a settlement. The game became quite deserted after a while.

As I understand it, random dragon spawns are set to happen after a certain amount of time. So if you go x hours, you will get a dragon attack. I am not sure what the time setting is. People see them happen often after fast traveling because time still passes while you fast travel. So using FT will often eat up all the time you had left until your next random dragon. Then viola! A dragon attacks. Since people often fast travel to settlements, it means they often get dragon attacks in those places.

I also believe the reason people do not see random dragon attacks in the interior of cities is because they are separate zones from the rest of the world.

Dawnstar as mentioned is another bad one.

I just suggest doing all the quests in Riverwood and Dawnstar as quickly as possible because soon enough there will only be children and guards living there. With one character that traveled a lot through Riverwood the town became a ghost town. Everyone that ever stepped outside was dead. Dawnstar was just as bad when I was in the DB.

I was hoping, hoping that after beating the MQ they attacks on towns would slow down some, but no, just more and tougher dragons show up. And these stupid non-warrior NPC's go running after Elder Dragons with their fists. Heck even my PC would die if I did that.

I once had Riverwood keep getting attacked by a dragon and reloading didn't help (was traveling on foot from Whiterun). For Alvor's sake, I try to avoid Riverwood during the day.

You know I wouldn't mind Alvor dying so much if you could marry his widow. She's one of the best looking women in the game and she comes with a child so it's instant family.
