Rockstar prefers quality over quantity

What do you think about this? Myself i agree 100% with this approach to the gaming market. We all know that every year releases burns out gamers (cod, assassins creed) and whenever people get a GTA usually is really good.

Really but what if i prefer crap but lots of crap ? no really i love quantity up to a degree but when it begin interfere with the quality it isn't worth it, quality first but i do think quantity is important and adds to the replayability of the game.

If it's a sustainable strategy for your company, then sure. I imagine monoliths like Activision have dug themselves into a hole and rely on annual exploitation to keep themselves afloat.

I think it svcks when they take so long to release a game and it's just terrible. *cough*GTAIV*cough*

I can understand taking time with open world games but even then they still seem to turn out worse than the predecessor. I don't think it has anything to do with development time in most cases and more to do with how simple games are becoming. Better in some ways but taking big steps back in questing, stories, and character building.

The PC port for GTA 4 was pretty bad, especially on launch. I heard Max Payne 3's PC port is very good, but they're still using that stupid Social Club service... At least they ditched GFWL.

The problem with GTA IV isn't that it inherently svcks, it's that it was an entirely new style and game in the series that people just couldn't quite adapt to. I enjoyed the DLCs, but most of the base game's missions were all dark and grim. The only missions in the main game I enjoyed was the mission in the hotel penthouse and dealing with Playboy X. The rest of it was to grim to me, but Ballad of Gay Tony and Lost and Damned were great storylines IMO.

I could never get into GTAIV because of this, I loved San Andreas though.

I find the Assassins Creed games rather good, no respect for games like CoD though.

But I think I agree, I've liked all the installments of GTA I've played. Even IV, though I think I get why some doesn't like it.
I hope V is as good as I hope.

I've always prefered quality over quantity myself. I think that's a good philosophy.

I know what you mean, GTA IV sort of feels like the odd man out.

I happened to truly enjoy the grit and grime of GTAIV.
It's not that I DON'T enjoy the atmosphere. By any other name, the game would be a flawless gem for its time, the problem is, GTA has always been relatively light hearted, and there were some light hearted moments in GTA IV, sure, but its humour was overly toned down compared to Vice City or San Andreas. To some it may be a good thing, or a bad thing, but I felt it removed some of the crass charm GTA has always had.

I loved GTA IV and all of its DLC. TBOGT has to have been the best GTA storyline by far.

I really don't see how people can hate on GTA IV, that game was pure gold. I thouroughly enjoyed every second of it. Sure it was different gameplay-wise from its predecessors and the story was a bit more grimdark but I still thought it was a blast. Not to mention all the new side-missions and such, driving home drunk has never been so fun. Not to mention all the enjoyment you can get from the physics engine (which they've somehow made even better with recent Rockstar releases). The DLCs were also amazing, not as long as the game but they managed to pack with them with as much content as if it had been its own full game. Though the Ballad of Gay Tony was a step in the right direction towards what I envision future Grand Theft Auto titles to be like, kinda grim, but still light-hearted in the content and such.

Anyway, I thought GTA IV was an amazing game and I will gladly shell out money for a release-date buy on GTA V, maybe even the CE or whatever depending on what's included. One thing they could've definitely improved on though was the clothing, I was sorely disappointed with the lack of customization considering all the things you could do with your character in San Andreas.

Also I just realized that GTA IV was released April 2008, hard to beleive it's been so long.

GTA IV had flaws but was still an incredible game. Hopefully they'll learn their lessons and GTA V will be stunning.

Not only am perfectly fine with that, but I prefer it. I completely lost interest in CoD and Assassins Creed because they just churned out crap year after year.

I didn't mind them being there in San An, as they were optional and mostly just provided powerups or bonuses, but GTA IV felt like it was forcing you through these stupid fetch quests when you just wanted to be playing the sort of missions that GTA is renowned for.

I've always wondered if Read Dead Redemption was supposed to be Rockstar's redemption. :P I think they got the mix of gritty realism and humour right in RDR. And the world was fun to explore again like San An.

I'm just starting to play GTAIV now and I know exactly what you guys mean. Liberty City itself is fantastic but the game is missing something and now I think part of that is humor. There's some things they did right, like how you escape the police and wanted levels, and other things they did wrong like annoying friends, and overall it's just not as captivating as Vice City and San Andreas. San Andreas especially had humor and fun things to do. I don't want a thug's life simulator, I want San Andreas-type gameplay updated for modern PCs.

As for quantity vs quality, I'm all for quality so long as that doesn't mean it's years between releases. I don't want a new game every damned year like EA does with it's sports titles, but I don't want to wait years for a sequel either, and unfortunately that's what "quality" means.

Assassin's Creed definitely gets the award for 'series with most potential taking the worst possible route'

I don't like Rockstar, don't like their games either. The last one I enjoyed was GTA San Andreas. Their absolute worse has to be Either GTA 4, or Red Dead Redemption. They chose to go from entertaining kind of funny comedic stories to... that. Some of the most overused and generic stories often featured in books and films. The gameplay was not enough to save those games after the characters all got boring. Then they look at me with a straight face and expect me to care for these so overused and one dimensional characters.... ha. I don't think so. GTA 4 was dipped in molasses or something, playing the game felt slow. Like they don't know how a human body moves or works. I just got fed up trying to control what felt like a bloated whale. The slow down effect made everything in the game seem twice as boring. The whole reason why the free roam aspect is so fun in the older titles is they're fast. This is slow, and boring. There just didn't seem to be as much to see or do other than generic bad simulator 1.0.

Red Dead Redemption is guilty of all the same problems. The stuff in that game were again slow and boring. Nothing interesting to see or do. Again they somehow managed to get everything to feel like it got dipped in molasses. It was a slow game, with a generic slow plot that could easily have been wrapped up. But it grabs you by the temples and forcibly drags you through the mediocre dregs.

More and more I get the impression Rockstar wants to make movies and not games. That's good for them, but what makes a good movie doesn't make a good game for me. I have written them off. I will never ever play any of their stuff again. I just can't stand it, it all feels too much like some horrifically evil combination of a bad movie + bad simulator + tons of brown molasses to slow everything down and give it that brown veneer so many games love.

Edit
Don't even get me started on their absolute piss poor PC ports.

GTA hasn't seen that much quality apart from "GTA III" for the original XBox.

Normally it's been a sandbox where you could do tons of things... poorly.

I go back to GTA IV and it's so awful it's almost unplayable.

"LA Noire" and "Max Payne" have definately been quality titles though and there's no reason "GTA V" shouldn't be as well.

You really rate LA Noire more than Vice City, San Andreas and IV? Noire has gorgeous environments but it's painfully shallow and dull.
