Role playing experiance

. Why shouldn't the same be said of the Mages guild? If the game, for no good reason, had no physics and you could simply fly everywhere in much the same way as the no-clip command works, would it be my 'fault' for not roleplaying 'correctly' if I chose to exploit that? Or would it be Bethesda's 'fault' for not implementing something that would arguably make the game world better if it had been added?

It would be YOUR fault. All the choices you make are made by you. For everything that you can do, you can just as easily not do. The mages guild does make you display magic to join. If all he can do is cast basic spells and is a warrior or a thief, why are YOU role-playing him as arch mage? My assassin, in his quest to become a better assassin, join the mages guild for the sole purpose of training illusion and obtaining the high level illusion spells. He never cared about the college or there problems he just needed illusion magic so he could bend the minds of his victims.

Ah the famous immersion arguement. Immersion is what ever keeps you immersed into a game or character. For me rules imposed on my character based on what someone else thinks he should or shouldnt be able to do does not keep me immersed into my character. As far as realism goes, being able to be the arch-mage without being proficient in magic is very realistc. I know alot of people who are in high position who don't know half of what those underneath them do. Lol.
