Is it rude to subject others to your taste in music while dr

Post » Sun Jul 15, 2012 3:48 am

Haha, so I finally got my car yesterday and now I'll be driving a bunch of my friends into town tonight and I'm sitting here making a playlist on my iPhone and was thinking, is it rude to have a setlist of music I want to jam in my car that my friends will probably hate?

Lol. We usually listen to rap when other people drive, which I don't mind, but I think it'll be interesting when they step into my car tonight. :) Loading up on all kinds of local bands from back home with some recognizable classics mixed in here and there. Hard rock and some emo.... Some 'out there' stuff (by out there I mean stuff I at least don't hear a lot on the radio)...

When you drive other people do you often have this desire to play your absolute favorite music for them? Or do you let them choose?

I force all my friends to listen to Rammstein. Your car, your rules.

Haha. I should get some random foregin language music and just jam out to it and see how long it takes before someone says something.

It's your car, you can play what you want, but yes, it is kind of rude. I'd say just keep the volume low so it's only background noise under people talking.

This is a difficult dilemma. On one hand, it really, really svcks when someone makes you listen to music you don't like for long periods of time... On the other hand, it's really, really fun to make someone listen to music they don't like for long periods of time.

It's not so much what you're listening to, as how your listening to it. If you've got it up loud and obnoxiously covering up everything so no one can talk very well it's not a very nice thing to do. Your car your rules, I'm pretty sure the others would be aware of this. Hence the only reason why people probably all agree with that rule; if they tried to argue over it, it could mean you could argue over whatever you want in their car. Mutually assured greed.

Edit
There can be exceptions to the rule, but if they pester me too much I would at least expect to be able to pester them that much when I'm in their car next.

Dude, I rode with this one guy the other weekend and no joke he puts on Justin Bieber "Boyfriend" and I'm like...'is that Justin Bieber?' and he's just like 'yeah' and turns it up, straight face, jamming out to the Biebs.... It was kinda scary....

I think I've settled on Spice Girls :)

This. Luckily my friends generally don't mind Deadmau5, Justice or Daft Punk.

Just as long as people on the street or in cars nearby don't have to listen, it's all good.

Seriously, set the volume so your friends can talk and play what you want.

I have a playlist of the worst music that I use just for the occasion that there is traffic.

When you drive, you choose. That said, don't be a total dikewad about it. Keep the music at an acceptable level and be open to suggestions. With my car stereo, I have an aux jack and a USB slot, so if anyone brings their own musical devices they can plug it in and play some of their tunes if they want; or they can scroll through my 120GB iPod and see if they can find something they like  . I wouldn't worry about it too much though, as long as you aren't subjecting people to intense amounts of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-N1yJyrQRY, the United Nations should stay off your back (or Russia will veto).

Worse, I was given a Lincoln Park album once as a gift. I put the CD in my car and plug in my headphones so I can listen to something else.

These. It's an unwritten guy rule that every man adheres to. I've had to sit in buddy's vehicles and listen to their garbage, but without complaint.
