Saints Row 3..

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 10:30 pm

It's basically a GTA that out-GTAs GTA. If that makes any sense. It's a highly over-the-top and very crude game in the most hilarious way possible. Lots and lots of immature humor. If your kid plays GTA and Red Dead Redemption he could probably handle it though
Pretty much, yeah. SR basically started out as a GTA clone, but while GTA 4 took a turn towards realism and seriousness, Saints Row got sillier with each game and especially with Saints Row 3.

It's silly and over the top in a 'we know we are silly and over the top and we don't care' kind of way though, which is good.

Well, besides the sixual weapons, like the [censored] bat. Which is called "The Penetrator" in-game it's okay. Just depends on how mature he is. I was mature enough to play games like SR3 when I was 12, 4 years ago.

Yeah same, I distinctly remember playing GTA III in second grade and I turned out fine... well, almost fine

Been playing it for a few days now. Think I liked SR2 better. Can't really put my finger on why, though.

I spoke to my wife about it this morning. After reading through this thread (sorry I'm replying so late) and told her about some of the stuff you fine people have mentioned as to being int he game and she said to me, 'He'll be fine. He doesn't repeat anything he sees and he certainly doesn't say anything or act [censored] when playing LA Noire so he'll be ok with it.'

She said she was going to go back to the same Gamestop where the idiot employee works and I told her not to bother, I'd go tomorrow on my way home from work and grab it at a different store. I don't need him saying anything to my wife about it just because she brings our 2 year old in the store.

Hektas, I honestly don't see the appeal in the game. I watched some videos online and the one posted here in this thread and its not something that I'd enjoy, looks ridiculous to be honest. But then again, I grew out of the GTA idiotic games after San Andreas. They just don't appeal to me anymore. Guess that's why I play RPGs now.

Me personally, I wouldn't let my 12 year old if I had one play it, out of fear of bad impressions and etc, but I'm not interested in playing ethics here. But if you feel your kid is already relatively cemented in who he is, then I don't see why not. Honestly, if your kid has player Grand Theft Auto, Saints Row the Third really isn't bringing that much of anything different to the table. Although I have issues with it's lack of depth compared to 2, but if your kid is just looking for 'Teh lulz' he'd enjoy it, as there is plenty of that.

Yeah, he's not one for story or depth. So, he'd enjoy it I suppose. I never got censored as a kid growing up. Once I hit 12 my parents let me watch R rated movies and play whatever games I liked so I'm not about to stop my son from doing the same. Of course its not a "weapons free" type of thing either. Its all within reason. If my wife and I think it's too crazy we don't let him.

Nah, really, the worst I can think of is a mission or two involving a bdsn club, but it doesnt really delve to detailed into any of it.

I ignored it. Hopefully when he happens upon it he just thinks it's a wiggly bat or something. They don't explain what it is in the game do they? Hopefully the characters in the game don't point out what a [censored] is then I'd have to explain it.

Yeah, that too, and if you don'y mind him going to an in-game bdsn club, it should all be fine.
