No fast travel and that's about it. I sleep when I can, but that's mostly for the bonus.

None. Because I'm playing as this character with a fixed backstory and family he quite clearly cares about, so it would be his rules.
Well, I don't spam fast travel. Especially if I'm going through the glowing sea. No cheap "Fast travel without power armor or anti-rads" for me.
Rule 1; Only use Fast Travel to store items and always Fast Travel backwards to the nearest Fast Travel point to continue where you left off.
Rule 2; Write diary entries of character moments.
I may consider imposing a weapon limit on myself, but I am not certain yet. Most of my personal rules are strictly roleplaying oriented. Stuff like separating loot in appropriate containers and locations in my home base. I should note that I have several mods that make things artificially "easier", though in my opinion, they only help focus the experience. I am not very fond of inventory micromanagement and weight limits, so I removed mine. I know that's probably a faux pas for many, but I know myself and I would fast travel to a location three times if it meant cleaning the place out. Gamer OCD, as I call it. I want to play optimally.
i pretty much impose 1 rules on any Bethesda game i play and is no Fast travel
I can recommend getting asbestos lined chest armor and smash molotov cocktails in melee range. It's pretty fun!
First playtrough on normal no rules fast travel etc. Very OP and not so fun. Did not use power armor once and no companion.
Rules second playtrough on survival: no fast travel, no power armor, no companion. Looks before stats when wearing armor. I am wearing the road leathers or the raider leathers with som leather or raider armor most of the time. Maybe upgrade to metal armor. No hat/helmet because they all look like crap. I thought the game would be insane hard to play this way but i am making good progress and having most fun in higher level areas on level 13 - 17. Melee chem user build. When i am sick of second playtrough i am going straigth to dead is dead.
Been piloting a suit of power armour for quite a while, and I'm coming pretty close to how I want my Fallout 4's character armoury to look. Power Armour means he can carry a lot more weapons and ammo for them, so with that in mind ive got him a giant minigun with 5000 rounds as his main arm, although he needs to develop it a bit better because he used a longcoat and bolt-action rifle as his main arms before. Also with him is a .44 revolver with 500 rounds for more precise shots, although I'm not going to stick a scope on it since I don't like scopes in any shooter-ish game, and that same 10mm pistol he's had as a sidearm for forever, with 500 rounds over there for varmint killing.
With the X-01 all kitted and wielding that giant minigun he seems to have evolved pretty well from his initial character. He's gone from a scared survivor with simple weapons trying to do the right thing to being introduced to the Brotherhood and going grand with a long term plan to eradicate the wastes of the filth that inhabit it. Power armour, heavy weapons, what would probably be pretty evil karma, that provides a stark contrast to my other two Fallout characters, which I could kinda see coming into conflict with someone like the person ive created in Fallout 4.
I have only one self-imposed rule when playing a Bethesda game:
Rule 1: Play exactly how I feel like playing at any given moment.
Should I fast travel? See Rule #1. Should I eat, drink, and pretend I'm pooping on a toilet? See Rule #1. Etc.
I am running a similar setup. I use a combat knife, Deliverer and a shotgun (for those up close and personal moments.. mostly ghouls). No sniper rifle. None of those fancy-schmancy laser rifles - they all get scrapped, given away or sold.
Lots of fun. My only issue is I wish there was a companion what was stealth friendly. The best is Deacon, be even he stops on mines, stands up and shoots.
One of my bigger gripes with the game. Tried to sneak with Nick and Piper when I pulled his ass out the frying pan, just to see if Nick would comment on the out come differently when I do. But nope, Either he or Piper (most likely Piper) kept giving away their position. And I kept reloading and retrying every time it happened. I tried to pull teeth just for a line of dialog and I didn't even get it because of weak AI.
What does Nick say if you stealth sneak that part anyway?
I usually try to sleep or give the characters some kind of water. I also try to play to my characters class.
My stealth characters I monitor how much they are carrying because I don't want to be heard.
Where as more gun n run characters carry more for more options.
Is that just for roleplay reasons or does weight actually affect stealth?
I try to sleep every night, and upon waking I make a named save via the console. If I die at any point the most recent sleep save is the save I have to go back to, even if it's hours back. I can't make myself do dead is dead, but death does need a little sting to encourage caution.
I was doing the no fast travel thing, but I broke down and gave myself a single exception ... I can fast travel between settlements, but only along supply lines.
Not much....
1.No fast travel
2.No Fat man
3.No console commands
Pretty much it....
no fast travel, no god weapons, no vault suit, making sure to eat, drink and sleep often
1. No drug or alcohol use, I actually delete characters if I hit the wrong thing by accident while using the aid tab to heal in a fight.
2. Three gun + one explosive (max 6) limit. Typically a sniper rifle, shotgun or combat rifle, side arm, frag grenades. If I change to a heavy weapons loadout I leave the sniper rifle and grenades behind 'cause I'm no longer interested in being quiet and explosives are redundant.
3. If someone shoots me they die. I will chase them to the map corners if I have to. Don't care if they beg for mercy the whole time. This rule is non-negotiable.
4. I have to have a really good reason to put on the power armor. Like going into the glowing sea good, it's not for everyday use imo.
Level limit. 100 and no higher. Might sound pretty high, but trust me, you'd be surprised how little you can get with 100 levels.
