Sherlock

I deduce that this "Frodo67" is already a Doctor Who fan, and certainly expects great things from the British.
I know Matt Smith auditioned for Watson but they said he was more suited to be Sherlock Holmes. Doesn't Steve Moffat write for the show?

EDIT: Curses the the previous series isn't available on iPlayer and Netflix doesn't have it either. Now i'm all sad.

Yep, Moffat is one of the creators and lead writers for it. Seeing that he was heavily involved with the series was one of the things that made me first check it out (knowing very little else about it at the time).

Uh oh. I don't like the Moffat/Smith-era Who as much as the Davies/Tennant Who.

Also, it features Smaug and Bilbo Baggins.

Aw, and here you had me thinking Vito Cornelius was in this show. Then I realized the obvious.

Since I'm in America, no I haven't seen the BBC series. But thanks for letting me know.

Sherlock Holmes is a favorite of mine. Hopefully it will be available in the U.S. on DVD eventually.

I'm going to point out two things to you, sir:

It's available in the US. Instead of being on BBC it shows up in Masterpiece Mysteries. I've watched two episodes.

It's also available on DVD. You can order it from the PBS website, here: http://www.shoppbs.org/family/index.jsp?categoryId=3529703

The show is amazing. Literally amazing. Both my step-mom and myself are huge fans of the books/Jeremy Brett series and we both love it. Watch it. Do it.

I thought Jeremy Brett's Holmes was a little odd, a little obnoxious and arrogant, which is the whole point, but I really think Benedict Cumberbatch has shown us a masterclass in acting through inhabiting a character. Cannot recommend this show enough. Even the funny bits are funnier than some shows that are actually supposed to be comedies, and they are in no way this series' raison d'etre.

I don't see any Pokemon here, I was lured here on false promises and hopes. You better have candy, rare candy, or I'll be giving Mr.Sherlock a call to find the pokemon! :stare:

I like Robert Downie Jr, I've never given the 1st movie a watch but the newest one looks good, just need to band a few friends together to go see it. Never liked the cartoon much way back when, much preferred to watch...Pokemon :D

I agree with most people that have seen this show that it's really top notch.
Brilliant acting and scripts add to the impressiveness that they've managed to adapt the books to modern day really, really well.
I feel bad that you lot in the U.S don't get this to watch very easily, it's really good.
I also agree that it blows the film 'Sherlock Holmes' out of the water, it's far more intelligent and it doesn't really seem to try as hard to work the audience - it just does.

Has anyone worked out how he pulled off the ending of the third series yet?
It's quite a well debated topic among me and my friends.

If it's the right series I'm thinking of, then I'm afraid I must admit I don't really like it. It's too far-fetched how he resolves a case by deductive reasoning alone in like a few moments. And too many flashy effects on screen that distracted me.

I'm assuming it's something to do with whatever help he asked Molly for, but beyond that I have no idea.

Well yeah, I figured that because he went to see her, and I'm pretty sure it happened on the hospital she works in as well.

Don't you just hate it when they tell you the clues are all there in the episode, but you are still completely in the dark?

One of the best shows on TV right now. I love Steven Moffat. About the movie, really, I don't see what's with all this comparison. The RDJ film isn't supposed to be intelligent or loyal to the source, it's supposed to be a slightly clever action film, and it performs that purpose perfectly (I haven't seen the second movie, though).

Spoiler
One thing's for sure. He planted that bicyclist to knock John over. Remember on the phone, he kept telling John to stay right where he was. The only possible thing I can understand so far is that he sent Moriarty's body off the roof and then pulled a switch, with Molly's help, at the bottom of the building while John was knocked down (he could have been out cold for a couple minutes, for all we know. The paramedics did get there awful fast for something that supposedly happened five seconds ago).

Still, that just sounds too easy. It has to be something more clever...

Yeah that's definitley the same thoughts that I had, but like you say it's far too easy. I read an article that said that they had made it obvious throughout the series, and that the audience would kick themselves when they realise what it is. I can't wait to find out. It seems to always be the most obvious things that elude our notice.
