Sherlock

Anyone watch Sherlock, the BBC Sherlock Holmes TV show? It's probably the best thing on TV at the moment. Smart, witty, great actors, great script... It blows the new Robert Downey Junior movies out of the water. It's a pity there are only three episodes per season. On the plus side, season three is officially confirmed! Damn I love this show.

Also, it features Smaug and Bilbo Baggins. :D

I do, comes on tonight, right after Downton Abbey. It's dark, and wickedly funny. I also like the twist of it being set in modern times, and how it discretely, tounge in cheek, pokes fun at itself and other forensics/detective shows.

Ah I love it. The fact that it stays true to the books in feeling, the interaction between Holmes and Watson, makes it even better.

The chemistry between Cumberbatch (what a name) and Freeman is perfection.

Since I'm in America, no I haven't seen the BBC series. But thanks for letting me know.

Sherlock Holmes is a favorite of mine. Hopefully it will be available in the U.S. on DVD eventually.

That said, I really enjoyed the first Robert Downey/Jude Law Sherlock Holmes movie. I haven't seen the new one yet. In my opinion that was one of the best movies in quite a while.

If you get the chance, definately check it out.

I also enjoyed the movie, but this series just stomps all over it. The storylines are far cleverer.

Indeed it is. Their first meeting in the mortuary in the first episode is one of the best dialogues in a serie I've seen yet. Not just the writing, but the interaction, the chemistry between them as opposite yet similar people is brilliant.

I'm interested to see how this comes across in The Hobbit as Cumberbatch is Smaug and Freeman is Bilbo. :P

Though I love the movie, I was a bit disappointed in the deductions. Most of them could not have been made by the audience.

The chemistry between Robert Downey and Jude Law was great. I also like the depiction of 19th century London, the music, etc. Oh and for some reason I really liked the guy who played Inspector Listrade.

But anyway, I will keep an eye out for the BBC version. There are some great series from the BBC.

I really wanna see it, but I'm not sure if we've got it here in Norway. We have some BBC channels though ( 3 different called BBC Entertainment, Lifestyle and Knowledge), the question is if they've broadcasting it over here.

If you were disappointed by the 'detective' side of the movies, then Sherlock is for you. There is lots of deduction-y stuff but it's far more clever than in the Guy Richie movies. The show pretty much always gives you enough to work it out yourself, but it's smart enough that you're unlikely to get it before Sherlock does (and you'll be kicking yourself on the reveal).

I wasn't planning on seeing The Hobbit, but I'll keep my eye on it now :)

I also really like the comparisons between the TV serie and the books. A study in pink and a study in scarlet comes to mind. And the cabbie as replacement for the coach. They stay true to the original feel of the books in that aspect, which makes it all the better :)

Yep, they tend to take a lot of elements from the original books. The Hounds of Baskerville is a good example. Great episode too. :)

I watched season 1 on Netflix a while back and it was absolutely excellent. I'm currently waiting for season 2 to be made available.

I deduce that this "Frodo67" is already a Doctor Who fan, and certainly expects great things from the British.

I just checked on Amazon.com in the U.S.A. and the first season is available on DVD.

It has 311 reviews and got a full 5 stars (max rating). So I'm guessing it is good.

Thanks for bring this to our attention.
