We should have more control over the topic we make

Its very common on here for two of the same threads competing with each other. You also get loads of the same threads but with slightly different wording.

It's not a very big problem. It happens because either people want their own thread for their thing, or they didn't see the other thread (by not using the search). One of the threads will get locked by a moderator. If not, one will die away by the forum monster eater at page 9999.

OMG for all you ppl who dont read here is the message i am trying to get across.WE SHOULD HAVE MORE CONTROL OVER THE TOPICS WE MAKE. Fine if i cant delete my own stuff but thats a small peice of the pie

You are posting information on a website owned by a company who is letting you post for free. If anything, it technically becomes their 'stuff', not yours. They'll decide what stays and what goes and that's fine by me and just about the rest of us.

I still don't get it you're not making much sense. I'm guessing you want to be able to delete threads you made?
Just press the report button or PM a mod if you want your post or thread deleted.

I don't think threads can get deleted by request. They'll probably just get locked, unless there's some bad stuff on the thread (like, illegal stuff with a bunch of links all over the place).

Changing the name of the topic would be fine with me. It's not really needed though. All the other stuff, I don't think so.

You'll find very few people anywhere who agree with you. If you question is answered then it should stay in place for others to see. Perhaps the people who were able to answer it won't be available in the future and won't be able to answer it for others.

Forum topics are like discussions. You may have sparked the discussion, but you would never tell a group of people to stop talking about something you suggested (unless they're in your house and you're tired of it), so the same goes for forums. If you aren't interested in it anymore then you can ignore it. It's only your concern as long as you have any interest in it. If you don't like the opinions of others, that's your problem and yours alone. Nobody is going to help you censor others because of that.

Systems that work like you described tend not to include as many interesting discussions. This, and what I said about the availablity of answers is why forums are almost always designed so a topic starter has no special control unless they are also a moderator.

Well if you want to change the name of your thread (or anything else) then PM a mod.

The cool thing about this site is not having control over your threads. If you could change the name of your topic then people may not find it again if they tried to search for it. There was only one time I needed to change the title of my thread and a mod did it for me shortly after I asked. It gives the mods something to do because I mean really they don't have the Skyrim thread or anything to watch ever... I mean they're practically bored because we're so well behaved here. *Reads the replies to this thread and retracts last statement.

If you change the topic of the thread, you can potential shift the entire context of it. I get what you're saying, you want to be able to edit the subject in case there's a spelling or grammatical error, but for future reference: don't post it unless you're 100% satisfied.

Beth's forums, Beth's rules.

Administrating forums is hard work, but unless they are controlled they turn into absolute nightmares...and as this is Beth's official corporate forum, they really can't afford that to happen, particularly seeing it's a 'family friendly' site.

I understand your point of view, but as I said, it's Beth's trainset and they can set it up how they like. Regardless of what anyone thinks, you have no rights.

That being said, isn't Bethesda's forums a much more civil and stable place to discuss gaming topics? There's very little for anyone to complain about.

...not morderator kind of control but definatly more then what we have
we should be able to change the name of our topics
delete posts.
And delete our topics.
It would be nice, but all of these could, and would be, be exploited.

Capital is right.

I'm a long standing member of Creative Assemblies forums, and a few years back they opened up to allow people to have open slather on their avatars and sigs...in all honesty, it took nearly a month to clean up the mess...some people were absolutely disgusting with what they came up with, and it caused no end of problems. Now they have a very strict limitation on what you can and can't do.

Discussions can get out of hand very quickly, even on these boards, which is why there is a fairly heavy level of moderation, which is considerably more cut-throat around the time of a game's release, due to the workload....but on the whole, these forums are well moderated and well controlled, and well behaved.

While I would agree that it would be nice to be able to edit much of our own stuff, people would abuse it...it is the internet, after all.

Well, you can't ever say that. Certain rights people have regardless of what the entity setting up a website thinks. For example they can't decide to exclude people based on race.

Anyway, what this guy is arguing is that the rules are bad. There may be bad rules around here, but the lack of editorial control OPs have over their topics certainly doesn't count as one.

And I would disagree that there are any bad rules around here. It's all about preference. I've been here for quite some time and will stay here soley based on the rules they have established that keeps the peace. I can be silly and goof around but it's not out of control and insulting. If I want to talk about certain things that aren't allowed, there are places to do so, but this is the place that I can go and talk with mostly intellectual people. I can come here with problems with my technology or search the previous threads and find solutions to all sorts of things because things are kept in proper order.

I didn't insult you, so why do you have to throw names around just because I don't agree? You've earned yourself a report.
