Should I take Boone instead of Arcade Gannon?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:50 am

Well all I see over the forums these days are how great boone is and how everyone uses him. I am actually surprised as I have Arcade Gannon and he does pretty well and saves/is very helpful in most casses. I have been fine with him for a while but I was just wondering what is so good about Boone and should I have him instead as a companion?

This guy is fairly correct. Boone is like a Liberty Prime that fits through doors. :gun:

But companion wise he's pretty boring. I'm not into the whole emo bromance with Boone side plot so I generally drag Veronica around for exploring or Cass (when sarcasm is needed). Only bring in Boone when something absolutely positively needs to be utterly destroyed, overnight.

Boones more of an attack companion while arcade could be considered for a support role. Keep in mind however that Boone will not fight the NCR and will not side with the legion, while Arcade will fight the NCR but wont side with the legion.

He fairly useless against death claws and when he is meleeing , other than that his AP capability is beast, I often just stay still and enjoy the show.

(anymore awesome than this would be Garrus Vakarian IMO)

Ok then well I am doing the NCR quests now so I will be going to get him as a companion soon. I can't wait he better be as good as everyone says he is.

Get them both! You do want that Trophy/ Achievment, right? It all depends on your character, my guy is a sniper, so i use boone 24/7 along with Rex. But arcade is good if you wanted to make a scientist of some sort, or even engery weapons character.

OMG I love that quote. Especially because I can imagine Boone saying in that curt, clipped way of his, "better dead than red"...

Your comments are pretty spot on too, Boone is great for wilderness exploring because things have a habit of just... falling over, before you even NOTICE them even. On the other hand I find him somewhat boring.
Cass is vicious in close range too, with a good shotgun on her anyway.

Also, I don't like that boone kills things at such range I rarely get a hit in, it makes it hard to get achievements and perks for kills/cripples/ect. if I can't get a shot in edgewise. I think Boone slows down your personal advancement in that way.

Recruit them all at least once, and you'll unlock an achievement or trophy (xbox and ps3) not sure if there is a steam reward for this.

Give Arcade a gauss rifle and a pile of MFCs. He'll kill things just as well as Boone.

Eash companion has their role to play and are all good at what they do. Well I don't personally care for Lily much but that's me. Arcade is good with energy weapons and good for characters that need that healing bonus but if you pick everything off at a distance I'd rather have Boone. I just wish I could tell EDE not to attack at all. He always blows my stealth kills. I'll be lining up a nice sneak critical with my AMR and then I'll hear his stupid music. >_<

Boone is arguably the most powerful companion in the game but personally I prefer to use Cass who is better balanced as Boone makes the game far too easy and boring.

Ok guys well today I went from Arcade to Boone as the companion and he is too beast. Half the time I am walking through the wasteland and then I hear Boone shoot and I get some XP. And I dont even see anyone and he picks them off. Not to mention I can't even get a kill without him taking it. He is a monster I may just try him up against deathclaws to give him a challenge :celebration:

Why would you want a card-board cut-out when you can have someone with a personality?

Boone is a far better fighter, but Cass's companion perk is pretty useful. My character has pretty low END so the DT helps. They both have awesome perks though...

Boone was necessary to my survival pretty much, since I let him take care of nasty Cazadors and whatnot while I squealed and hid behind Rex or the nearest convenient boulder.

Arcade was a lot more fun to be around, though.
Boone just kind of stood around, always going, ".......", when he wasn't being a tease with his backstory. It was soo hard for me to figure out how to unlock his quest chain. :'(

Maybe its just me but I have not had much luck with Boone, I have lost count the amount of times he has ran off into the wilderness armed with his silly dagger completely ignoring the shiny Anti Matter Rifle I gave him.

And yes he is already set to ranged combat and he has plenty of ammo.

The only time boone went down was in the "beyond the beef" quest where you are attacked weaponless in the casino by two of the white glove guys.. that quest was a pain in the ass to..

I like the fact Boone's not constantly babbling away like the other companions. I tried Raul out for a bit but got so fed up of his banter I wound up firing him. I went back to Boone, who has never failed to live up to his name. I don't even need to worry about keeping him well-equipped; his infinite-ammo default sniper rifle has enough stopping power for most anything.

I gave Boone an anti-material rifle once. He got about 50 shots out of it and tossed it aside as companion weapons that you give them degrade, and they throw them away when they break. Good thing he said something about it so that I could look around for it.

But his special quest was certainly worth it. Honestly though, were it not for Wiki I wouldn't have been able to unlock the necessary history points to get Boone to start talking about his past.

Counting all Fallout games?
Marcus and Ian were pretty annoying with their player killing skills.
And the worst could very well be Myron.
