Skill dropped from 100 to 15

Post » Tue May 22, 2012 11:11 am

Hey guys, been loving skyrim so far. But today I encountered my first major issue today. I've gotten my two handed skill up to 100, but while I was going through my weapons today, I noted that my two handed weapons all had significantly lower damage values than they previously did. I checked out my skill tree, and instead of readinig out at 100 as it should, it says 15 in bold red letters. I did some googling and saw a couple people with similar issues, but leveling ended up bringing it back to where it should be. I've leveled up and it hasn't helped. Anyone have any idea what the problem could be? Or if not is there I way I can change it back to 100 via the console or anything like that? Thanks!

were you naughty and spent time in jail? Just I remember reading a hint that said something about losing skill if you do jail time. Not sure I might have been dreaming.

I considered that as well, but the only jail time I've served was for the quest no one escapes cidnha mine, and that was quite a while ago, before I even leveled up two handed all the way

Go visit a chapel, and pray at the shrine. See if that doesn't fix it.

that didnt work either. Ended up just doing player.setav twohanded 100 in the console to fix it.

Still strange though. No idea what could've caused it. Seems like it'd more likely a glitch than an in game punishment for something. Seems like it would have to be something major to set you back 85 points in the skill

That happened to me with Archery. I was at 100 and went down to 15. I was thinking that it was some type of display error, because I appeared to be doing the same damage with a bow, and had no negative active effects on at the time. I tried everything to get rid of it. Exiting the game, reloading, unequiping items, visiting shrines, etc. I finally gave up and just dealt with it since it didn't seem to have an actual effect on my damage. Then one day it was back to normal. No idea what made it correct itself.

Just another issue and more evidence of what a number of us have been discovering about the, let's call it Fuzzy Math, that appears to be implemented :)

Going over 100 in Enchantment (not sure how much over, might not be much), select an item, a gem (say Black Soul Gem for max power), select enchantment. Defaults to max damage, charges says 000. Start sliding the damage down, which should increase the charges, instead the charges decrease. Definitely not working as intended.

Similar problem here.

One-handed got to 90, now it's at 20 in red.

Game breaker for me.

That really svcks that you have to spend so much time leveling just to have to resort to the console like you were cheating or something, just cause of a bug.

I had this happen to me as well, since its happening to a lot us, I assume it is a bug and I have no faith that it will be fixed.

I've got the opposite problem...my health's been boosted by 10 points and is in the green. I have no idea why. Only magic item I'm wearing boosts magicka. No relevant active effects.

I drank a health boosting potion a few in-game days ago (temporarily adding 10 points to my health), though, which I think is the probable cause...something tells me that buffs/de-buffs are broken. The timer (say, from a poison) will run out, causing the effect to disappear from your active effects list, but occasionally the penalty/bonus won't be removed.

My guess is something--either a poison or a disease--damaged that skill of yours. You cured the disease or the poison wore off, but the penalty associated with it failed to remove itself. :nope:

My friend had this happen to him. All he needed to do was improve the skill again and it went back up to it's original state.

Not sure if it will work if the skill was 100 seeing as you shouldn't be able to improve it, but it is worth a shot.

Otherwise, the console command works.

Yep. And no diseases are changing it.

I guess I'm forced to use a console command if it's not fixed in the upcoming patch. :glare:

Inexplicably happened to me as well with my main weapon skill - two handed. Dropped to 15 from about 75 after a level up. Fortunately I had a save just about 30 minutes back and on that one it was normal.

Has any of you changed your race through console? That can screw up your skills.

Has anyone tried boosting your affected skill with a potion to see if that would help fix the issue?

My archery level dropped from 50 to 15.

There seems to be one sure fix: go to weapon trainer and buy one extra point in that skill. At least, it worked for me.

Unless you already have skill 100 ...

I had this happen to me with another skill (Archery, I believe) no idea what caused it but gaining the next rank for the skill (not levelling your character) fixed it.
Unfortunately, as you have 100 for Two Handed you can not increase the skill rank and therefore you'll need to use the console to fix it.

Using console:

player.setav twohanded 100
Hopefully that should fix it. If for some reason that does not work, try setting it to 99 and then 100 again.

Just in case you are worried, about it - using the console will not disable Steam Achievements.
