Skipping Christmas

Yeah pretty much this. It's nice to have everyone get together for the holidays for some fun too. Could do without most of the overplayed holiday music though.

Not for me - I love Christmas! I was raised atheist (and still am), so I've never really experienced the religious side at all. I went to a school where we never sang hymns and the Christmas plays were never really focusing on that aspect. I was just taught that even if you're stuck in a stinky barn and get crappy gifts (frankincense and myrrh? Come on), it's spending time with loved ones that really counts.

He also got some gold. I bet the other two wise men felt pretty stupid when Wise Man #3 ignored the spending limit and one-upped them there.

No but seriously I don't mind holiday music (dean martin and frank sinatra are awesome) just that it's way overplayed constantly 24/7.

Relatives. Hate relatives. Hate children. Hate sleeping on the couch to make room for relatives.

Relative and onion soup is good, by all accounts.

Agreed 100%. Most of the versions of the songs I linked, I love, but listening to tinny music blasted through a crappy PA system in shops for hours on end svcks.

Going to eat tomorrow, first at grandma's from mothers side, then at grandma from fathers side and then we'll eat for ourselves in the evening. And then we'll eat some more then next day. :D That's what xmas is for us, eat, relax, have fun. Absolutely nothing to do with anything historical or fictional.

Then lie like a python for days on end in a vein attempt to digest it all?

I celebrate Constantine naming his son Constans Emporer of Rome on the 25th of December

All Hail Caeser

Especially if it's by Cliff Richards

This is the only Christmas song I genuinely enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SaiR-rQny5U
Although I do admire Sinatras apparent lack of effort he puts into singing.

As an atheist, I don't celebrate or even acknowledge any of the religious side of it. I do give gifts, put up a tree and do the whole turkey dinner thing. As far as I'm concerned none of these things have anything to do with the Christian side. The tree originated from the original pagan celebration of Saturnalia, presents are awesome and I like turkey. That's good enough for me.

I was going to write something similar to this, but since EvilFish did it, I'll just quote him :D

No way will I ever skip Christmas. Ever since an early age, my parents, 7 siblings, and friends would have a HUGE Christmas feast. My parents are devout Christians (as am I), so we spent a healthy amount of the day celebrating the religious side.

Now, since I'm far from my family, I'll invite my friends over, go to church with my Girlfriend, open presents, and call it a day.

if you don't believe in God fine. but how dare you take the Christ out of my Christmas.

Il just leave that there. Also religion is already absent from it at this point, or atleast very minor. Capitalism is what its all about now. Besides, christmas isnt even the correct date. It was just changed to convert pagans, so its not even a christian holiday becuase its not the time Jesus was born.

I am atheist, dont care about christmas, I get free stuff, buy gifts for people. But would honestly rather not have any of it. Again nothing to do with religion, its just the alcoholism, gluttony, pointless and annoying lights, the annoying music. And the insistance I should be happy because its Christmas. Which has no meaning to me, or the ssholes who say that, and just get pissed.

I also hate how people write Xmas. Im not a grmmer nazi (did my typos give it away) but its just lazy to type xmas. Only acceptable if texting imo.

No way. Two free feasts and presents. But, then again, I do have to deal with my family for a week and listen to awful christmas music over and over and over...and over.

Every time I look a thread, Evilfish has said everything I wanted to. You sly bastard.

I don't skip Christmas but I don't celebrate it like most folks do. To me Christmas is just another Thanksgiving.

Why scratch out Christ from the satrt of Christmas, if you don't believe in the religious event just use xmas
Can't skip it, how else would I get to the 26th of December  Forever trapped on the 24th :ahhh:

Normal stuff, open my presents that get less and less each year, have the grandparents over, have family dinner with them - apart from my dads mum, thats just too much for us to handle on a day like that.

Indeed. Some people may find it offensive to cross out christ in christmas. It is called christmas whether your christian or not. The holiday is mult-cultural and multi-religious. It can be as much a holiday to an athiest as it is to a christian, just with different meanings obviously.
