Skyrim Compass

I use the compass but I agree that there should be an option to turn the compass off if you want to play the game that way.

200+ hours without compass. I use the map markers and figure my own way.

I also use the floating markers as they only show up when you are really close, this saves you from missing things in front of you and running in circles. You can still get lost.

I don't have a sneak indicator or crosshair. I only have a small dot when I'm crouching.

Thanks to ini tweaks and a small image file with a dot. If I was playing on a console, I would like to see these options on the menus.
My experience is exactly the same as yours, even the number of hours played.

I love playing Skyrim without a comapss. With no compass, I think Skyrim's HUD is the best HUD I've ever experienced in any game. I find that I play 90% of the time with no HUD at all. I see a HUD element mainly when I'm in combat. Then, when it's no longer needed, it disappears. When that compass is removed Skyrim's HUD is pure genius, as far as I'm concerned.

i hate the compass and think it should not have ever been introduced into TES. there is nothing inhearently wrong with it being an optional addition to the game but bethesda gives no alternative to using it, and now the quest log no longer exsists it is even harder to play without the compass.

You can edit this feature in ini and/or a mod, if you're on consoles you made the wrong choice and are missing out.

You don't get it. These features should be toggleable so everyone could decide if they want them or not.

Edit:
These features should be toggleable on/off:
- Enemy dots in Compass
- Nearby locations in Compass
- Quest arrows in Compass
- Quest markers above NPCs heads and on doors
- The whole Compass
- Crosshair
- Sneak Eye Indicator

That sort of thing I agree with. I certainly think the compass is a good idea - compasses have been around a long time, and are by no means "modern" technology - and it can be very hard to use the sun to find directions in the game, because shadows can be unreliable. But the compass having a built-in "radar" is a little silly to me. The crosshair I think is a good idea - it's there to compensate for the lack of binocular vision, essentially, and without it you'd have absolutely no way to aim a bow. But the sneak eye indicator should only show whether you're sneaking or not, and not whether the other guy has found you. Hell, you've got the music to indicate that anyway.

Actually, I find aiming without the crosshairs surprisingly easy. I just use the tip of the arrow as a guide. Now magic, on the other hand. That one is a bit more difficult.

Still bangin away at this huh?

The mod to fix the no directions given should be very easy.
"Go to where I pointed on your map."

I agree once inside the dungeon the quest marker makes no sense.Luckily I can turn it off once I arrive at my destination.

Well, I agree that for a lot of quests I think the quest marker is merely a convenience. Dude marks a spot on your map, and you go there. I can see why people might prefer to have to navigate there on their own, but frankly for a lot of places in the mountains you have to do that anyway. Knowing the grid coordinates of the location doesn't mean you don't still have to find a route to it.

But sure, the underground/indoor quest marker telling you exactly where to go in the mazes is a bit silly.

I too would like this to be an option. I like playing with the crosshair off, which luckily is togglable. However, I would like to play with the compass off and still be able to see my item clarification, health, magicka and stamina.

I mainly need the crosshairs for picking up small items. I want to loot one berry and not the whole platter or bucket or kettle. Aiming I could probably get a system down.I could even manage without the H/M/S bars. But the labels not showing up to identify objects, NPC names, doors, steal or free items....That keeps me from just turning the HUD completely off.

Who was the mental giant idea behind that decision? EVERY aspect of the HUD should have a toggle function at least the compass. Why pc got more advantages than consoles for HUD setting
