Skyrim Dlc As Good As Shivering Isles?

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 12:32 pm

Shivering Isles is what Oblivion should have been: IN A REALM OF OBLIVION!

But I do hope for a huge expansion like the Shivering Isles, I just want it to take place in or near Skyrim.

I also hope for little things to keep us happy while we wait for the big stuff. Weapons like spears and crossbows (which I didn't want at first, but playing as a Van Helsing-type character would be tons of fun), more spells like water walking and different things to conjure. I would probably buy something like more killcams if it was like a dollar. I don't care how small they are as long as they're cool and the price was good.

HE...said a lot of things didn't he?
Yes he did...and I would take anything he says with a grain of salt.

My two cents here, I want big fat Nord Mead Halls. I want barbarian, and un-civilized Nord Barbarian Villages, like the Skaal. Skyrim's are too civilized. Also more Pine Forest.

I just loved the gatekeeper, and sheogorath, and everything else. But the gatekeeper was just too much fun. This can't be beat no matter what

And what did he say that did not make it into the game? So far everything I have seen said in pre Skyrim video's have been included in the game. Sometimes I swear you people get Todd confused with Peter Molyneux
Really? Do you see an economy that you can affect for better or worse? Do you see an actual marriage function or just a tacked on function? Can you do whatever you want to do? I cant. Was the PC version truly playable and optimized? They said it was great before release. It was not. There are several other things but I am probably forgetting them.

I like the game and all but he did what tons of devs have done. Exaggeration and misinformation mixed with subtle hints that are supposed to garner a reaction from the fans even though they mean nothing. The guy is good at what he does. He is not some great guy that loves all the fans to death though. He is just a normal dev that happens to help make one of my favorites game series of all time.

I don't think marriage was ever advertised as being anything more than it was--honestly, I'm not sure what more it could be. The problem is with NPC depth, not the marriage feature. As far as the economies go, that was probably dropped at some point during development, since traces of it (like the interactive mills) are still in the game. Todd's problem is that the talks about features that are still in development, but I don't think his intention has ever been to mislead. They can't very well put out press releases saying "Anticipated feature cut from game!"

As far as the topic goes, I like Tribunal, Bloodmoon, and Shivering Isles much more than the original games. Bethesda seems to excel and making expansions, once the pressure of making the main game is off. Most of the best, most innovate features from the last games have been introduced in the expansions, and then abandoned again for the subsequent main game.

I want everything we asked for and didn't get to be included in the first expansion (regardless of what it is, although I have many ideas for it)

Spears (not personally, but nearly EVERYBODY else wants these)
Spell-Crafting
Enhanced Spells (Conjuration needs WAY more summoning abilites, Destruction needs WAY more effects)
Spells to get stronger as you get stronger
Mounted Combat
Everything in the GameJam video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOUCDIP9uV0
Marriage to anyone (because if it is to be implemented, it shouldn't be so limited)
Minotaurs, Goblins (in GameJam), and Ogres to return!
Retro-dialogue that isn't recycled ("YES! Tonilia, I know you are the lookout for the guild, now shut the hell up!" or "I happen to be the Harbinger, so no, assclown, I do not fetch the mead)

These are just thigns that come to mind

Bethesda does a heck of a job with expansions. The writers always seem to make up for the generally bland writing in the vanilla games with creative story lines and characters.

I personally thought that Shivering Isles blew both Oblivion and Skyrim out of the water. Knights of the Nine was too small to compare to the main games, but it was probably my favorite quest line between Oblivion and Skyrim.

Bloodmoon was an AMAZING expansion, and Tribunal was a pretty solid piece of work too. The Pitt and Point Lookout were high points for me when playing the FO3 GOTY.

Hopefully this trend continues with Skyrim's expansions.

Agree with you about si. Thought point lookout was a bit bland and empty though imo.

While I think SI was a lot better than the Oblivion MQ, I wasn`t that comfortable with it. I`ve never been a fan of doing something illogical in a different dimension... All that wierd stuff I had to do and that weirdo god beardy person who kept making weird jokes. He was a good character, but unsettling. Reminded me of a light version of Planescape Torment slightly.

I like to keep my feet on terra firma, not in other dimensions!

I enjoy Shivering Isles greatly, it's so alien and loaded with atmosphere. I re-installed Oblivion last year just to explore Dementia again. I hope they are willing to put a similar effort into Skyrim's expansion(s) to make them different, big and loaded.

Before they even think about launching DLC they need to each in attributes and RPG mechanics.

With Beth's writing, I doubt it. They could perform miracles like they did with the Pitt but I'm expecting better versions of Point Lookout. That wouldn't be terrible but not as good as Shivering Isles.

Yes I do see an economy, yes I can get married and so you think we are playing on a un-optimized version? You know how bad this game would of been if it was just a port? I know you think it is, but you should really invest some time into games that were purely ported. You will notice the difference like day and night.

FO3 DLC's were good, I thought. With the exception of Mothership Zeta.

I hope they come up with something just as good, if not better then the Shivering Isles...

A fairly recent article:

http://kotaku.com/5885983/bethesda-skyrim-dlc-will-feel-more-like-expansion-packs

I'm all for different types of content even the much maligned Horse Armor DLC of Oblivion, as long as it's reasonably priced. But yeah, one or more full content expansion DLCs are more than welcome!
