Skyrim expansion back to Daggerfall.

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 2:20 am

In a interview around E3 Todd Howard stated "I'd like to see the city of Daggerfall redone, or Sentinel." and went on with "Daggerfall should be on a giant bluff, overlooking the Iliac bay, and we just couldn't pull it off well then."

So do you think it's possible for Bethesda to add High rock as an expansion?

Do you think there would be any technical limitations by being able to just walk to another province?

What's your thoughts on this?

It would be awesome, but Daggerfall is on the other side of High Rock. Maybe Orsinium and the Wrothgarian Mountains though.

In skyrim, if you were to fall off a cliff leading to High Rock and hit the ground before you respawn you may notice wolves down there which howl as you hit the ground

Thought I would share this while I was doing a little research on High Rock

Also, you can make out a castle in the distance if you go to the high cliff west of Solitude

High Rock is huge, way too big for an expansion. Besides, it would just be another Cyrodiil, with its forests and castles.

I dont think it would be an expansion, i think it would be the next chapter. I can see an expansion taking place in a smaller, less populated place

Perhaps the map-view, depending on how it's limits have been coded. But Beth should be able to fix that.

Other than that there's not much limitation to how far you can expand the game-world. And Skyrim already seems to have much or all of the Tamriel landmass included anyhow, even though it's in a rough state. (The PC version allows you to rotate your map-view so you can look over the borders, and it allows you to remove the invisible borders so you can actually scout there.)

I have a theory that because the mass is already there they may have an expansion in the works to populate/render it

We know there is currently a restriction on entering Skyrim, but what about leaving it? If it's effectively cordoned off, then you could require sea travel or human smuggling to reach Daggerfall, which would allow it to be included without filling in all the other territory between.

Oh, yes. The Orsimer want their land back would be wonderful. Perfect excuse for a prolonged visit to the Ashpit, too.

And High Rock is one of the smaller provinces, which would make it a better candidate

At any rate, if Bethesda doesn't do it then the mod-community will surely jump on it once the Creation Kit is released.

I would also like to ask, does anyone know how long it would take to build an expansion this big?

I can see modders making a Daggerfall mod but definetly not Bethesda making a Daggerfall expansion.

Modding is nice and all but I want an expansion from Beth ya know? Modders have done incredable things for not only TES but countless other games..but the quality that only Beth could give just makes me excited to see there DLC.

Yeah. There are some very good modders around, but I would love to see Bethesda recreate High Rock how they originally envisioned it.

If there was a High Rock expansion, it'd certainly be in a different world space. So don't expect to walk from Skyrim to Daggerfall etc.

And Daggerfall doesn't honestly fit well with Skyrim's theme. It hasn't got that barbaric or downtrodden feel to it, you know.
If Bethesda were going to put a dlc anywhere in High Rock, it'd be Orsinium and the wrothgarian mountain range surrounding it.

Not only do they have a lot to work with there, but they also have a good link to Skyrim- the orc fortresses and in some ways the future of TES.
For if the rumours are true about Bethesda already putting copyright on the title "Hammerfell" then Orsinium could be a good taste of what is to come.

But in all honesty I think they'll move Dovahkiin to Solstheim for a dlc. It has werewolves, witches, dunmer house remnants and morrowind lore- all fan favourites.

Maybe this could make that expansion more conceivable?

There was a modding team thats started developing the rest of Morrowind after TES3, I think they are still at it now lol

Takes alot of time and effort for something this big

But expansions are usually the complete opposite of the vanilla game, like Bloodmoon or Shivering Isles.
