Skyrim for the Wii-U, Xbox 720?

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 8:59 am

"Xbox 720's raw graphics processing power is expected to be six times that of the Xbox 360" ... only 6 times? FFS...consoles are ruining gaming as an artform. Here I was hoping and praying the things would be at least formidable to current mid range computers but if this is the best to offer, throwing a 79$ video card (the lower-midrange 6670 no less) into already antiquated hardware? Well, I hope steam keeps PC only titles alive because anything tied to the consoles is going to see an ever increasing divide of performance between the two. PS3 owners think that the Skyrim fiasco has been bad? That's nothing.

*grumbles some more about consoles ruining the gaming industry*

Yah, after reading the above I agree and I doubt the next one will have any chance of it either at this rate.

PC games do have advantages over consoles especially is graphics, but the truth of the matter is PC's are money vacum's. They need to be upgraded or replaced cause pc games increase in spec demand as pc's become more powerful, Getting a pc that can handle skyrim for example cost's more then just buying a 360 and a copy of skyrim. Depending on your computer and what it needs upgrade wise you could easily spend 200 dollars... Not everyone has the money to upgrade their pc or replace them so they can play the latest pc games. Look at vanguard saga of hero's when it was released only the best of the best computers could run it smoothly with little too no trouble.

Console gaming at the end of the day is cheaper and easier on the wallet for a lot of people.

Wii-U... I know what I'll be thinking, weeeuuuuu this thing stinks! :yuck:

Sorry, but for me the Wii got old real fast and I've always been a Nintendo fan. The lack of a LAN port, DVD playback, and no good games except remakes made it less and less appealing over time. I've lost all confidence in Nintendo's ability to captivate me anymore.

I'll stick with ol' standby: the PC.

I do not want to troll but will the Xbox 720 have a higher frame rate than just 30 or even at least be 1080p.If not it is already outdated

I agree with you my wii just sits around doing nothing haven't played it in almost a year. You can get a usb LAN port for it that's what I did since I don't have a wireless router.

The chances of this game being ported to another platform at this point are the same as me winning Powerball.

If the 720 offers backwards compatibility, then you can play the game on that but that would be it.

YOU WON CCNA!!!! Ed McMahon is at your door with the super maxi ultra mega prize giveaway check...... LOL I just had to say it sorry, To be fair I didn't win either..... :)

nintendo these days is about gimmicks & kids games, i dont think the u will be much better. and why do people always think theyll call it 720? i think 360 was kind of a joke, since its a box.

its called x box circle. 720 probably wont be the next name

Hell! lets hope ol microshaft make it a heavy duty six core with atleast 8 gig qaud channel ram, that's the only way their product is going to last another 4 years.just ask any of the guys here who have a heavy rig and i'm sure they'll agree.

It's probaly a qaud close to a i5 2500 with 4 gig 1066 ddr3 triple.i left the 360 behind in disgust at that company for deliberately stagnating game development, buggers!

I'll go get one though when it comes out.

I like skyrim, theres room for massive improvement from the community,i just wish the open spaces in the game were wider and there were more sunny clear days.

Anyone here who would like to see armour that takes damage and is visible during said damaging? destructable armour that takes fixing like in oblivion? Bits and pieces flying off you as you take a greatsword hit eventually falling off? it would make the game a hell of a lot more interesting than it is at the moment.

If Bethesda decides not to neglect us PC users and release an 'enhanced' version with much higher resolution textures, I am up for it. Otherwise, move on and release some pretty good and beefy expansions.

The Wii U controller would be perfectly suited for a game like Skyrim. Book contents could be shown on the controller screen as well as UI elements and inventory management. The screen could be used for custom hotkeys and such too.

I find it puzzling some think it's so odd to consider it for the Wii U when the Wii U's controller is a traditional controller with the addition of a touch screen.

I also find it puzzling some think it will be less powerful than the Xbox 360 and PS3 based on a single console: The Wii, especially considering several developers have confirmed it is at the very least on par with them, with some claiming it is more powerful. There's no concrete information yet but it's very likely it will be at least moderately more powerful than the PS3/Xbox 360.

Gamecube: More powerful than the PS2, less than Xbox
N64: More powerful than PS1
SNES: On par with the competition
I'm not listing the NES because it did not have serious competition at first and it absolutely dominated its era.

It would be a mistake to underestimate Nintendo. Nintendo has done many things I disagree with, but it is clearly extremely successful at what it does. It helped revive the video game industry after it crashed and it is still around and even when they were not in the lead they were still profitable.

As far as an Xbox port goes I'm not so sure about that. Since the Xbox versions of these games do share many things with the PC versions, I'm inclined to agree that Bethesda could offer a patch to allow higher settings on the Xbox successor. I very highly doubt they'd make another version for it though.

I also find it puzzling that someone acted as if you're as likely to win the lottery as Skyrim is likely to be released for the Wii U. Do not forget that the PS3 version of Oblivion was released significantly later than the game's debut.

I would have to guess "not a chance", to either. However, as someone mentioned, there's the posibility of backwards compatibility for the 360.

Finally! Then the only thing PC players can brag about will be the mods.

Not that I mind; if I started making mods I would never stop and I'd go insane :{D~

Not too likely. I run at higher than 1080p and playing games with a keyboard+mouse just feels better than a controller. That last part is totally a preference thing, though. :)

Bethesda are probably already working on the next big elder scrolls game for the next gen xbox. I keep hearing that the new xbox will be able to run games that look visually as good as the film avatar and they will be able to have ncp's with that will have far more depth to them than they do now.

You should save this quote for youself to look at in a few years. Consider this: The graphics of today's games would be the equivilant of 'most impressive pre-rendered jobs' of a few years ago. Rendering abilities constantly march forward and yes sorry but Fern Gully 2011's graphics will be surpassed by real-time rendering methods and hardware.

It's already been said this is impossible, but I should add current machines still can't render the best pre-rendered stuff from almost 20 years ago. I have yet to see a PC that could render Toy Story in real time, and it came out in 1995. To do something that looks like a modern film (keep in mind that films have extremely high resolution) is going to be far enough in the future that your kids will be excited to see it released.

This is all moot, anyway. BGS doesn't like doing remakes of old things. When we get a TES game for new consoles it will be a new game. That will be a good thing; by that point we'll all be eager to have a new game. :D

Yea, and seeing as how my current computer is much more powerful than the new xbox is rumored to be...
http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/01/24/xbox-720-will-be-six-times-as-powerful-as-current-gen

Only 6 times as powerfull as a 360? You would think that a console coming out in a year or maybe 2 would be at LEAST as good a mid range pc from early 2011.

The Wii-U prototype tech spec breakdown put's it at roughly 50% more powerful than Xbox 360/PS3, i doubt Skyrim would make an appearance on that console personally.

As for the 720, well that's highly likely to be backwards-comp with 360, i highly doubt it would be released this year, maybe an announcement at E3, as Halo 4 is expected in Fall 2012 (i.e september a.k.a - Halo-month!) so M$ will not want to take any hype away from it.

The problem is even the new consoles must be affordable to attract masses of people so they can't make a console that would beat average computers graphics wise.

Just looked at the 6670's specs and it looks like it's capable of 3D gaming, so maybe that's gonna be the next thing on consoles...

I don't think they'd make a new version of Skyrim for the 720. By the time it is released it would be pretty pointless, and it almost certainly will let you play the current version on it, anyway.

The Wii-U? Not a chance. It won't be as powerful as the PS3, and we all know how much trouble Bethesda have had trying to get Skyrim running comfortably there.

Nintendo don't make real consoles anymore. They make casual gaming platforms. They know they can no longer compete with Sony and Microsoft in tems of real gaming, but know full well that they can make a killing producing products for people who normally wouldn't buy into videogames.

They do gimmick very well. They won't be changing back any time soon.

actually for pcs u need to upgrade maybe every 2 or 3 years...........which i know we dotn like spending money BUT if we expect games to keep getting better technology wise..then its a sacrifise to keep the ball rolling. If u look back at the advancement of the pc games, true advancements u see the drop and the hangback when they stop releasing games for the pc first then tried to convert to console later and started trying to make games pretty much the same looking on new gen systems and 5 year old systems. 5 years alot of improvements have been made with the pcs, drastic changes BUT because the system is still older than the advancements the newer games CANT take advantage of that. So basically yes its a money vacuum but so is all technology, look at smart phones and what not. technology is always improving only if its got the incitive "cash" too. By prolonging and trying to get all u can outta consoles, its is crippling when the advancements ur making are baby steps when the pc is making leaps because are there to put the money into it.

Not unless those consoles allow 360 games to play on them.
Skyrim is out for the Wii? Or this that just speculation?

I'm fairly confident when I say that you have absolutely no facts to back up such a statement. In fact, reports on the Wii U's specs point to the console being more powerful than the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 by a good amount.

Also, spare us the drivel about what "real" gaming is. The Wii had a fantastic library of "core" games. About all it does lack are Western RPGs and first/third-person shooters, neither of which are any more "real" than platformers, JRPGs, strategy RPGs, etc.

Spoiler
Xenoblade Chronicles
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
The Last Story
Muramasa: The Demon Blade
Epic Mickey
Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom
Sin & Punishment: Star Successor
Metroid: Other M
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Kirby's Epic Yarn
Okami
Monster Hunter Tri
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Donkey Kong Country Returns
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories
Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles
Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles
Sonic Colors

A number of those offering more depth and more challenging gameplay than many of the "real" games found on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Not your kinds of games? That's fine, but do everyone a favor and kill the holier-than-thou attitude.
