Skyrim giving me a headache

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 10:20 am

Hello folks.

I can't seem to play Skyrim without getting a really bad headache. I haven't had this problem with any other game except Dead Island, and I fixed that by changing the FOV (which I had to do through modding as there was no option at the time).
Skyrim's graphics settings are max and the game looks and runs great. But this headache makes it difficult to play. Is there any way to change the FOV? I had a look but couldn't find anything.

Cheers.

press ~ to open the console, type fov 85, for example where 85 is the FOV angle you want to use

Thanks, I didn't even think about trying the console. I'll test it now.

EDIT: Changed the FOV to 90 and it is much better!

Changing any options in the console(actually it's being reported the same for the .ini files) will disable achievements...

Another slap in the face from Bethesda to the PC gaming crowd...

And I agree I get severe motion sickness from these "console ports" default FoV...

Do you have to re-enable the change of FoV every time you boot the game up? If not I'll just make a character to just change the FoV then start my real one...

If you're worried about achievements, or having to re-do your FOV every time you play, there is another way to do it. See this post: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1256595-consolidated-potential-fix-thread-co-authordesi/

That's actually a Steam issue I believe. And so what? Just save, exit the game, start it up again, and you're golden.

Wow this fov thing made it so much better, maybe that's the reason I have this headache right now after playing a couple hours. I'll wait a good 20min and then get back into it and hope it won't be as tiring.

It's really tiring to play when you're dual wielding two axes and they take like 30% of the screen.

I remember getting motion sickness/headaches from playing Half Life 2 when it first came out, and I found that taking Dramamine helped out tremendously. Apparently, the textures and the way the view port was programmed had a lot to do with it.

FoV and Headbobbing does it...

Console ported games come with a default FoV people would expect sitting far back from a TV with a controller, not sitting up close to a monitor...

The fact that companies know about this ever since the BioShock fiasco and still let it slip though astounds me... FoV in any PC game should have a slider imbedded in the menu, even if the game is a [censored] console port.

You shouldn't need to take motion sickness medicine to play a video game... Shame on Bethesda for this even if they "half-assed" this console port of a game, that's something you need to learn from and actually improve.

Indeed.

Also I can confirm that changing the FOV via the console and then restarting the game will keep the FOV (providing that you saved), and won't disable achievements (I got one, anyway).

Do achievements get uploaded somewhere? Or are they just "fluff" for the PC version?

Um, who really cares about achievements?

Why do you think they bothered to put them in? Someone must care about them. Try to think next time.

are you spending 8 hours a day doing nothing but moaning? seriously you need to move on to a new game/hobby before the stress makes you ill , games are meant to be fun . If you aint having fun in this game you need a new hobby.

Nobody really cares about Steam achievements, they were added in as an afterthought with a client update, and since there is no overall 'gamerscore' where your achievement points accumulate, there isn't any value or worth in them, in a lot of gamers opinion.
