Is Skyrim going to be buggy?

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 9:03 am

Even CPUs have bugs. Expecting bug free software is like believing in fairies. Fairies may exist somewhere, but you an I will never see them.

A game this big is bound to be buggy.

If recent Bethesda titles are anything to go by, this game is going to be horrible at launch.

Still, nothing will be as bad as Brink. It's still as good as unplayable on consoles.

It should be a bit buggy at first but I don't thin it would be game breaking like Fallout: NV though, they did spend 3 years making this game.

I did not play FNV on release so i think they fixed lots of bugs before i played it. Because i had just a few bugs, but that is expected with such big games. And it was made by Obsidian and they always have way more buggy games on release than Bethesda. I always wait half a year until I buy their games.
I have yet to play such a massive game like Skyrim or Fallout NV without any bugs. But have never encountered very serious bugs. But if there are some serious bugs in the game, they will probably fix it fast, or some genius modder will fix it. I found Fallout 3 to be very polished when it was relaesed, just minor bugs here and there, nothing serious. What worries me the most is driver issues, Nvidia and AMD has been horrible with optimizing drivers lately.

I'm sure there are at least some bugs - as long as they're patched in a timely manner, I don't care. One of my CS professors back at university described bug hunting like this: You're never able to ensure there aren't any bugs, once the code reaches a specific complexity. All you can do is ensuring specific possible bugs or mistakes don't happen the way you can think of.

Consider
-Size of the game
-The fact that you still can't play Oblivion bugfree without the unofficial bugfix patch made by modders
-There were quest fixes in the day 0, 1.1 patch

I would expect at a minimum you can break quest progression by doing things outside of the box.

The goodnews, there is a dedicated bunch of modders who will eventually fix the game up.

Likely to have some bugs hopefully none which are "game wrecking".
New vegas did have bugs, I didnt get the worst but the guards in vegas attacked me at some point took a while to sort out.
NV was made by obsidian, and I hated it compared to fallout 3, never even finished,

I never had any of these, and i do belive loads of others can say the same. It makes me question the hardware tbh.

And I know plenty of people who have had game breaking glitches. Just because it never happened to you doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Get your head out of your ass.

What's the game engine like? Will it be polished?

Because Fallout New Vegas was unbearable to play, lost over 30 hours of progress for a £40 game.
I am one of the few that look in awe as I had no issues with NV at all.... (Other than the poor area performance optimization)

They have already announced that there is a day 1 patch for Skyrim. So thats a fantastic sign. The game isn't even out yet and they are already patching the gold version. :D

I never found a single bug in my 150 hours of New Vegas. With buggy eyes, comes buggy games, i dont know. But if you nitpick, it sure as hell will seem less perfect.

Not being a jerk but you must be blind then i lost like 60ish hours of gameplay in that game because of all of the patches ... Patches fixing patches glitches out the wazoo its like they didnt even test it so very frustrating but hey that was obsidian not bethesda im shure there will be a few but hey its a videogame they all have a their fair share.

I dont think I've ever, ever, ever, ever played a game that was NOT buggy. Ever.

Open-world games are at times hard to be rid of glitches and bugs, they just have so many variables.

I've played New vegas, and there were'nt any bugs that broke the game, and I didn't even update it.

Maybe your Xbox is just misfunctioning? I've never had friends have big problems with NV

Skyrim will be the first game to use the new game engine, so very few people will know how polished it really is at this point.

Blizzard games have glitches but they have workers working round the clock to fix them and most of thier newest games feature in-game bug reports.

Being "Blind" has nothing to do with it. I'm in the same boat. A lot of people didn't have any issues with New Vegas. Others weren't so lucky.

I did, but not too many, and certainly nothing game breaking. Skyrim will have bugs, because no game is perfect.

Pong was released bug free. It's been downhill ever since. :D

It will be buggy but I imagine it will have no major bugs. I hope bug crushing not DLCs is their number one priority right now

No, it won't be too buggy, maybe just a couple, Beth did three months of just Bug-Testing because of their past rep.
