I think you mean that certain gameplay mechanics of fallout/oblivion influenced eachother. Other than that, I see no similarities between the two games.

lol this thread of conversation could go back to tabletop rpg's, they are all similar because they are all the same genre and people expect the same things from the same genre of game. fps's are first person shooters, you wouldnt go to one and find a third person strategy game. so there are similarities between rpgs

It does seem to have a strong Fallout-ish feel about it. Personally, I would've preferred it if they left the similarities at level-scaling.

I liked the leveling up and the scaling system way better in FO3 than Oblivion. I had more fun with Oblivion but I thought FO3 was built better. So I'm happy

Yeah they have taken things that they thought worked well in Fallout (like perks for example) but I love Fallout and completely trust Bethesda's vision so I'm fine with it.

I think you're wrong. "Heavily influenced" sounds like a bit of a hyperbole to me. Then again, each Bethesda title is influenced by the last and influences the next one, so why should anyone be upset?

The carrying over of game mechanics is what makes Bethesda games Bethesda games. I'd rather their games be influenced by improved traits from one another than some outside source or something new altogether that doesn't work nearly as well.

Skyrim's engine is based on Fallout 3's engine. Fallout 3's engine was based on Oblivion's.
