Skyrim or kingdom of amalur?

Eh. As much as I really didn't like a lot about Skyrim, I would say that I had more fun playing it.

KoA definitely has better writing and content. The main story and many of the factions, I feel, have far better questlines. While a lot of the side content was dull, there were a number of quests that were pretty worthwhile. But yes, most of the random quests were pretty dull, though I felt that most of Skyrim's main content was lackluster, so . . .

KoA's character development is a lot better as well.

Combat is pretty much depends on the player. Both games offer enough variance to offer different feeling playthroughs, maybe KoA a little more so.

The only real issue I had with KoA was that the world didn't svck me in. KoA has a decent story and a nice looking world, but I never felt I was really part of the world. With Skyrim, the actual content never amounted to too much, but the world was interesting in itself to experience. Overall, Skyrim is just more engaging, even if KoA bests it in a lot of areas.

One suggestion if you *do* go with KoA..... only take enough Smithing that you can repair your gear better (with repair kits). Don't max out Smithing to make your own gear. Why? Because there's all sorts of loot - between random-prefix&suffix stuff, uniques, and set items - and because I had high-level smithing and fancy Sagecrafted gems to make them with, I ended up using very little of the loot I found. My crafted stuff was just better. Which means that my gear was almost all "generic crafted" look, instead of trying all the different models they made for the "good" loot drops.

(But you still want some Smithing, just so you don't use as many repair kits. Which you do want to use - repair costs at high level get stupidly expensive.)

How many points would you recommend as I already have 3 in smithing?

KoA is more fun. Skyrim is more "immersive" (whatever that means).

For exploration, Skyrim.
For combat action, KoA.

I haven't played a second character much yet, so..... dunno? Do you wish your repair kits did more? Or are they doing enough?

Sorry I can't say something more useful.

edit: hmm, thinking more about it.... if one isn't using Smithing to make gear, that means you've got more stuff to sell (between the parts you find, and selling gear instead of breaking it down for parts). Which means more $$$ available to pay for repairs in a shop. I just couldn't bear to spend gold on repairs after the Arena quests gave me two repair costs of 160k and 190k. Even if I could afford it. :D
