Skyrim pc mods as dlc for consoles

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 8:28 pm

Does anyone know or have any info about wether or not bethesda can take pc mods for skyrim and make them into dlc for consoles.
If this was possible it would be epic for console gamers like me.

so let me get this straight, you want something you could get for free on PC, and have to pay for it on console

sounds legit

could be free if Bethesda wanted it to be ,but if the mod was really worth it i would pay a reasonable amount say $3-7 or $10 depending on the actual amount of content in the mod set as dlc for consoles

Strictly speaking, yes, they CAN do this because the EULA for the CS and GECK allows them to. Chances are they won't though because it has to go through Microsoft certification and user generated content is unlikely to get past that. Plus, it would surely anger the community if this happened and I doubt even Bethesda wants to deal with that kind of negative publicity.

would it anger the community if bethesda was to buy the mod from the creator, edit thier own way and then put it through microsoft certification as thier own product, and with every download the mod creator get a cut

Great idea, it would be nice if Bethesda did pay occasionally pay modders to use their work. It would certainly encourage even more quality modding (a little competition isn't a bad thing), and provide people with an excellent opportunity to get into the market. Maybe not in the way the OP suggested with DLCs but I think bethesda should encourage people, and reward the best. After SKyrim sales, they must have the money to invest a little. ANyway it would be nice to see.

turning mods into dlc would kind of be like what halo reach has done with the integration of community made maps into the ganes matchmaking, this idea is pretty much the same but is just using community made mods(community maps) as dlc for console gamers
and paying modders for thier work can creat a path for them into the gaming industry if thier work is good enough

I just spent over 24 hours downloading and installing mods for Oblivion. In that time frame I had to reinstall the entire game several times because I broke it.
Now I have everything in working order and Oblivion GOTY Deluxe folder have grown from 6gb to 12gb.

Mods on consoles? Skyrim is not build with mods on consoles in mind.

first of all they would have to get permission from the modder which is unlikely, second its not good for business to give away free stuff e.g. the reason Bethesda hasn't kept their promise and released the Creation Kit on 11/11/11 is because they want PC gamers to buy the DLC and not be too busy with mods

It wouldn't have to be all mods, just the one which create enough of a good game changing experience as say better user interface or a fix for something the community wants or just added content the makers didn't have time to address
Modders could say add in an actual store which players have to actually stock with their extra items or pay to get stock into the store, (this would be the store your in game wife runs and would actually be a visible storefront you could visit) this mod would create a greater player immersion into the game and could be made as dlc for consoles as a $2 purchase modder taking a 10-30 cent cut of downloads while bethesda keeps rest ( win for both sides )

Now that's just silly, The CK will be out waaay before any DLC, the way it has been since Oblivion. They also didn't promise to release the CK on 11.11.11

Except they never promised the CK on launch day - it's widely known that they said it would be shortly after launch day. Now I gather in internet terms, this means it should have been 2 hours after launch, but in business terms "shortly" could be as long as an entire fiscal quarter.

COULD they do it? Yes. It's possible with the right keys to encrypt an .esp and the assets it requires as DLC for a console, and the console will recognize it as DLC so long as it is signed properly. People have loaded mods into Morrowind and Oblivion on their consoles and probably the Fallout games as well.

WOULD they? No. It's possible, but they won't because they would have to charge for it on the 360 Marketplace and that would likely be bad for PR, charging for the work of others. Most mods wouldn't even be particularly good to 'port' to consoles in the first place, as most would put strain on a console (by including assets with high-end PC rigs in mind).

Why do you have this posted on both general discussions and mod discussions? Isn't one thread enough about this idea that is never going to happen?

Just wanted to know what others thought and thought that with two threads i'd be able to see more comments about the idea and I also wanted to get this topic more views so that maybe something could happen as it is the only problem i have with the console versions as i do not want to mod my xbox to get the mods as i may be banned if i play online

Do a search about the same topic in the Oblivion mods forum and you'll find dozens of threads asking the same thing. There you'll also find any answers you might need.

All I know is you can only "mod" your xbox to play pirates, but not PC mods. :sadvaultboy:

People are forgetting games for consoles are designed to push visuals to the limit while maintaining the frame rate to the best possible number.
Add 20 mods and Skyrim would be completely unplayable because the console is being tasked more than it was originally supposed to.

Never going to happen.

This question has been asked since the days of Morrowind and the answer has always been and most likely always will be: No.

I would really like a straight yes or no answer from the developers with some details as to why it can't happen, no more of this maybe or considering stuff, so that I can stop hopeing for something that may or may not happen

Search about the same topic in the Oblivion Forums, Fallout 3 Forums, and Fallout: New Vegas Forums and you'll find a dozen threads asking the same thing, ;)
