Skyrim on Next gens

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 1:49 pm

I was wondering, seeing as though the next Elder scrolls will come out in around four years and the next gens are being touted for a 2013 release, will Skyrim be ported to the Xbox 720 or the PS4 Orbis? Thoughts anyone?

No, but if the present generation is any indication, you should be able to play your current copy of Skyrim on your next console.

Higher res textures and assets would greatly improve the experience when playing at 2k or 4k resolution.

i doubt they'll port it in that sense, however, if backward compatible, its possible that it may perform slightly better.

And still what would be the point of that? Just implement such in the new game built entirely for the next gen.

Although there is question if all next gen console will even have backward capabilities right now PS4 is still in question and Microsoft really does not want to use Blu ray because that is Sony's department and don't want to pay their competitor to make their games they may go away from disks altogether.

This is bethesda and even though they have made questionable choices they can't just flip the switch however since the PC counterpart already has HD and actual true 1080p capability it could come in a patch but even then problems will arise from older consoles owners "O why cant we have such!!!"

I don't think it's beyond imagining that Skyrim will be released with higher res textures for the next gen. As was mentioned, PC already has the better textures, wouldn't exactly be a lot of work to patch next gen console versions with them too.

they made it 360 compatible

but we'll have to see if skyrim survives long enough for the next generation consoles

i dont think it will still be viable by that time

sure morrowind lasted long, but skyrim doesnt compare to it

Thanks for the input guys. It would be interesting to see if they could make a compatible version with graphics and fps more in line with the PCs. It is a problem no doubt that many manufacturers face as they release games so close to the end of the current consoles life cycle. This is the first game that Bethesda has released near the end of a consoles life and not at it's beginning, so who knows what will happen.

the best they could do is release a patch on the next gen, when you put skyrim in that does all or some of these things

I think the real question you should be asking is: What will TES:VI look like?

I hope you mean the PC graphics. Apparently the gpu will be a couple of generations behind the pc, but the gap won't be anwyhere near as big as it is now.

I doubt they will as there is evidence to indicate that the main (perhaps only) way of playing games will be downloading them straight to the hard drive.

what i think, is that is what they would like to make you think. it's why it's such a hot-button issue. nothing has been set in stone. those who make money off video games may want it. but, if the buyers (us) say HELL NO. then, that's that.

we dictate sales.

What if the next gens only play games that are downloaded straight to the hard drive as is possibly going to happen. It means the companies can cut out the middleman (game stores) and deliver straight to the customer whilst making more profit.

The problem is that the gamer community is so large and we are in are in a consumerist age where everyone wants everything straight away that enabling all games downloadable is a popular idea.

'what if'??

that's EXACTLY what they're going to try and do. with microsoft's, etc. backing.

i won't buy. and, that's fact.

again, they are setting you up to think that THAT possibility is a given and set in stone.

I'd like to see FREE updates offered for backwards compatible games... Call it "Enhanced Backwards Compatibility" or EBC if you will. A simple graphics overhaul to optimize textures and effects could be achieved with a fairly minimal cost investment. A game like Skyrim, which has a very long shelf life is a prefect candidate for something like this.

They SHOULD do it because it would soften the blow to early adopters that usually have a very poor selection of titles to choose from at launch.

They SHOULD do it because it would continue to drive software sales of "last-gen" games well into the next console cycle.

They WONT do it because it would eat into new-gen software sales.

They WONT do it because they'd rather charge $20-$40 for a "remastered" version of "last-gen" games - like they did with Halo Anniversary Edition.

I can easily envision a next-gen Skyrim GOTY pack with updated graphics and all the expansion packs included... Expect a full price tag though.

i didnt mean pc graphics even, that would be nice, but 360 battlfield like graphics (as long as everything is HD) in a TES setting i beleive would be acceptable if the scale of the world and content in skyrim is comparable

They are also talking about removing the ability to use preowned games. I would not be surprised if Microsoft did this because it allows them to make more money. However, there would be opposition from retail stores because without preowned and hard copies of games they would collapse.

i don't think so. unless, 3-d or something actually revolutionary comes about in the next gen.

the difference between the original halo and the remix is freakin HUGE.

if the next generation of consoles brings in all these added new rules, regulations and trends, i'm done. cya.

edit: no used/pre-owned games means bye-bye, as well.
