skyrim D&D

Post » Wed Jan 23, 2013 6:55 am

it would be a rare thing to find that patience in this generation, i agree. but out of the people who rather play D&D than video games, me being one of them, i dont think they would find it too difficult.

I was planing on some questing in the land of Skyrim but you have woken a VERY old itch.... Now I have to go see if I even still have my D&D gear (and a nerd buddy willing to play) :D

The Elder Scrolls actually started out as a fanmade D&D world..
That's pretty neat. I was actually surprised by how much character creation in Arena resembled Baldur's Gate, NWN, etc.

I still don't quite understand what OP means... like pencil and paper DnD set in Skyrim? Or a game Skyrim itself with DnD rules like Baldur's Gate?

The closest thing to D&D that I've done on Skyrim was "roll" a blackguard type character. Anyone old enough to get the "roll" reference?

Sadly, I think when most people say they 'roll' a new character they don't even know what they are referencing. I've heard people throw the term around alot in games like WoW where starting a new character has nothing to do with a roll.
I'm guilty of continuously re-rolling my character in Baldur's Gate just to get perfect stats... Yeah I was young and dumb lol. Which reminds me that Steam has a revamped edition of BG on sale atm.

Are we talking about applying DnD mechanics to Skyrim or are we talking about creating Skyrim like characters with TES lore in a DnD game?

The second seems very easy to do. The first... why would you want to? And if you do... just play Morrowind.

Well I'm with the guy who liked D&D better, heck bump E/S and contract w/FORGOTTEN REALMS and you'll have more beasts endless stories and modules/adventures that would just need convergence to software.

NOW that would be awesome !

How is it that almost nobody in this thread knows what "D&D" or "DnD" stands for?

I was thinking the same thing lol

Haha. I've also caught myself re-rolling in Baldur's Gate. Love that game.

Glad there others on this forum who understand a true "roll."

I sure do miss all night D&D sessions.

Also, I will wake up at midnight, connect to the BBS, and do my game turn before you and take all your cities.

Wow. Mods deleted my comment for no apparent reason. They found my response to you as offensive....which it wasn't. I merely adressed you on the same ground as a good colleague.
And I wouldn't be me If I didn't adress this.

To the mods:

1st - the word bastard in that context was quite friendly. Like in "that lucky bastard" it's non-vulgar. Get down from your high moral pedestals to us fragile forum dweller-peasants. Look http://www.thefreedictionary.com/bastard on the second definition. Hell, I will even write this down: 2.Informal, often humorous or affectionate a person
2nd - Nope. There is no excuse. Skyrim is 18+ and so should be this forum.

The Elder Scrolls evolved from a group at Bethesda's DnD Campaign, so it's not like it's entirely impossible, just switch some names around.

My last campaign died two years ago in a blaze of fire on account of players whining that their refusing a quest came with a consequence, so, can't say I have.

Plus, I prefer running games in settings of my own creation. Relying on premade modules is good, but you're not a true DM until you've spent hours constructing you're own setting.

Just a little background. I played a lot of P&P D&D back in the late 70's and early 80's. Played the Gold Box D&D games. Played BG 1&2 to death.

Honestly I think I like the TES skill system better, or at least I did until Skyrim removed classes and forced us to NOT role-play to max a character out.

Anyway I still borrow from D&D even now. I will create a Paladin or Barbarian or Arcane Archer, etc. and play them basically as if they were under the D&D rules. Some of my most interesting characters really.

If you're doing silent d20 rolls in your head or actually rolling on a table nearby before doing anything, I will both digitally slap you, and kiss you. Tongue, no tongue, your choice.

Alas due to real life, mine are but decoration these days with the exception of the odd game of that Marvel pen and paper that came out in '11.

I guess they're some. I was a AD&D/FOROTTEN REALMS guy myself

See, I was a Forgotten Realms, Ravenloft, and Dark Sun setting kind of guy. From there I migrated to the White Wolf games (Vampire: the Masquerade, Werewofl: the Apocaplypse, Vampire: the Requiem, etc.). R.I.P. White Wolf game studios... you will always be fondly remembered. :(
