sleeping out in open should be risky

You should be able to set up traps and the sorts around you camp. So for example trip wires that would activate a shotgun or bear traps things like that.

Like say someone can do a Mr Sandman on you while you are asleep. Unless you have a Light Sleeper perk and can wake up to defend yoursef. The only safe place to sleep would be your own house after you lock the door. Or have a companion guard you while you take turns sleeping.

What does the light sleeper perk do?

If we strike up a bad relationship with somebody at a settlement, and we choose to stay the night, that person should be able to attept murder on us while we sleep.

That. And perhaps a wobbly stance and momentarily lowered Strength stat, which wouldnt mean much, but perhaps you just couldn't wield that heavier weapon. Because I seem to be deprived of energy as soon as I am awaken abruptly.

You should also be wearing pajamas. For a good laugh.

(Naughty Nightwear!)

@MiamiThrice: I think it's one he just made up for an example. As in your a light sleeper, so that you can have more time to react when enemies wake you up.

Might be cool, but it could also get really really annoying for someone that gets attacked multiple times in a row.

The point is that the attack would be dangerous enough that maybe you'd think about getting to safety rather than resting in the middle of a deathclaw cavern.

Sure thing. That way, sleeping in the wilds or in a location where enemies are still living there (Like in the middle of a raider base) should always have its risks.

I'm currently using a Fallout 3 mod that does this, but only in the wilderness areas. It makes me want to make sure I'm inside a city's safety when it's getting dark, or that I'll be well prepared if an encounter should arise.

If it's not in New Vegas, porting the Fallout 3 mod into New Vegas should be easily done if the scripting functions used are the same. If the author agrees of course.

I really think that this combined with hardcoe mode (sleep necessary) would be cool. Do you sleep out in the wild and risk being attacked, or do you try to get to shelter at the cost of getting fatigued and possibly running into more enemies on the way?

I think being interupted by an enemy/enemies would be inconvenient enough to make resting outdoors less attractive. Lets not forget if you are resting its probably because either you need sleep or you need health, both of which should affect your chances of beating whatever enemy comes across you while you were sleeping.

I think its a good idea to have Perception decide how close the enemy/enemies get before you wake up 1 perception = face to face, 10 perception = 10-15meters.

I don't think having things stolen while you are sleeping is a good idea unless you can recover them in some way, perhaps the theif accidently leaves a clue as to where they are headed? either that or after having something stolen you wake up with the option to chase the thief as they run away.

You could even combine the outdoorsman skill and the stealth skill into the situation, Outdoorsman skill would give a bonus to your chance to be interupted based on selecting the most likely places you won't be discovered by animals such as hiding your scent trace. Stealth could be a way of blending into the terrain so you go undetected unless the enemy stumbles over you they might think you're a rock or something.

I think that also more nasty critters should show up when it gets dark and you have to make a fire, kinda like that scene from avatar where he's in the forest, or else some army of trogs will eat you.But when your sleeping your fire can go out resulting in you waking up from trog/ghoul/deathclaw invasion. Maybe the best course of action is RUN!!!! :bolt: Sometimes you might wanna reach for that shotgun. Or maybe a fire also attracts certain creatures so your never safe... :(

Stuff can be stolen during the night, but if you pick the light sleeper perk you hear them leave and you chase them down to get your stuff. Anything can be stolen from you so this would be a nice perk.

Good idea.

We should also have to go to the bathroom regularly.

...and make sure we eat plenty of fiber, but not too much or we'll have to even it out with rhubarb to avoid constipation.

...and make sure we don't drink any milk, because we're probably lactose intolerant.

...and make sure we don't get our socks wet, because that would really svck.

...and make sure we wash our clothes at regular intervals, or we'll be shunned by the community.

...and make sure to shave, brush our teeth and clip our toenails regularly.

Seriously, get a grip! It's a game, at some point the fun of it has to triumph over complete realism.

@ I was out of name ideas. That's a cool quote you've got in your sig. Wish i knew who said it cos they sound awesome. Oh wait i remember now, I said it...and i am awesome haha.

Back on topic. Maybe since this sounds like it would be predominantley a HC mode thing we could have people steal survival items off us that are valuable yet replaceable as opposed to unique guns. So they could sneak up and grab a couple of stimpacks, water or afew clips of ammo and high tail it. If we catch them then we get our stuff back, if not then HC mode just got a little harder because now we have less supplies to get us back to town. This way it would add a little more to the survival aspect of the game and if you think about it that's the sort of stuff wastelanders are gonna be after. They're going to be more worried about having enough to eat than grabbing your unique assault rifle.

Guys its a little annoying to see all this What i want in the game.It might have gotten into he game if it was posted Much earlier They've just about ended making the game.
This might have been constructive a couple months ago but now its just flooding the Forums if you find a problem with the game after its released.I.E stealthy Deathclaw then say "i think deathclaw should make huge inprints in the desert" But to Ask for things before the game is released or the'yve even gotten to the point where they can patch it.

Yes it should be risky.
Yes the game is all but finished, but it's good for furture games ( although they'll be years off ) & lets not forget DLC, ideas can still be added there too.
Also the dev's ( even though they'll be happy with what they've done with game ) will still have many ideas on the stuff they could of added ,but just did'nt have the time to do so etc.
You can bet your backside they had plenty more ideas for the game but could'nt use them for certain reasons, mainly time issues.
Just my take on it :)

As long as by risky you dont mean drugged and [censored] by a stranger  .

I'm up for most any encounter minus a radscorpion or Deathclaw, I hate them so much.

I like the general idea but I think the game should wake you when somebody attacks and make you defend yourself. Also If you do wake up to an attack you should move slower and have slightly blurred vision.

Or maybe, there would be some special minigame for that event, like a suddenly there would be scene where someone tries to stab in your face, and you would have to press certain buttons to prevent that, until you manage to get that from free, and then the real (normal) battle will beging against him. example: in xbox: " x, a , y , a , x , x , b , b, l2" Well i dont remember what those exactly button names are but still like that, but ofcourse randomly. In pc: " a, s, d, d , a , w , space.", or it could be done with mouse, where you press buttons from the wheel, where is differend areas that needs to be pressed, and maybe that wheel would spin in the process to make it bit harder, and with difficulty increased, it would spin faster. And ofcourse the difficulty could affect the other methods too, by making them longer and/or making the reaction time shorter, so you would need to press buttons faster, or else you will get knife in your neck. And maybe, if you would manage to get first half of the buttons right, and you fail in other half (50% button presses succes.), it would only stab in your chest, so you would only receive a half of the health reduced(depends on the endurance) and ofcourse your chest would be crippled. But if you fail in the first half, you will die instantly.

Should be like Morrowind where your rest gets interrupted. "Your rest has been interrupted by a Deathclaw!"

This I would like. I always remembered that ''Your rest has been interrupted'' stuff. I think that'd be pretty cool (and at times annoying) in Fallout: New Vegas

Interrupted rest, with the enemy closing to attack range. Perception to set how far out they are when you wake. Seems reasonable.

Yes and yes. I agree with these.
