sleeping out in open should be risky

Post » Wed Feb 02, 2011 6:20 am

Like say someone can do a Mr Sandman on you while you are asleep. Unless you have a Light Sleeper perk and can wake up to defend yoursef. The only safe place to sleep would be your own house after you lock the door. Or have a companion guard you while you take turns sleeping.

Seems like a good idea to have it based on Perception, and if you fail the check you wake up with some sort of disadvantage (people wont like it if you just die while asleep). Maybe missing health or weapons (attacker stole it- kill them to get it back).

Should be like Morrowind where your rest gets interrupted. "Your rest has been interrupted by a Deathclaw!"

I'd piss myself, while reaching for my dart gun/shotgun combo.

Interrupted rest, with the enemy closing to attack range. Perception to set how far out they are when you wake. Seems reasonable.

Having stuff stolen would be great. Especially if you have your auto save on sleep function is on.

I'd like it if they brought something along lines of the outdoorsman perk back. Add in more dangers to fast traveling sleeping in random places. Any auto event (sleep, wait, fast travel) in the waste should have some kind of danger

Maybe random encounter fast travel. Don't let people ride for free in the waste.

I think certain camp sites should have different levels of safety. Maybe your outdoorsman perk could tell you. it prompts you a message like:

"This place looks safe but this half eaten bag of fancy lad snack cakes and some warm coals makes you think this place isn't abandoned. "

Then choose Y/N

the interruption seems like a good idea
you wake up surounded by a few raiders or a deathclaw
i dont like the idea of having some of my things stolen
because id be pissed if i lost a unique weapon

Perhaps, when you wake up getting a notice that you were thieved, you have an opportunity (kind of like a mini-game or little quest) to get it back by chasing the thief or something. They would be really easy so you can almost always get your stuff back to avoid losing unique items, but the downside would be it was just really annoying to have an interrupted sleep and have to chase down your enemy.

But the sleep interrupted bit would be both exciting and terrifying, especially late at night.

Tracking someone and hunting them down, I love this idea. Some kind of tracking perk? How cool would that be for a slaver!

There should be a one-time event where you get captured by a small group of Caesar's Legion grunts to be sold as a slave. If you have a high rep with them, once they bring you back to base, the higher-ups will get pissed at them for not knowing and for kidnapping you, and give you a chance to get revenge or let them go. If you aren't on good terms with them, you have to break out on your own or (with high NCR rep) you could get rescued?

I would like maybe you can wake up captured at a raider camp, and you have to escape.

Or you wake up in the belly of a Deathclaw.

I'd rather just have the risk, if any be a chance of a group of people (raiders/*faction hostile to you*/random slavers/desperate wastelanders/beggars) show up when you wake up if you slept out in the open. How a skill would effect this i have no clue. (except explosives, if you place mines around your campsite )

I could see a random encounter doing this.

Oh god that was annoying in baldurs gate 2, every single time my party was low on spells and health I just wanted to do a quick rest and 5 enemies pop up, take care of them try to rest again, 6 more pop up and son on for like 7 times.

So... As long as I don't get woken up more than twice from my sleep then I'm fine with it.
More than that and it just becomes tedious.

Absolutely.... Having to rest a half dozen times just to heal a crippled limb would be the worst.

I like the general idea but I think the game should wake you when somebody attacks and make you defend yourself. Also If you do wake up to an attack you should move slower and have slightly blurred vision.

That. And perhaps a wobbly stance and momentarily lowered Strength stat, which wouldnt mean much, but perhaps you just couldn't wield that heavier weapon. Because I seem to be deprived of energy as soon as I am awaken abruptly.

This'd be pretty cool. Maybe they could implement it like a random encounter somehow?

It'd be especially cool if you unequipped all your stuff when you slept (for the sake of the encounter- normally it'd be untouched as usual), so that you're woken up, kind of groggy, and have to scramble to find your shotgun. :D

Hm... I think it should have a variety of choices. For example, say you have a fire to cook food, well, one of the historical uses of fire was to ward off animals (for some reason they don't like things which can kill them) so if you leave the fire on you'll be protected from creatures, HOWEVER there would also be an increased chance of other people finding you. Also for example say you could sleep with your equipment on, but you'd have to sleep more or buy better sleeping gear because lets face it, it won't be as comfortable.
