Smithing details

Please tell me you're joking.
In addition to real metals there's Malachite, Corundum, Orichalcum, and Moonstone.

I maybe be mistake about the ore, but I can confirm 100% there is a Orcish ingot (slightly green). I am fairly sure there is an Orcish ore though :P

All of the ingots kinda look bad/bland. Just recolouring of the iron/steal ones. I look forward to a mod to make them look nicer.
Okay, making an ingot of refined metal is the result of metallurgy, not the ore. You've seen orcish metal, not ore. Very important difference. Don't scare me like that.

EDIT: Or Malachite is the metal that orcish smiths know the secrets of working with to make their craft. As long as they aren't stupid enough to call it "orcish ore" it's all gravy.

Please, No "Daedric ingot".
That would be very bad.

Speaking of which, I hope raw ebony cannot be mined, only purchased/found/stolen. It comes from Vvardenfell, being volcanic glass made from magma and Lorkhan's blood.

I'm still debating whether to go light or heavy armor with my Nord warrior. Definitely going up the smithing tree. Just curious if anyone has more info on the Advanced Armors: Scale and Plate. What are these?

Also, in regards to crafting light armor. I did not see options for creating leather/fur armors. I'd assume you'd have to gather the resources from animals. Is this not part of Smithing and instead a different skill altogether?

Thanks.

Glass comes from the same source does it not?

Glass is just volcanic glass. Ebony is called godsblood for a reason.

You can create fur/leather armour, but no perk is needed like for iron. You get pelts from dead animals which you can turn into leather, and then into leather strips. You combine with pelts and leather strips (I think), or leather and leather strips to make the respective armour.

Nope. Mined. Also, Quicksilver, Silver, and Gold.
The materials list at a smelter appears to include everything EXCEPT Daedric and Dragon. So you might have to discover Daedric materials the same as you do Dragon materials.

Quicksilver Ore. That would be what, Mercuric Sulfide? Maybe Arsenide?

In regards to this, you can make Hide, Leather, Iron, and Studded which combines leather and iron without any perks.

Also, there's a thing in Whiterun called the Skyforge which creates materials which have superior native qualities than any other forge.

Daedric armor is made from specially treated ebony, using the stuff of Daedra to infuse it with their power.

Hopefully they've got some lore explaining what Lorkhan's blood is doing in Skyrim.

Very nice! Thank you! :D

but what about the Advanced Armors: Scale and Plate? Its like the lvl 50 on the light armor side of the tree. Curious if anyone knows what these are. Are they their own metal or is it just unlocking the ability to customize other metal armors even more, leaving Elven and Glass as the only metal-based light armors?

I do not know, but really want to find out for myself. I am presuming they are both light armour variants, although it might be one is Heavy (plate) and the other Light (scale)? No one who I have seen play has gotten that far sadly.

There are Imperial Armors available in the Tutorial that don't match any available at the Forge, so I'm guessing they have to be unlocked with that perk.

at the forge i've seen different types of steel armor.
normal steel armor
steel armor without pauldrons
horned and non-horned steel helmets
nordic steel armor
imperial steel armor

and these are just for steel.

maybe advanced armor gives the ability to create the platemail version of the armors? or maybe an upgrade beyond fine and superior, like master.

Thing is, the Imperial armor at the forge is a Lorica Segmentata. Nobody in Helgen wore that. It looks like this real Roman stuff: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lorica_segmentata
That IS plate armor.

The choice for shoulder pads is crying for a mod. Eg. with shoulder pads extra armor, but also extra weight.
