Smithing.. wtf?

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 9:28 am

So there are no Dragon weapons.. and Ebony and Daedric are both better than the Glass one.. despite Glass being the best you can make when specced into light armor smithing.

So i'm supposed to spend 5 perks in heavy armor smithing I don't want to get Daedric smithing just to build and improve a Daedric bow?

My options then are:

1) Ignore Light Armor smithing despite it being what I want and go up the Heavy tree because I have to anyway to get Daedric..
2) Go up the Light Armor side and the Heavy sides both and spend 5 perks on some [censored] I don't want or need..

Who's brilliant design idea was this? Why can't I go from Dragon to Daedric like the line connecting them on the skill tree would make you think? Or failing that.. why aren't glass weapons on par?

I haven't tried it, but I wonder if it is possible to perk into Glass and then Dragon and loop back around to Daedric, thus skipping Dwarven, Orcish, and Ebony?

I have seen no Daedric gear on vendors. I bought an Ebony bow (better than glass) but without the perk for Ebony smithing I can't fully improve it.

You can't hence this thread, Daedric requires Ebony and Ebony requires Orcish etc. Looking at the skill tree.. it's not assumed to be this way because there's a line between Dragon and Daedric.

You can't buy Ebony or Daedric items. Also I think he wants to improve it.

I just commit myself to getting all the Smithing perks, whether I'm a rogue or warrior. I mean dang they are practically required if you want any chance in the game.

You mean a smith would have to learn how to work on and improve other materials before learning new and stronger ones?
I don't see the problem. Either you want it or you do not, they are inter connected.

Nope, I was hoping this was the case but it's not.

The clear best choice, at least for stats, is to go the heavy armor side up to dragon and just use dragon scale light armor with daedric weapons, unless you're not going to use weapons you smith.

Ebony weapons are what I'm going to use just because they look better to me than glass or daedric IMO, and daedric isn't that much better anyway plus it's a pain to make.

So, just to clear this up...he went up the Right side which ends in Dragon (heavy) but can't go over to deadric(light) once hes done?

I thought Deadric was Heavy Armor (Right side)?

He went up the left side (light armor) seriously how could you not understand this? He cant go from dragon -> Daedric, and both Daedric and Ebony (which are heavy) have better weapons than glass (light) which is quite annoying having to skill up heavy armor that you dont want to wear just for weapons.

The reverse.. you can go up the left (light) side to Dragon (best light armor) but if you want the best weapons in the game you have to go up the heavy armor side. Which basically is a laugh in the face of everyone going the a-typical stealth/assassin type with light armor.

You're either forced to take 5 extra perks you won't use.. or if you want to save the perks you have to use heavy armor..

Not only that, but to add insult to injury by the time you can make flawless Leather armor you already wearing flawless Elven armor.

I haven't even improved an item and I'm at level 26. Playing on Master, so no, you don't need smithing.

Isn't this a non issue for most players? Most of your playing time will probably be spent with glass smithing or less, and that's where the light armour tree holds up just fine. It's only when you get to max level (where normally you can kill anything anyways) that you start to feel it. And even then, aren't there quest rewards or loot that are good enough to get any job done?

You say that like level 26 is high or something.. I don't think i'd even been to more than three cities when I was 26.

Regardless your experiences are irrelevant. You might as well say that a safety defect on a certain car model that makes your brake lines disintegrate doesn't matter because you don't own that car.

It's bad design, period.

I was just stating the fact that Smithing is not needed. I find exploring and finding my own powerful gear is a lot more fun than finding ingots and making it.

The dragon smithing perk is pretty useless given Daedric armour is better than heavy Dragon armour - and Daedric smithing comes first. About the only reason to take it is to turn all those dragon bits into money.

Smithing is not needed for you with your playstyle and your build at the point of the game you are at. It's only a fact for you.

Another flaw: You can't craft arrows. I can make armor from glass but I can't figure out how to craft an arrow.

I don't think that's true. I upgraded a dwarven sword even though I don't have the dwarven smithing perk. I think you only need the perk to craft new items. You can always improve things you find.
