Some players finished Dishonored in under 4 hours?!

Post » Sun Oct 07, 2012 7:29 am

I don't understand why some people try to get a fast playthrough. I find it more of an achievement to spend large amounts of time on a game, rather than finishing it ASAP.

The most time I put in a single player game was about 400 hours (over 20 playthroughs.) on Tales of Symphonia. And I am quite proud of that.

Yeah, i'd be more impressed with the guy who spend 40+ hours playing through Dishonored, than the guy who completed it in 10.

I mostly agree with a lot that Strifecross writes here, but in this case I agree with Celiria that art is purely a subjective thing. I don't believe theres some kind of meter that can be used to gauge the quality of one thing over another.

Too much bickering, didn't read all posts; basically, nothing to worry about right? Just the usual speedrunners?

Yes, and no. Speedrun with existing knowledge about the game = 3-4 Hours.

To clear things up, It didn't take 4 hours, more like 7-9. The player (not plural as OP believes) in question only rushed through the game and didn't explore or do side-quests at all. So yes, there is nothing to worry about.

Speedrunners are people who bug games to get past them as fast as the can. I actually respect these people because they break the system and bend it to their will so they can achieve the fastest time possible. It's more of a perfectionist/OCD thing as opposed to "play as fast as you can" and requires a lot more skill and knowledge than that.

I mostly agree with a lot that Strifecross writes here, but in this case I agree with Celiria that art is purely a subjective thing. I don't believe theres some kind of meter that can be used to gauge the quality of one thing over another.

Tell that to critics who've proven that wrong for over the past thousand years and have supported their claims with facts.

But yeah, who am I to say what's right or wrong, everybody is neither write nor wrong and they should claim ridiculous things just to hide their refusal to face reality. *extreme sarcasm*

Ignoring all other additions to this because it is off-topic and likely to get locked if we continue with a discussion that isn't going anywhere.

This is "I totally beat that boss the first try on hard" syndrome.

People love to go online immediately after beating a game and brag about how quickly they did it and how easy it was. It ALWAYS happens. People were saying that Portal 2 was 3 hours long the day after it came out.

Nothing new here, nothing to worry about.

I dont listen to critics to tell me how I should feel about something. Its either attractive to me or it isnt. Anyway, not to derail the topic further: My game plan is simple..take my time, soak in as much as I can, explore every nook and cranny(twice!) Hard to believe I'm finally getting this game after what feels like an eternity!

You know, Fallout 1 can be finished in slightly over 9 minutes. And Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time can be finished in less than an hour and a half.

.... Just as an aside.

Totally.

Because they don't know what quality is.

What exactly is he implying then? We all know to death that DX 1 and Thief aare the best games ever made in the entire planet, and thus all of you are now here(for Dishonored).

Credibility "lost"? That is your opinion ( as said by everyone). Everyone isn't going to agree with whatever you said. I am not(and never was) old-school, and I don't really want to bother myself going back just to satisfy some "older" people.

"They don't know quality"? You make it sound it as if your the special uber one and the entire gaming crowd are a bunch of idiots who dont know what to appreciate . Good, and the world doesn't revolve around you. Bioshock is already loved by many there, and the majority wins(as always), fair and square.

EDIT:I noticed there are even people from DX forums. Yeah(just to mention Beth fans) Don't argue with them. They are the uber hardcoe people who think they know better than the game designers haha.

Oh well, I can't please everyone. Besides, most gamers agree with that statement,so...

I am not going to go back and play the old Deus ex 1 or Thief 1/2 with horrible graphics(if that's what you are implying).I am sure those games are very good, but the graphics need an upgrade badly.

Then i honestly feel bad for you, since IMO you are missing out.

But that's just my opinion

I understand when all of you said that those games are great, but please for the love of god, upgrade the game(just like SH had done). I would gladly try it out once they have updated it. It will look horrible on my 24 inch monitor.

Especially since the Dark Engine games just got the ultimate uber patch. I was just playing one before I logged in here, in fact. (SS2, my first playthrough as Psi, and BOY was I missing out)

There are patches available that improve the graphics. Of course, don't expect them to be of Farcry 3 level of awesome, but a noticeable improvement.

Meh, IMO gameplay trumps graphics any day, and while a graphics overhaul would be nice, it is far from necessary.

Personally, I would strongly urge you to forget about graphics and just go for it: you really are missing out on some excellent games if you let graphics stop you. If you mean Silent Hill by SH, then I wouldn't say that's a good example; they took the fog away.

Edit: I would certainly welcome an overhaul like Morrowind, but I think you'd still enjoy the without it.

I did not know that, propably because i've never found it necessary.

When I initially played through the games, I loved them as is. But recently (before they were re-released on GOG.com) I was trying to make
them work on a more....modern system and had troubles with it. So I searched a bit and found a VERY active community of ttlg.com with all
sorts of tweaks/mods/guides on how to improve the Thief experience.

Oh absolutely.... just throwing this out there for someone that might like to try it out.

And the (I mustn't forget to mention it) the awesome fan expansion, Thief 2: Shadows of the Metal Age. Which is
big enough to be a full-fledged game.

4 hours is a looong time for an easymode run. Longer than deus ex, thief, bioshock etc

Just because you can drive to a city in 4 hours doesn't mean it's a short walk...

I'm going to take my time and definately try and get into the role of corvo. Exploration, finding runes and what not will take most of my time.
Also, ill take my time approaching each level.

That should give me a good amount of play time.

Casual logic.

Casuals are lesser beings. Their musings should never be contemplated. It's a pitty some developers do.

elitist logic.

Obnoxious people who have it stuck in their head that they are somehow special and that their opinions are of more value than others.

Sadly there are far to many of these kind of gamers at this point.
