Any chance is he over excited when he's saying it. Might just be that.
Maybe he was corrected on using 'uhms' and 'uhhs'. For a short period I spoke slowly so I wouldn't say any uhms, likes, or similar placeholder sounds/words. Needless to say, that didn't, like, last very long.

By the time I start talking I've already finished the conversation in my head so it becomes one big uuuuughhhhhh, string of uhmmm words!

Yes, he probably is. Which means that he needs to learn to slow down and think his thoughts through.

Duke Nukem: Forever was announced in 1998 and it wasn't released until 2011. Just sayin'. ;)
I needed 2 seconds: Look in the video description...

I hardly ever read any of the descriptions. But then again, I never watch anything on Youtube and think; 'Hey, this must be real.' but for a 12 year old, yeah, I can see how he would believe it. But even as I was telling him what each clip was from memory he still insisted it was real. It was only after the ending he realized it was fake but still contended that the clips were not from the movies I mentioned.

So, I get home from work and he runs out of his room all excited. He begins by telling me a story of what him and his friends were doing...

Kids are so funny sometimes.

He just wanted to impress Dad. That's so cool.

You can easily tell by the number of dislikes it has. And also the comments. (in addition to the other things pointer out earlier)

Why do you feel bad for him? I don't understand, you feel bad because I didn't find a poorly made Fallout fan movie impressive? Maybe I should've let him believe that it was real and pretended it was a cool video and told him we'd go see it. Either way, I'd still have to explain it wasn't real. Or, your under some sort of impression I'm a monster.

What would impress me us if he'd do all if his chores with

So does the video have so many dislikes because people didn't read the description? Or was it that bad (I watched 15 seconds maybe).

It's pretty bad. Its like the person who made the video just took random bits of other movies cobbled them together and said, 'DONE!'

It so bad that at one point you see John Connor fighting a Terminator.

Oh, I guess it is pretty bad though. The very beginning lorked sort of cool.

I don't think you're a monster, it's just sad to hear he wanted to show you a movie and you kinda blew him off. When I was 12 I was pretty gullible, too. Teaching him to look in the descriptions of videos, check comments and check the like/dislike ratio could've not only pointed out that the video was fake and crap, but taught him something. Totally Monday-morning-quarterbacking right now. I just know that my family was never supportive of the things I'd do when I was younger and now I hate them. They'd rather tell me how trivial or stupid what I did was, or not even acknowledge my apparent rant. So now they don't get to know what I'm up to anymore. I'm not saying you're like my family, but on the off chance you are, you don't have to tell him whatever he does is awesome, just give your opinion - and try to do so in a decent manner.
Or if you really dislike your son, just sell him. I hear South America is a hot spot for human trafficking.

I didn't blow him off. I watched the video with him and then told him it wasn't real. We watched it to the end. I at the time didn't realize the movies were in the description, I was pointing out the ones I remembered as we watched it. We have the same tastes in movies, we watch Star Wars: The Clone Wars every Friday night; we're both fans of Star Wars. He has started doing the same thing as I do with Star Wars figures too, when I buy a figure I usually stick it on a shelf in my bedroom or next to the computer and he's started doing the same thing. I merely tuned out his droning but started listening when he actually said something intelligent.

He's either really slow, or really smart. You generally don't see average kids pausing in their speech too much. It could also be a style of talking from some cartoon shows, I know they have a similar speech pattern. Could be many things, but to assume it's nothing seems a little foolish. But eh, your kid. Your problem.

He doesn't do it all the time. I think it's the style now. Its not a mental thing. I just think he gets excited over stuff. And why is it that everything turns into a "problem" when kids do things? I swear, I'll never understand it. Like when my daughter was born she was tiny, she's two and still kind of tiny. So, every time we'd take her to the doctor and he'd measure her and say, "Hrmm...well she's not anywhere on the chart." and I'd sit there and argue with him that what does his chart show? What is my daughter being compared to? And he'd say, "Oh, its this chart that has "averages" of children her age and she falls below some of the things on the chart." it'd freak my wife out and she'd start crying. One time he mentioned the chart to my wife and she got really upset and I looked at him and said, "The next time you whip that chart out I'm gonna shove it up your ass." Since then, he hasn't used the chart. My daughter is very healthy, talks up a storm, runs around, climbs all over stuff. So, his chart is crap.

My son is not [censored]. He just for whatever reason when he is trying to sound "cool" while telling a story he throws a lot of pauses in and it's really annoying. Normally, he doesn't do that, just when he is trying to tell stories. Geez.

Overly defensive. If you noticed, I said he could also be smart. It can also be a problem because may people are vain things that can be affected by peer pressure. They expect their kids and life to look a certain way because friends, family, and society is putting these pressures on them. Despite the fact that no "normal" person exists, these standards can mean a lot for people. More so for social people, but not always. Then again I also mentioned certain cartoons have characters with that speech style in them, they could be emulating it like you said. No need to be so over reactive. Out of left field there, unreasonable hostility.

Because he's twelve and all of his friends talk like idiots. "It's the cool thing".

 I remember a phase like that. My mother cured me by saying "It sounds like you're mentally [censored] when you do that". I stopped (except around my friends). Up to that point I was a pretty well-spoken little kid. My young nieces are in the "like" and "and stuff" conversation filler phase of their pre-teen speech dysfunction. I told their mother to expect about ten years of it at least. She cringed.

I never managed to get my head around that, I mean, Anakin has a padawan? Come on... Though I guess it's a great way for kids to get into the series.

I didn't find his post overly defensive or hostile, he just explained how his daughter was thought to be weird but turned out normal, and related that to his son's speech. Of course he's going to defend the possibility of his son being slow, which was the worst case in your post. Worst cases are usually what people focus in on. No point in jinxing the possibility that his son is a boy genius. :P

I have a stop-start speech pattern. I speak in this manner because I want to be as clear as possible when communicating with other people. Don't know if that means I'm smarter -- but I'll take it. Also, I'll sig this, if you don't mind.

Edit: This communication OCD even filters through to written/typed communication. I missed an 'a' when I was typing and had to edit this post just so I could include it.

I don't get it either. I just keep hoping that she gets killed every episode. Although I do like Ashoka she's cool.

My son is very well spoken, and normally he speaks very fast. He's a very smart kid A, B student.

Sounds pretty normal - kids go thru' different things as they mature. Parents don't usually listen to them even when the kids are clear and concise. It's a rule of thumb that you ignore their blabbering when pretending to listen the same as it's a rule of thumb that they never listen to you while you lecture them on their behavior.
As long as both parent and child have a good sense of humor they will both get along fine.

As to the actual theme of this one way conversation that Fallout is being made into a movie - my wife would have answered; " That's nice dear now clean up your room and get ready for lunch."
