I suggest strongly to watch it from 3:27 to 05:03. If you don't have a clue about the laws you're making, could you please not be condescending about those who actually understand that kind of stuff ?

I just get a kick out of thinking about how a big gathering of geriatric failures believe that they can outsmart some of the most intelligent and crafty people on the planet. Granted, pirates are criminals and deserve to be punished, but you have to admit that they are pretty good about not getting caught which takes a degree of skill. Additionally, pirates don't use the same websites that we do, so shutting down Youtube and the like won't even put a dent in virtual piracy.

This could be added to the original post? https://www.google.com/landing/takeaction/

It's the petition against it.

Here's a thought: What are all the Americans going to do if this bill gets passed, roll over and submit?

Once the law is in place I don't think a massive scale protest against it will be possible due to the net/social netowrking being the main way they are organised.

Exactly. This isn't an industry demanding that it not be regulated, it's an industry telling Congress that the language in the bill is outdated and doesn't match the reality of the situation. Given the free speach issues involved any regulation of the internet should be extremely specific. But instead SOPA and PIPA are so vague it's scary. I've heard more than a few people claim that objections are overblown, and no corporation is going to go after a small site just because it has a few movie screencaps. But are we really going to trust media corporations not to push this to the limit? Particularly when groups like the RIAA have specifically targeted every day people when they couldn't go after the big fish? Throw in the lack of due process and the fact that punishments don't line up with other crimes and it's embarassing that anyone in Congress supports this - and terrifying that so few actually understand much of it.

Maddox wrote a pretty good post on why he wants SOPA to pass, I would link it but it's definitely not appropriate for this forum :P

Yeah, I can't believe that was real when I watched it. It felt like a scene directly from a movie about highschool life.

What also worries me is this bill maybe a US government bill but since Australia signed the free trade agreement with the US, dumbest thing we could have done, but we also took on things such as company copyright and patents, so basically if this law is enacted in the US it wont be long till it is here, then whats the point of the internet, i understand way to much stuff is going on, on the internet and it really needs decent regulations worldwide, with worldwide agreement, but thats moreso to stop truely illegal use.

This is about the music association of america and the movie producers association of america weilding control, such as companies using drm as control, all they do is complain about lack of pofits and its the pirates fault, maybe they should look at the trash their producing, and the fact that they tender the production of films especially to overseas companies because its cheaper and they steal copies and thats how films end up in marketplaces and can be purchased before they are even released.

I can see why in alot of cases they are annnoyed at losing profits to pirates, where i live, 2 private school boys, both the sons of 2 of the biggest business men in town were arrested by the federal police, for piracy and im not talking about downloading acouple of films and storing them on their hard drive, i mean big computer sysytems multiple burners and selling lots of pirated copies, our trash and treasure market is listed as like one of 5 in victoria for selling pirated movies, now i can see why they want these guys, but from what i know so far about this bill it leaves to many holes open to be manipulated and used, by whatever company lobby group or interest lobby group to get sites removed.

Plus also when did the music association and movie producers of america run the world, it seems everytime you hear anything those two names appear constantly.

The Motion Picture Association of America cares about you. It doesn't want children to see boobs or hear curse words (though rampant bloodshed is cool) and it doesn't want you to turn into a pawn of the big corporations that it says are really behind today's blackouts at sites like Craiglist and Wikipedia, which everyone knows are both monstrous examples of corporate greed.

Wow. WOW.

So the big corporations have run out of legitimate arguments for SOPA, so they pull the NO U card?
