Space Core and the future of Elder Scrolls?

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 12:33 pm

Just wondering has Space Core become an official part of the Elder Scrolls universe? I mean will we see references to the God Orb from the Heavens in future Elder Scrolls games?

Doubtful. It was just a fun colab between Valve and Bethesda to kick off the Steam Workshop.

DLCs are mods, just made by the developers. And the space core was made, in part, by Bethesda.

Just something else to further dilute the series. Bethesda bastardise the lore when ever they get the chance. It's become almost common place.

But it isn't official. If it was official, then it would be in the dlc section, not the workshop section.

Cynic.
It was just a bit of fun, as was said, to kick off the workshop.
Personally, it's not to my taste but I can understand it if they want a bit of a chuckle.
It's harmless enough.

Your sentence is ironic, considering your views on roleplaying.

What views would those be?
Nothing wrong with role playing its just that Skryim doesn't offer the ability unless you pretend things are happening when they aren't.

I also fail to see how this has anything to do with Bethesda's continual abuse of the Lore.

Bethesda can do what they want with the lore, they made it to begin with.

Anyway, yeah as said before it's just a fun mod.

Here is a fun video of the fun mod. (Probably not lore-friendly so please, TES hardcoes, don't click this) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vToxMCegB4k

Right up until the point that they retcon any thing even remotely interesting into oblivion (pardon the pun).

Skyrim does offer the player plenty of opportunity to roleplay and you don't have to pretend in any way that things are happening when they are not, in the sense in which you mean it.
Skyrim like all of the previous TES games provides a canvas for you to use, in pretty much whatever way you choose to use it, if you are unable to paint on that canvas, is that Bethesda's fault?
It's difficult to imagine a series of games MORE suited to roleplaying.
In my opinion, obviously.

Also, are you not getting just a tiny bit overly sniffy about an obviously frivolous mod?

Oh come on. I'm a great fan of the lore too, but don't exaggerate. I kinda fail to see the connection between deviating from their lore and creating something with other devs just for fun. You won't even allow the developers to have some fun now? It's a mod (plus an easter egg/parody), so you don't have to feel obliged to actually download it.

It's a DLC and DLC are most likely canon, yet in the case of the Space Core I sure hope it's noncanon. :stare:

They rewrote the whole "Pocket Guide to the Empire" just so they could make change how Cyrodill looks in Oblivion. They are willing to change the lore at will to fit whatever they want, I think that IS a problem.

While this might be a "Fun" mod, it just reminds us that the current Dev Team doesn't really care too much about the "Lore". It wasn't needed.

a and b are two different things. I do agree they shouldn't have changed the lore, it comes over as a cheap way to solve problems. As an example, I'm missing the freaking cool sounding vampire powers from Immortal Blood. BUT we're talking about the space core here, something which happened to be a simple and pure easter egg from Portal 2. Conclusion? Of course it isn't canon! Neither is it "needed". An easter egg never suits the story, it's more like a nonsensical reference to something either inside or outside the same universe. Just for fun, you know? Plus, it's downloadable content, not something they forced in the game! >_< I really can't understand what you're having such a problem with, to be honest ...

Really, I hope you never played the Sierra games (King's Quest, Space Quest, etc.) back in the '80-'90s. They contained quite a lot of easter eggs, especially parodies towards each other. If you'd taken all of these as seriously as you do this, you'd hated all of them.

Oh cmon is it really that far fetched to believe that the Space Core has traveled far through space and crash landed on Nirn? A lot stranger things have happened in the Elder Scrolls universe and the Space Core does provide good material for potential easter eggs in future Elder Scrolls games, use your imagination and stop taking things so seriously.

But if space in the Elder Scrolls world is Oblivion, would that make it an Oblivion Core? Which Prince's devious plot could this be a part of? :ahhh:

The Daedric Prince GLaDOS. Her plane of Oblivion is Science, where the souls she has trapped are forced to perform Tests. For Science.

Technically speaking, the Space Core mod was made by Valve, not Bethesda. If it was a DLC, it would be distributed through however those are going to work on PC, and well as on Xbox Live and the Playstation Network. Or are we simply going to hold Bethesda responsible for allowing mods that aren't 100% lore accurate now?

It's not that. As you know:
A DLC is a MOD - it's a modification to the existing game, hence MOD.
A DLC is an official MOD.
