Speculation about the Morrowind DLC

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 6:28 pm

There are two roads leading to Morrowind from Skyrim. This makes it somewhat probable that the DLC will probably focus on the western part of Morrowind, most likely Blacklight. In fact, Blacklight seems to be the perfect location for a DLC; it borders Skyrim yet it can have the alien landscape of Morrowind. Here's a http://i.imgur.com/s3mbz.jpg of what a Blacklight DLC could consist of.

Now, consider the other provinces of Tamriel:
  • High Rock and Hammerfell - already covered by Daggerfall. Unlikely to be featured as a DLC.
  • Elsweyr - you have to cross Cyrodiil to get to it and a desert setting is too much of a contrast compared to Skyrim's cold climate. Plus I think implementing 9 or more races of Khajiit would be tough.
  • Valenwood - It's size is more fitting for a new Elder Scrolls game rather than DLC. Plus it has moving tree cities. Now that would be pretty tough to implement using today's hardware.
  • Black Marsh - again, you have to cross Cyrodiil, and I wonder how they'll explain that (i.e. do you pass over the Cyrodiil landscape? or is it just like a teleporter?
  • Cyrodiil - covered by Oblivion
  • Summerset Isle - the Thalmor point strongly that a future Elder Scrolls game will involve this in a major way. It's too large of a locale to be covered by a single DLC.
  • Akavir - again, too fantastic even for Elder Scrolls: snake and monkey-like races, Japanese-influenced architecture. Although it IS the land of the dragons...
  • Atmora - this might be possible, seeing how it is home to the ancestors of the Nords..

So, that means: 1) a plane of Oblivion (as in Shivering Isles). The 'Dawnguard' name suggests Azura's realm or 2) something that's near Skyrim yet unfamiliar to players, like Blacklight (has western Morrowind ever been seen on an Elder Scrolls game?)
Would be so cool :bunny: .

Yeh having Morrowind as a DLC could happen but it is unlikley, but it would be cool to see whats left of Vvardenfell. Hopefully they wont go to a fallout approach to DLC and make the DLC "small", hopefully it will be more like the previous TES games and have a big open landmass to explore. With that in mind it would be cool if they went somewhere outside of tameriel, mabey to Akavir? its a possibilty, and i do want to see some more "alien" looking architecture.

In the months prior to Skyrim's release... Mr. Howard strongly hinted at wanting to do something High Rock related. Anybody remember that?

Wow I wish it's true !

I personaly prefer new lands implanted to Skyrim land; not a magical gate or a ship.
this.
i hate that.... id be happy with a dlc expansion. not featuring new lands (dont get me wrong id like to visit/re-visit other provinces), but that can wait. am happy enough with skyrim.

am easily pleased, id be happy with some new weapons (different types), new quets n locations, more variety in enemies/races, more spells(mayb spell creation), perks and something more on vamps an werewolfs...

I'd be willing to bet that there will not be another province featured as a DLC, nor will we be revisiting old locations (like Solstheim).

I'd agree. The problem with picking another province is that Beth paint themselves at least partly into a corner over where TES VI can be set. The game does have four routes out of Skyrim, all either blocked or unreachable, but I can't see any being used. At best one might be opened up as part of a DLC taking part in Skyrim ("Report to the gate past Haldir's Cairn" or whatever), but a DLC set outside Skyrim seems VERY unlikely.

Keep in mind what they've said about DLC size. They said "Big" as in Fallout-3 style. Point Lookout was the biggest DLC for Fallout 3, but was still smaller than Shivering Isles IIRC (it's been a while since I went through them). They aren't going to try and fit an entire province into something roughly the same size. They can still do a lot, which is why I think an island expansion, elongated questline, Daedric realm, or Orsinium (props to whoever first suggested that in this thread) is what we'll end up with.

Uh, actually I think they said the opposite of that. "Larger and more substantial" being the words used, speaking directly in comparison to Fallout 3's DLC. They want bigger, they want true Expansions, and they have the clout to pull it off with Skyim's unexpected colossal success.

Now, I'm not saying that means Any part of Morrowind, or any part of any other province, I'm just saying that they can definitely do it.

I still think Roscrea or Orsinium are the top candidates. I'm also not ruling out Solsthiem again, simply because I think that's where Umbra winds up resting at the end of the Novels, which given that Umbra has been a significant artifact in TES history, it's odd that it doesn't appear in Skyrim.

For people saying that Todd said that skyrim DLCs will be more like fallout 3 DLCs is wrong x)
He said that skyrims DLCs will be more like big expansions with more "meat" on it,and i think he said it will be bigger then shivering isles too,i might be wrong, but lookslike they have big plans for skyrim DLCs.And he said it will take more time with this expansion and they want to release free content while we wait for the expansion

Visiting the Main-land may be a possibility, because we didn't explore any of that in The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. Only Mournhold which is only the capital of Morrowind, but if your talking about Vvardenfell then i would say no. Nothing remains only cooled lava i don't think you would want to be exploring something like that. It would be super boring.

I think a Daggerfall DLC would be possible, because Tod already mentioned it - and why not?

What if the Borders of Skyrim were to change in such a manner at this moment?

I for one would like to see Orsinium. But that's probably too big of a place to be featured in DLC. Most likely a Elder Scrolls game will be placed there.

I would like for Bethesda to eventually create a game where it has all the nations. It's extremely annoying to me that you can only go into one nation in each game. While it would take a long time to complete such a game, I feel it should be done. But as an endgame. As in the last of The Elder Scrolls games. It would shed some light on how the nations have changed since our previous visits in the other games.

Uh... Not really. Excluding TR mod for Morrowind, which isn't official or canon, we haven't already been to Morrowind. We've only been to the Vvardenfell District, which would be like saying Skyrim is a complete game with just The Pale open for exploration.

That said, I still think Roscrea or Orsinium are better candidates for Expansions... Though I'd certainly love to see Morrowind's mainland.

Either way, I'd rather go somewhere else.

Probably not. Maybe mainland Vvardenfell, but not Morrowind.

But even if it was, it probably wouldn't be a DLC, it would be an expansion.
