Speculation about the Morrowind DLC

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 9:20 pm

Hello everybody !
So I just saw a locked thread where people spoke ( at least at the end ) about a high possibility of upcoming Morrowind DLC.

Any thoughts ? maybe someone has a strong source ?

I'd be willing to bet that there will not be another province featured as a DLC, nor will we be revisiting old locations (like Solstheim).

I suspect there will be questlines on the level of Knights of the Nine that add a few locations to the vanilla map, a Daedric realm of some sort, and perhaps an island expansion.

There is no source, its only a coincidence between Morrowinds 10th Anniverssary, and speculation that DLC news comes out on the 11th, which as far as I am concerned isn't proven either.

As much as I'd love to see an expansion like that, I doubt it'll happen. At the same time, I don't think we can completely discount new lands in an expansion pack. Both Morrowind and Oblivion expansion packs featured new lands, and I'd like to think they'll keep that up.

Already been to Morrowind, I can honestly say I'm not interested in going back in a new game, I'd rather be somewhere else.

High Rock perhaps ?
But I'd be happy to visit any of them , never played Morrowind and I want to see it in the Skyrim engine.

Well there isn't much left of Morrowind during Skyrim's time, and I'm sure whatever is left doesn't look like the MW we all know and love. Seeing the ruins of Morrowind would be interesting and would add some closure maybe to what really happened over there.

Speaking of closure, I would love to know what really happened to Winterhold.

As great as it would be to experience Morrowind in Skyrim's engine, the devs probably want to create something new every time.

rumors are rumors

going back to morrowind would just spitting in the face of the original game

i say leave the original game as it is and don't risk spoiling its great name with some doomed to fail dlc there

I wouldn't plant your hopes too deeply into these rumors, OP. It is, after all, just rampant speculation. I would love to know what the forthcoming DLC will contain, but I'm also content enjoying this masterpiece of a game until it gets released.

Considering how the eruption of Red Mountain is touched on a lot in Skyrim, I wouldn't be too surprised if it shoed up in the DLC. Especially since the game took place largely on Vaardenfel, it could be just a matter of crossing the border and checking out some previously unseen mainland of Morrowind.

There are two roads leading to Morrowind from Skyrim. This makes it somewhat probable that the DLC will probably focus on the western part of Morrowind, most likely Blacklight. In fact, Blacklight seems to be the perfect location for a DLC; it borders Skyrim yet it can have the alien landscape of Morrowind. Here's a http://i.imgur.com/s3mbz.jpg of what a Blacklight DLC could consist of.

Now, consider the other provinces of Tamriel:
  • High Rock and Hammerfell - already covered by Daggerfall. Unlikely to be featured as a DLC.
  • Elsweyr - you have to cross Cyrodiil to get to it and a desert setting is too much of a contrast compared to Skyrim's cold climate. Plus I think implementing 9 or more races of Khajiit would be tough.
  • Valenwood - It's size is more fitting for a new Elder Scrolls game rather than DLC. Plus it has moving tree cities. Now that would be pretty tough to implement using today's hardware.
  • Black Marsh - again, you have to cross Cyrodiil, and I wonder how they'll explain that (i.e. do you pass over the Cyrodiil landscape? or is it just like a teleporter?
  • Cyrodiil - covered by Oblivion
  • Summerset Isle - the Thalmor point strongly that a future Elder Scrolls game will involve this in a major way. It's too large of a locale to be covered by a single DLC.
  • Akavir - again, too fantastic even for Elder Scrolls: snake and monkey-like races, Japanese-influenced architecture. Although it IS the land of the dragons...
  • Atmora - this might be possible, seeing how it is home to the ancestors of the Nords..

So, that means: 1) a plane of Oblivion (as in Shivering Isles). The 'Dawnguard' name suggests Azura's realm or 2) something that's near Skyrim yet unfamiliar to players, like Blacklight (has western Morrowind ever been seen on an Elder Scrolls game?)

Like you say we have 2 gates, that from what many say, looks like an island with the Volcano that looks an aweful lot like Morrowind. Does anyone know if that island is for sure Morrowind, and was added there as just a landscape view from Skyrim, and nothing more? Don't know all the facts, but I've heard a lot so far that it is Morrowind, yet inaccessible since its just close by...

Makes you wonder... 2 Gates! LOL!

Being Realistic the DLC will never take place in another province. Think small like a house DLC or a tiny island with 5 -10 hours of gameplay. I would love to be proven wrong though.
