Speculation on level cap increase

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 2:04 am

Hey, how do you guys feel about a level cap increase occurring in Dragonborn? I certainly wouldn't mind it with the new speculated perk trees coming out. Especially with the supposed additional smithing types.

I'm really hoping they raise it to 100. I know that would be difficult to get to. 80 is hard enough as it is but that would also make it more challenging and fun to get to 100. Even with 100 as the level cap, you couldn't max out all your skills so no body would be butt hurt like they were in Fallout New Vegas :o

But if they raise it they'll screw up the 9 thing! They're obsessed with the number. The nine divines. Nine dragon priest masks. Nine holds. Level cap is 81, which is 9 times 9! The shouts are three words, three times three is nine! it all comes back.... to nine.....

Increasing the level cap would be simple, it could be executed at the patch level. Just increase the maximum skill levels for certain skills. I once suggested a cap of 110 for skills that start at 20, and 120 for skills that start at 25. It makes for less homogenous characters. Doubt it'll happen, but still a good idea.

Adding perk trees is more problematic, but still very doable; Dawnguard proved that.

YES. And 18, the current number of perk trees, is 9+9.

I wouldn't be a fan of it.

There's nothing that they're adding that any of my Assassins would ever make use of, so it would be as if they hadn't increased it at all.

And why do we need it? if you should put in the time and get your character to level 81, you're at that threshold of achieving Godhead anyways...

How much more powerful do you need to be? Nothing in the game can really stand against you at that point, so what would be the point of having even more power?

I've never stayed with one character long enough to reach the level cap anyway. I normally ended up making a new one every time I reached level 30 or so.

This.

Due to the current split, a separate spear tree makes no sense whatsoever, and mages get the least from shouts, so them having the shout tree doesn't really fit.

Ehhh don't really need a level cap increase, and where are people getting this idea that we are receiving new perk trees? The additional smithing types can easily be put into existing perks.

They may have a perk reset system.. just as there is a way to redo your character(I might be thinking of another game..)

You are definitely thinking of another game.

There has never been a "respec" option in the Elder Scrolls series, and I very highly doubt that there ever would be an option to do so.

Having a reset option is like... graduating from college with a degree in Water Reclamation Engineering, then deciding that just because you're bored, you're going to use a respec option to become a doctor within a couple of minutes.

I could have sworn one of those updates allowed for you to redo your character appearance.

Well anyway, yeah, well, they could allow for more perk points, I guess, WITHOUT increasing your level. .

XD of course this is all just wishful thinking.

I wouldn't mind a way to "sell" unused dragon souls for extra perks, like say 10 souls for a perk. That way I can branch out into different "class" types without creating a new character. However I do not see a point in increasing the level cap, since it's entirely dependent on skill level which can already be maxed out to 100. Perhaps if they added new skills you could then level up more and get more perks, however with what I remember Bethesda saying before Skyrim came out about streamlining everything (removing acrobatics and athletics, the different blade types, ect.), I highly doubt they would want to add more. Instead probably just using already available perk trees, like using two handed perks for spears (if we actually get them, giants have clubs we can't use so rieklings might have spears we can't use). Regardless I have two level 81 characters and I had no idea what to use those last few perks on, dare I say I actually ended up putting them into lockpicking to maybe get more loot. So it's not really a concern of mine to begin with.

Dawnguard placed a "Face Sculptor" in the Ratway in Riften, but there's no way to respec your characters abilities, just their appearance.

Perks could always be reasigned... for a price of course. Maybe every once in a while, and a big pot of gold or a few dragon souls. Who knows... Bethesda surprises.

I always thought that mages could potentially get the most out of shouts, to be honest. With a bit of practice, they could synergize pretty well IMO.

If they do add a shout perk tree it'll be handled the same as Werewolves and Vampire Lord perk trees were.

It's 8 divines. And if they are obessed with the number 9, the level cap could be raised to 99.

i would hope they would raise enemy level cap instead since i already feel way too strong past level 40 on master, don't see how would game benefit if they would raise level cap to 100 it would just make you doing bunch grinding in all directions to reach it

unless they would increase that you can go past 100 skill points to avoid grinding, but that wont happen
