Stability Issues Now A Major Concern

Post » Sat Jan 29, 2011 2:34 pm

In the new ign preview this is what was said...

"Fallout: New Vegas is due out October 19, and I hope Obsidian has the chance to put a bit more polish on it before shipping it out. The portion of the game I played frequently had issues with maintaining a stable framerate, and the AI quite often had problems quickly finding the best path while moving. These aren't particularly new issues to those that have played Fallout 3, and the game still works as you'd expect, but I still remain ever hopeful for an improved experience."

Not good at all...

I would hope not. Yes, fo3 was awesome, but I would expect them to fix the bugs as they go along. Having the same problems that existed in an earlier version appear in the next game is not good mojo.

They probably just didn't make the settings to match the demo machine's capabilities. I think your just worried over something that can be easily fixed.

Im not surprised about this at all. It is the same game engine after all, with just a few minor tweaks. There are going to be flaws that were present in FO3 that are still present in New Vegas. Honestly, I don't really mind....

I'm pretty concerned about this. It's not really minor bugs that concern me like the ones they described, but I hope they improve upon walking across the wasteland when suddenly giant black lines come from out of nowhere when you face in a certain direction. I hated that. They need to fix major bugs like that. And they really need to make sure they improve upon things that would cause me to need to restart my Xbox just to continue playing, such as freezing, or when I enter VATS but have little AP so I can't attack anyone and it will glitch so I can't back out of VATS, causing me to be stuck in VATS which I cannot use. Things like that.

So ...

It's like FO3?

In that case, I'm cool with it.

My FO3 didn't have many glitches anyway except for a giant gray line that appeared once in a blue moon when I turned in a certain direction which went away once I fast-traveled.

As long as major freezing and crashing issues are fixed I can easily live with a couple stutters.

My biggest issue was fighting an invisible deathclaw at level 4....VATs would not work for some reason (I mean it never even highlighted the Deathclaw). It also got me....

Oh, god. That thing was like Satan in a troll. Especially if you played on a higher difficulty.

On topic: Whatever. I'll install it to my 360's hard drive. Make backup saves. Do this for most games anyways. Usually solves most of the issues.

One concern of mine is the members who are going to end up with a warning for not abiding by the forum rules they agreed to when they joined. Especially this part : In addition, please do not take it upon yourself to be a spelling and grammar cop.

It is a great concern of mine, since there is a lot of writing and logging involving a warn and posting ability suspension.

Fallout 3 had some issues, but usually the only time my game would freeze would be after I played for hours without a break. Unless it is significantly worse with FNV, I can deal with it. As far as the AI goes, at least there's no lava for an escortee to throw themselves into.... Huzzah. :glare:

I'd wait 'til we get the game. After all, it probably is still in Beta(if the Marcus picture was made just recently).

I don't think they have much time at all. They only have just over 2 months, and in that time they have to fix all of the bugs and there will most likely be no change to the content. If I'm not mistaken the game goes GOLD about 3 weeks to a month before release and in that time they make the copies, ship, and store themamong other things. That really leaves them little time.

I do however feel that this will be a superior game than FO3, for several reasons. Among those is that Obsidian had more time to focus on story and content since the most of the game mechanics, models, and textures are carried over from FO3.

I don't see any big surprise in this topic.

Fallout 3 was not exactly the most stable game ever made, I mean, sure, some people didn't experience too many problems, but there were also those who did not have such luck, but in any case, Fallout 3 had its share of bugs, and I didn't expect New Vegas to be any different. Now obviously, it would be nice if the game could, upon release, be a much more stable game than Fallout 3 was, why would anyone NOT prefer their games to not crash or experience framerate issues on a regular basis? However, I realize things can't always be that way, since the developers don't have an unlimited amount of time to work with, they might not be able to fix every problem they can find in the game before it needs to be sent off to prioduction.

If it does not become more unstable than Fallout 3, I think I can live with it.

I was referring to the in game graphics settings. Even on the console versions I'm sure they have these but are at a permanent non changeable setting for the console's hardware capabilities.
