Starting Spells for everyone.

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 12:40 pm

Every character starts with these two spells:
Flames: A gout of fire that does 8 points per second. Targets on fire take extra damage.
Healing: Heals the caster 10 points per second.

Breton's also start with...
Conjure Familiar: Summons a Familiar for 60 seconds wherever the caster is pointing.

Dunmer also start with...
Sparks: Lightning that does 8 points of shock damage to health and magicka per second.

Altmer also start with...
Fury: Creatures and people up to level 6 will attack anything nearby for 30 seconds.

Just to clarify, these spells are available to any race in the game. The races listed just start with those spells as a bonus for their +10 proficiency in certain magics.

That's pretty effin' Cool.

But, with a +10 to Restoration, shouldn't Imperials get another spell too?

Like Turn Undead or something?

Dunmer should get Frost, as you find a Tome of Sparks in the tutorial dungeon...

The Altmer and Breton bonus spells are cool though.

They should, yes. But these are confirmed by the guy on Reddit who also gave us the Race stats and perks. He says this is it. I'll edit if he updates.

Yay, I thought I had to do the whole tutorial with my fists. But now I have a Familiar.... I hope it's not a mouse.

I guess they figured since you already have a Restoration spell you don't need another.

Any idea if it's possible to delete spells? Your spells page on Oblivion could get cluttered up awfully fast once you acquired higher ranking spells. I know the magic system is overhauled, so maybe there aren't too many spells in the game, but there will probably be some spells that I'll never want to use and would prefer to just get rid of.

I know... it's really lame. Still, two destruction spells that do pure damage kind of over-lap. I'd be nice if they got something with a bit of a twist to it, even if it was another destruction spell.

That Fury spell is going to get a lot of use for the first 12 or so hours of the game.

Without Oblivion's horrendous auto-levelling level specific spells like Rage might be remotely useful even without the perks. I hope so at least.

That doesn't look true from the information I've seen, the player doesn't start with any spells, instead finds a sparks spell tome soon after they start.

It's been confirmed for a while that everyone starts with the flames and healing spell. The noob playing the leaked footage did not go into the magic menu so these spells were never seen, but they were there.

The only thing that doesn't seem to fit is the imperials not getting a extra spell because don't they have +10 in restoration? Other than that it looks kind of snazzy, though I do kind of agree with those who think the spells should have been in tomes that you can choose to pick up.

Maybe the Imperial Restoration is actually a mistake (display only?) and it was meant to be Speechcraft..
That would explain the lack of the additional spell and the lack of speech in Imperial skills..

Once again, the game is set in Skyrim, home of the Nords, my people(Imperials) are not liked here, speechcraft would be useless.
