Stealthy Characters and DragonsBosses

I've done the same, and my stealth characters had to do very little killing in either MQ. There were some fights (especially in Oblivion) which we couldn't/didn't avoid, those playthroughs were not slaughter fests.

In Oblivion sometimes his friends would come back even though I sat there for nearly 10 minutes watching their pattern. I lunge and then the horde came, ahahaa. But for the most it was smooth sailing in both games with a stealth based character.

Stealth has never been a reliable go-to in Elder Scrolls. At least not for the last two games. You still need some face-to-face fighting ability, for when they won't turn around and for when there's more than one. I don't expect Skyrim to deviate.

Equip your light armor, your sword, your bow, and go at him.

My first reaction to your post was to yell "No! All archetypes are possible!", but then I remembered that trying to be a pure stealth character in Oblivion was pretty bad without mods. Stealth seemed more like an afterthought really, it lets you do some pretty high damage to one character, but in Oblivion there was rarely ever one character alone. Even when they were not alone, using a bow made you invisible if you are far enough away thanks to the horrendous AI. Outright confrontation with multiple enemies was unavoidable, a stealth character was forced to either stand and fight like a warrior or backpedal and shoot arrows like an idiot.

The point of a stealthy character is to avoid much confrontation. If you choose to play a sneaky character, this is the downside. Adapt your character to handle his or herself with a blade as well, and you should do fine. I seriously doubt Bethesda designed this game to constantly punish stealth-oriented players.

Creepers are people too!

What makes you think suprise isn't possible? Oh nevermind, I see your worries are likely spiraling as the game nears release....anxiety is fun.

Oh, just because every video we've seen the dragons have come careening from above down onto the player character. Heck, I plan on playing a spellblade character, this question was merely academic.

That statement is incorrect as stated before to the person you were talking to. I played a pure stealth character. And I have played a pure magic character.

I always play as a stealth character the first play through and usually make more than one stealth characters, I actually like the fact that it'll be more challenging to fight a dragon/boss as a stealth character. (well if it is, I can't imagine you can back stab a dragon when it's flying, unless you count sneak attacking with a bow)

I'm playing a pure stealth and if I have to drag an NPC along as 'Distraction/Draagon chow' then I will.

Thought: As guards are so happy to chase you and are likely stronger than normal NPC's I might just troll one into chasing me through what I know is a dragon spawning area then hide whilst dragon and guard fight, pick my moment (just as either is about to die) and back-stab away :)

There's a perk for that ;) it does get less of a multiplier than daggers but it's about the same as other non dagger one handed blades

EDIT: Just checked at http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Perks and they've updated their layout, it's very detailed now!

Bows can get up to 3x damage
One-handed can get up to 6x damage
Daggers can get up to 15x damage
