Steam coming to Android & iOS

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 6:00 am

So signed up for this even though you don't really use Steam?
I buy games, I don't need to talk to people when playing a game.

That's looks surprisingly useable.

I was expecting it to be laggy and slow, but judging by what you said to Teehee, it's not. :P

Works well? Is it responsive? Does Mobile Steam have Voicechat?

Well if you feel like sharing I would really like to see how this works.

The store is a bit laggy at first but that may be because my phone isn't exactly high performance (Samsung Galaxy Gio)

Everything else is really responsive and easy to use, which surprised me as well

No, at least I don't think so.

The options menu is empty at the moment.

I'll upload screenshots of every page on the app later tonight, I have a game I want to buy so I have a reason to try out the mobile store.

Linux. Please....
I'm pretty sure that Valve would release a Linux version of Steam as soon as game developers start developing games for linux ;)

Downloaded, installed, logged in; "Your account is not part of the beta. Thank you for your interest. A note of your account has been made. We'll be sending out more invites soon."

So, is this "soon" Valve Time soon or is it Bethesda soon?

Since Gabe is working on the mobile version of Steam will there be no Half-life episode 3 probably Half-Life 3?

Sorry, I had to. ;) :)

There's a big difference between supporting a client and supporting games . And mobiles are more standardised than GNU/Linux.

http://www.desura.com/games has a bunch of games for Linux that are also on Steam, and Source should be relatively straightforward to port ;).

I just got the beta invite, it seems very smooth and functional so far on my android. Not some bloatware that crashes every 5 mins, so i'm happy with it.

It works well. No slowdowns of any sort, easy to use, runs nicely in the background if you want it to, turn it off if you don't. I kinda wish that it made the default Steam "Bwoing" noise when you got a message, but that's nitpicking at best.

Overall I have to say that I like it.

Sounds great. I'll download it later today and play around with it.

EDIT: Just read some of the other posts - it appears you need to have been invited to the Beta to use it at the moment. :(

I own at least 20 games that run on Linux (Paid for, but mostly indy) and run several games through Wine. AOK, DOW etc.

If steam could develop a copy protection that worked with Wine then I would be much more likely to buy Skyrim etc as at present games with copy protection pose "issues".

Source games shouldn't be too hard to port, given they work with Mac

Sorry I don't quite get it... what's the point other than tracking Steam sales?

Huh, sounds cool. I don't have an iPhone or Droid, but I do have an iTouch. How does it work? Are you allowed to purchase games and download them to a different location (like a computer with the same Steam account)?

You should still download the app and sign in, that signs you up for the beta. It look me a day after doing that to get in.

I mostly like it for using Steam Chat when you aren't at your computer

I have 1 Steam Mobile Access gift I can send to someone. I don't know if it's rare or anything to get into the beta for the app, but if someone wants it, just send me a PM. :P

Yaaaa! Now we can get crappy indie releases that you never hear of after a week of their release, all on our iPhones and iPads!

I was accepted into the beta, and I love the app so far. I've been waiting for this for a long, long time. I have yet to try out most of the features, but the app is intuitive and snappy enough on my iPhone 4.

Looks like something I'll never use. :P I'm never really in a hurry to buy games that I'd need to buy it from my mobile. As for chatting, I use mobile forums baby!
