Storage container?

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 9:53 am

Heya - Im a bit comfuzzled about the storage thing. Are there any containers where I can store my stuff before (or without) having to own a house? It seems kinda FAIL if there is no safe storage ability.

What If I kill a resident in a house, can I then take over the house without it resetting after 3 days?

Test it. Put something cheap in a container and then see if it's still there after a few days, I did that all the time in Oblivion.

yeah I could that, I was just curious if anyone could confirm or deny that there were an actual storage space somewhere we could use.

I think you aren't supposed to consider storing stuff. You have to buy a house if you want to put stuff in it you will never touch again.

Yea this is kinda a "fail" imo. I haven't been able to store anything in containers anywhere, and I've tried several different types.

My Nord barbarian was forced to throw all his armor on the floor of his bedroom in the Inn at Riverwood. He likes walking around in normal clothes when he's in town. Anyways, he can't store all this stuff, so he throws it down, and then some NPC walks up to his room and says "hey, are you trying to get rid of all that stuff? Mind giving it to me?" or something. At least the game gave my Nord a chance to say "Yes" or "No", but yea, that is a bit faily that he can't store stuff

That's fail. In Oblivion and I'm assuming Morrowind, stuff could be properly contained in actual containers. The fact that Skyrim is not the same isn't game-breaking, but still a fail.

Thing is Im running around with some crafting items way above my crafting level. I dont want to throw them away or sell them and I dont want to own a house. Its just silly that I cant rent a room or the likes :/

And this worked? No one has come to claim your stuff? I might just use a hide-out I cleared and store it all there if it works.

Honey, I've read that Skyrim is the native land of the Nords, with built in cold resistance! So while you are used to being up close and personal with the on-high abilities, for me I'm still learning what Morrowind and Oblivion mean (they sound bad... like Frankomatic game theatre http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?app=forums&module=post§ion=post&do=reply_post&f=118&t=1260958&qpid=19183357)

Cool post!

i Don't really mind it actually makes me strive to get a house and make loot decisions and sell non enchanted or essensioal gear. I even bought a horse so i can escape with my loot to nearest store.

ye well the stuff in the dungeons was there for about a week in game time

and the fort i took over was empty for over a week since i cleared it

so i assumed it wasnt gonna respawn

i only just moved my stuff so ill see how it goes but i never had problems in oblivion or fallout
i used to hide my stuff in a garbage bin in the toilets in fallout 3

not all forts do this but this 1 i selected seems good at the moment

I've been using Faendal's house in Riverwood. If you complete that fake love letter quest in his favor, he'll agree to be your follower, and all of his items and containers become free for the player to take (rather than counting as stealing).

If you trade Faendal for his house key, the house remains locked when he's not there, and no other NPCs can enter it. I'm still not sure how many (if any) of the containers inside are "safe"... guess I'll find out soon, heh. The chest and cupboards are probably safer than the sacks and urns; I'm not sure how Skyrim handles respawning containers compared to Oblivion and Morrowind.

It has been said by Bethesda that all containers and locations (dungeons) respawnin Skyrim.
It takes time, up to one mont ingame but it happens.

The only safe spot to store stuff is in one of your homes or in your room in rhe mage guild (forgot the name).
It's the only guild that is known to give yo your own space with storage.Well of course maybe there are others that havn't been discovered yet.

But dungeons and homes that are not yours aren't safe in the long run.

Someone said that the containers in the Companions house in Whiterun are safe if you join the Companions. I have not tried it myself but I think I will, I am so tired of carrying my stuff around.

Better watch your stuff........I read someone tested the respawn time on Bleak Falls Barrow and another place. It took about 4 weeks game time to respawn enemies and containers. Just don't want to see you lose you loot.

Wrong, In Oblivion, most containers respawned.

It does seem rather annoying that every container respawns (if that's indeed true)... if I find a forsaken hole in the ground in the middle of nowhere, I feel I should be able to hide stuff there without the containers automatically respawning their contents. On the other hand, if you own something truly crucial, you can just drop it on the floor in one of these hidey-holes until you get a house. Plus, you can come back and loot respawned containers again, so that's nice.

What we need is a mod that lets you turn wood into chests (with their own key), barrels and crates owned by the player. They'd be heavy, but you could place them in some little clearing somewhere and keep your stuff there if you just want to be a hermit instead of a homeowner.

GO GO GADGET MODS!

There is a skeleton floating under the bridge that leads to the Jarls keep in Dragonreach. I doesn't seem like it would respawn but I have put some wood in there to test it out.

There's a point fairly early on in the main quest where you get a room that's better than any house for my taste.

Spoiler
The chests in that secret room in the first inn in Riverwood seem to be safe. I've stored my stuff in there for several game weeks now without it disappearing.

Does anyone know if the containers in the room at the College of Winterhold respawn? I put almost all of my stuff in there a day ago in game and I don't want to lose it all to container respawn.

Oh good, so it is possible to store stuff this way? Guess I just haven't found a place to do this yet.
