Such a SMALL selection of Swords!

Post » Wed May 18, 2011 5:54 pm

Topic.

Why is there only "technically" 2 Swords in this game?! Really? Fallout 3 had (with DLCs):

Chinese Imperial Sword
Shock Sword^
Shiskehbab
Samurai Sword
Vance's Sword

That's at least 5 just off the top of my head (that's not all of them I think, I haven't played F3 in soooo long).

But basically now there's only the Bumper Sword and Shiskehbab!? And the BS is NOTHING compared to some of the Melee weapons (Chainsaw, Oh Baby!, etc.). It is SOOOOOOOO weak, WHY did you take away the Swords?!

This really puts me down cause I was just about to make my Melee/Unarmed character for the Legion. And I decided to just go with Guns because there's literally NO good Melee Weapons BESIDES "Oh Baby!".

You put so much more emphasis on Melee in this game as far as perks/vats/etc., but you took away ALL the good and BEST Melee weapons in Fallout 3?

I've been told the next DLC (1/2 left), is going to be ENERGY WEAPONS (my LEAST favorite type of weapons...). This dissapoints me HIGHLY. Why didn't Honest Hearts have any good melee besides the War Club? And that thing svckS so badly compared to all the other Weapons.

All i've gotta say is this last DLC in July BETTER have AT LEAST 2 swords, or i'm honestly thinking of not even getting it, OR the one coming in June. I've put SOO many hours into this game now, trying to love NV like I did with Fallout 3. But, you taking away 1 of the main things I loved about F3 (Swords), is really not helping your case guys! :D

Anyone else noticed this, bothered by this?

Try playing The Elder Scrolls. I haven't myself, but I'm sure there'll be a sword or 2 for you there.

Did, completed it 100%, even quests. KTHX.

Been there done that, I played Oblivion obv. before Fallout 3 and NV. And to the guy above you, did you not read my post? Fallout 3 IS IN THE FUTURE and theres at least 5 base Swords. New Vegas isn't THAT far ahead in the future that people forgot how to wield/make a sword. (BUMPER SWORD!)

I just think they wanted to focus on guns/energy weapons more then anything, and it's extremely lame.

BTW, you CANNOT tell me in the Future if you didn't have access to Energy Weapons or Guns, you wouldn't make your own Sword? (coughBUMPERSWORDcough?)

Obsidian just completely took a chest dump on this game and then stabbed it in the chest. Bethesda I IMPLORE YOU please make Fallout 4 and MAKE SURE Obsidian doesn't touch it whatsoever.

Just because we are out west, doesn't mean that WHOLE SIDE OF THE COUNTRY doesn't know WTF a Sword is?!

EDIT: gamesas/Obsidian, PLEASE bump up the Bumper Sword's DMG close to Oh Baby! At LEAST! You won't let us get Lanius' "Blade of the East", so please put a patch in to actually make the BSword formidable!!!

Yup, my favorite melee weapon in the game. Besides if your rp a Legion character then the bumper sword actually fits in pretty good, Lanius uses one after all.

yep, the spread in damage is terrible. a load of toothpicks or a bloody gravity hammer. tier balancing is weak for melee. needs loads more mid tier ones to cater for a mid strength assassin, you dont see any samaurais built like hulk

There's at least four swords:

Bumper Sword (Plus Blade of the East and Lily's vertibird rotor sword)
Shishkabab (HH DLC)
Machete
And the Gladius Machete (though it looks more like a kukri.)

There's also the machete you get with the tribal preorder pack if you ordered from... Walmart, I think.

There are less swords in FO:NV therefore it is clearly a sub-par game. Glad to see we're on the same level here.

Man I just love the Fallout 3 generation. All they care about is getting a fancy new laser gun.

"No swords? crap game"

also this is Fallout, not Elder Scrolls, a sword wont protect you from a shotgun blast to the face.

That's what I wanted to make, a Legion guy. But, once I found out you can't get the "Blade of the East" because it's the end of the game I got REALLY disappointed!!!

But, I heard if you're WITH the Legion you can pick-pocket "BotE" off of Lanius? Is this true?!

I just think it's so stupid that all of the Melee weapons are completely unbalanced in SO many ways. Basically Knock-Knock, Chainsaw, and Oh Baby! are the only "good" melee weapons. There's no love for Swords whatsoever. NOR mods even for Melee weapons!

PLUS, you can't even "Craft" Shiskehbab's at Workbenchs anymore?! WTF?!

I can see there being a few ornamental swords in DC, but Vegas? If I really tried, I could make the assumption that a few pawn shops might have some, but these would be replicas unless taken from the dead after the war.

IMO Swords don't fit the setting ~much; though I really, really expected to find a pawn shop in NV with a katana hanging over the door, a gas chainsaw, and a basemant with a few of http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Ball_gag...

Well given that TeS V has no spears and FO:NV does I'd say yeah for FO melee.

Got me thinking though.. I'm reading the Flashman series of books ATM, and taking alot of inspiration on the wild west style ones for NV.
A cavalry officer sword or two for the NCR rangers, plus some tomahawks for the Khans would be fun to see.

Don't really care much for swords but I would like for the Shock Sword to have been in Vegas.
Since BOS had Gauss Rifles it seems only fair they'd have Shock Swords too.

First, I partially agree with the OP about the small selection of swords compared to guns. Yes guns are greater than swords, but you don't have to reload a sword. They are a reasonable weapon of post-apocalyptic future. Actually swords are important to American culture, as they are still a required uniform item in the Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard), and a huge part of our history. Now the types of swords I'm writing about are Sabres and cutlasses. There are also the tanto-style short swords that the special forces use. In a post-nuclear war setting like fallout, it is reasonable that if folks raided the armories for guns, they got the swords as well. True, if someone with a shotgun has the drop on you and you only have a sword...well that's too bad, but it doesn't mean The End either.

Ignoring that half of the swords from Fallout 3 you stated were unique versions of the same sword, New Vegas has a few proper swords, Bumper Sword, Shishkebab, Machete (Yes, a machete is a sword), Machete Gladius, and I'm pretty sure that there is a unique Machete called the Liberator.

Op there are not 5 base swords in fo3.

Chinese officers sword

Shiscabob sp?

The shock sword is the top Chinese offivers sword, and vances shiscabob it it the top schiscabob.

There are 2 base swords in fo3.

Fo nv has machette, machette gladius, bumper sword, shiscabob.

Make no mistake fo nv has more base swords that fo3.

But the shocksword was a unique weapon; the personal blade of General Jingwei. :|

1. Other high ranking officers had the same weapons at Anchorage.
2. The US reverse engineered it.

Tesla Canon was also unique, yet it made it's way to the Mojave.
Same thing with Incinerator.
The Shock Sword could easily be transfered over.

There is the top machette givin to you by Dead Sea after he sents you alone to slaughter Camp Forlorn Hope. Should we count the liberator as a "base sword"? lol
