Tamriel Foundry ESO Survey

Post » Sun May 05, 2013 7:22 am

Yep, just cus their guild is heavily PvE doesn't mean the survey was more swayed that way. With just over a thousand people answering that survey I think that's a pretty good size sample pool.

I'm just still a bit surprised that overwhelming people are really excited to be a Nightblade. I mean it seems like it could be a cool class, but we no nothing about it at all. Like I said earlier I guess most people want to be an archer or rogue type character in ESO.

My theory is that they're excited because they know nothing about it. I'm thinking that maybe when information diffuses we'll see equalization

Yeah I think you might be right. We only truly know what abilities one class has (and that's the Sorcerer), but with the Dragon Knight and Templar we just kind of know of a few abilities and what their class tree are called. I think once we know all of the spells in the game people will make their judgement then on what they will play.

Why would their guild have to make up half the survey? Besides...birds of a feather and all...

I think I said "seems" to be built for PvP. And, yes, the stealthy, stick-you-in-the-back, horendous burst damage, character class types are generally built for PvP moreso than PvE. How many PvE groups run all stealth raids to complete high end content? Now ask how many all stealth groups do you think there will be in PvP content?

You can have any survey size you want. The volume of response is less important than the randomness of those responding...again...birds of feather...

How many complete full tank groups run around in PvP? How many CC + AE Burst groups run around in PvP?

I'd say put together they reach ~80% of the organized crowd in modern games. where is the place for your stealth action hero there if not in the scouting squad?

It's a little ridiculous to say birds of a feather here. The article tells you where he posted the survey, and his OP here is free of bias, unless you think we're all secretly meeting underground to destroy this poll :touched:. "Half" was a term meaning "a lot."

I won't argue the other point, but you're making it sound like a conspiracy and that he advertised only to a certain group of people, where you can see on the article that he hit all the major hubs. Sometimes a poll is just a poll, it doesn't have to be falsified just because the results are surprising.

A little ridiculous?

Are you saying I'm ridiculous?

Why are you trying to start a fight? I simply pointed out the inconsistency in the survey response with respect to the PvE/PvP numbers and the Nightblade class. Take a long breath and let it out slowly. There's no need to get you panties in a wad.

Conspiracy? A little defensive aren't you? Again, there is no need to start a fight simply because an inconsistency in the survey response is highlighted.

If you disagree with the inconsistency I pointed out that's fine. Thanks for disagreeing. But, honestly, there is no need to throw labels at me simply because you disagree. Let's try to keep the discussions friendly and open here.

With regards to "birds of a feather" it simply means if the responses came from a sample pool comprised of players who lean primarily toward PvE then the results will be slanted that way as well. Unless the pollster can produce some type of scientifically supported method for determining a random selection accross the entire population of those who will play the game was taken the poll is incapable of being a fair representation of the populace as a whole. I know you're smart. And I imagine you understand where I'm coming from. So, again, why are you trying to start a fight?

Vruk, I think you are missing a valuable point here. People could choose more than one option, so it's quite likely that many people selected both PvE and PvP activities as things they are looking forward to. Also, I think exploring the world and killing different AI mobs is going to be a fun activity for a large number of people.

Thanks for the response. The survey could very well be a fairly good representation of the population of people who will play the game. I was simply pointing out what I saw as an inconsistency between the number of people who are interested in what to me, again this is coming from my own bias and opinion, appears to be a PvP type class in the Nightblade and the delta between the PvE and PvP data. That is all. And in my "ridiculous" attempt to justify an explanation for the discrepancy I saw I concluded it "might" be due to the fact that the pollster is from a heavy PvE guild. It was really just a simple observation and conclusion.

Calm down, I'm not going to have this argument with you. We're not even married.

What was said has already been said; In my opinion I think it was a ridiculous statement. That doesn't mean I think you're dumb or stupid. If you found labels in my statement then I assure you that you put them there yourself, because I'm not in the business of pointless insults and I have better things to do than say rude things over the internet. There's a distinction between act and person. Alexander Graham Bell spent most of his time trying to breed 6 nipble sheep for no reason, but he was still a genius.

I recognize the difference between people and statements. I'm sorry your feelings are hurt, but I'm not going to argue over it.

If you want to use that notion, sure. So were Watson and Crick, Einstein, Edison, Franklin, Da Vinci, Galileo, Fleming, and many other inventors to varying degrees. In fact, I'm sure we both know that it's so prolific that you could point at any famous inventor and say he stole ideas, and it is probably true. If you want to argue over semantics, inventions, innovations and breakthroughs involving thievery we'll be here for a very long time.

I think that may be because the other 3 choices do not interest, or are just less interesting to players? Nightblade is the only "rogue-like" class thus far. I like playing bow using, duel wielding sneaky types. I am not at all interested in PvP.

The 1 part (2 questions) I found most interesting were the PvE and PvP questions. 52.51% was the lowest score in people looking for PvE aspects. (64.80% and 70.86% being the other 2 scores.) 58.75% was the highest score for people looking for PvP aspects. (41.81% and 54.75% being the other 2 scores.)

Great job! And interesting results. Looking forward to "Part Deux" :D

Yeah, I understand that people like the 'rogue' class that is the Nightblade, but we have no clue what it's class trees are. People assume that it will do with bows and duel wielding (which I think they probably will), but we also know that in this game that you can be any class you want and still use a bow or duel wield sneaky because weapons have their own skill line on them. I think people are just in the mindset that, "Oh I want to be a bow user so that means logically I should be a Nightblade." When we know this isn't true because any class can be a good bow user.

But that's just my thought on all of it. Again, I just thought it was weird that everyone is really wanting to be a class we know nothing about.

Indeed... you have to figure that Zen "teased" a few classes because people were clamouring to know. Although all evidence points to classes being so open-ended as to be a matter of taste rather than necessity, selecting from a limited number of options, people picked the most un-defined option for purposes of the poll.

On another note... one is surprised to see Khajiit surpass Argonian in popularity. Although only rational, one is saddened to see us lose our coveted third-from-basemant spot. Perhaps this points to the long-feared inrush of 'furries'... in which case one will have to studiously avoid dropping any soap whilst in-game. Incidentally, have never heard any decent explanation for the unpopularity of Redguard... always beat me, they seem a pretty coll bunch.

 at the Khajiit reference. I am puzzled by the lack of Redguard love, too. Maybe those choosing the "nightblade" also chose races that fit with that class concept? That could be a factor in both the Khajiit love and the Reguard snub...
