I used to work at GameCrazy, and I never really needed to throw my hard-earned cash down on new releases like this; I could just borrow an already-opened copy from the store. Perhaps this is why the justification of spending $60 (a good chunk of cash for the common individual) is hard for me to swallow. I was kind of spoiled. Hell, I never even purchased Oblivion, I just played it during my slow days at work. But I think anyone would agree that $60 is a lot of money.
But I digress...
Skyrim has had me completely enthralled for awhile now. I have always loved the Elder Scrolls series, and have been a big fan since Daggerfall. I had my qualms about the direction Bethesda took with Oblivion (stat-scaling was awful), but the allure of Elder Scrolls has always had me by the balls. I am a self-proclaimed uber geek, I have no problem admitting that, and I even take pride in it. However, I don't get hyped up as much as I did when I was a teen about game releases. I have obligations that I tend to before I sit down and enjoy a game. So perhaps this is a bit of an existential crisis, knowing that I have waited five years for this game only to have bug, after bug, after bug, after bug squash my expectations (as skewed as they may have been)... until finally I witness my hours of semi-enjoyment vanish into thin air along with my save file.
Should I start over and invest more of my time into this game? No, I don't think that's a fair risk to take as a consumer. I sold my copy shortly after posting my frustrations. I am not happy about it, and I know the developers over at Bethesda must be devastated to see so many complaints directed toward something they are quite passionate about. Or perhaps they are numb to the critique after the travesty that was the Fallout PS3 release. Either way, my middle finger is still raised... that [censored] hype can be a real b*tch man.
TL;DR- Don't put any of your time into this game until these game-breaking bugs are squashed...
