That none-ragdoll death animation... Why Bethesda, just why.

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 6:20 am

Dagger + stealth assassination finally feels like assassinations, thanks to the cut-throat kill-cam. That's probably the only one of them I consider necessary, but if all of the others could be made much, much faster and always in the same camera as the player (first person = first person kill cam, etc) then it'd be nice.

Archer + mage kill-cams are terrible though. Both the way the look and work.

Honestly? Don't really notice it. Kill enemies, they die. Flailing, dropping to the ground, de-rez, disappear in a cloud of sparkles..... whatever a game happens to use, it's all just "yay! you killed it!"

disclaimer: personal opinion.
This pretty much sums up my feelings. I don't notice the death animations much I'm already moving on to the next enemy.

Well, for those with the PC version I've been using this mod for like a month now to get rid of the spinning animation, it makes NPCs (and dragons if you get the other optional plugin which I did) just straight up ragdoll. The dragon no twich plugin is a must have for me too, it removes the stupid twitch thing they always do when they die.

Agreed. I especially hate it when I do a power attack to the left and the enemy spins and falls to the right. The kill then feels very artificial and it's just not as satisfying.

The part that really bothers me is when I kill something on a steep slope I have to chase it down the hill, as it slides away from me, so I can see if there is any decent loot...lol

Well that is needed. I mean imagine how boring it would be to shoot the adoring fan off a mountain without that!

Yeah it's crap.

I'd hypothesise players fall into two groups -

1/Those who think it's crap.
2/Those who don't care

class me in: I don't care. :)

My guess is that you haven't watched very many people die, have you OP?

People don't die instantly. Real humans take a few seconds to die, especially if they are being shot or stabbed. They often flail about, stumble around, roll on the ground, or make any number of gut-wrenching sounds and movements before they die.

Thanks for trying, but you are actually a little backwards in your anolysis. Most people die with some considerable "animation," quite unlike your assertion that they just go limp and fall down. They don't.

My guess this time is that you are completely confused as to my post. Clearly, I am aware that skyrim has a stupid death animation. I was talking about what happens when real people get killed. Thanks for trying though. Sorry about the misunderstanding.

Personally I dont seekrealism in the death animation in a game with dragons, magic and a character who can carry 1000 kg of stuff and sprint. For me is just for the fun.

I see this argument every day, and its a ridiculous one. Can't you see the difference in your flawed logic?

Realism in the small things are unrelated to realism in the big things like dragons and magic. You're as good as saying, since there's dragons and magic in the game there should be no magic casting animations because that's also unrealistic. See what i mean? Completely irrelevant. Chalk and cheese.

Death animations are grounded in reality, its what makes a game feel consistent and polished.

Dragons, magic etc are gameplay mechanics, they are there to improve the game in a different way. Realism within an fantasy world. You cannot compare them you daft child.

Great speech. But I dont see the flaw, may be because I dont care. AS someone suggested, try the mod. Sadly the game cant accomplish everyone′s taste because every person is different.
Perhaps my OPINION is just based on my taste and my lack of concerning about the specific animation, and why be troubled with logics? Its just taste.
And... child ? Im sure Im older than you, lad. If you cant stand at my opinion just dont read it or dont post on a public forum, because everyone (people who think like you and people who think different) will read it.

Its your opinion, yes, but it makes no sense so ill tell you why it makes no sense. If you had said "it doesn't bother me" instead of using irrelevant comparisons then it would have been fine.

Its just taste.
This animation isn't a matter of taste because it doesn't work correctly. You can not care about it, yes, but how can you like an animation that is stiff and completely pointless. If it wasn't so crazy over the top i might of liked it.

And if you're going to throw up "its just my opinion!" everytime someone calls you up on it, then you need a [censored] backbone.

I think it was designed to look good with a set number of attacks, which it does, but triggers far, far to often. I swing left to right; he spins right to left. Every time I see that it reminds me of this scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnHjVHydzFA

I agree with Blessedspirit. That argument makes no sense. it's like saying how it's okay there isn't any cape movement or animation because there's magic and dragons.
