That Other Courier

Simply, he was a goodfellow. He could be trusted with important information and plans. But you still cant "really" trust him, or even kill him (being as he's a goodfellow). the mob is wacky like that.

Benny can't even trust himself. I mean, he failed to kill you :P

Also, there are some other bits of information that never go anywhere. Doc Mitchell, when you ask about who "she" was, he tells you it's not important, but you know that there is going to be a dlc about his dead wife.

Theres really only one thing I can tell you about Doctor Mitchell. He his from Vault 21, so does common sense tell you to try checking out Vault 21? Theres a few dialogue options to talk about Mitchell and random stuff about the vault. This will unlock extra dialogue with Mitchell. (Psst, he mentions how "She died").

With the rest of the stuff you guys have been talking about though, I can't say I know anything about that guy.. but how cool would it be for the developers to give us yet another story/DLC focusing on some other player character starting in near by Tibbets Prison Facility formerly known as Arizona? :) DLC doesnt necessarily have to carry on with your current character after all. Pssh even do a cross-over with the 2 characters, fun times.

I'm actually glad that nobody has found the Burned Man, I mean, I'm almost sure hes in there but he is just not easy to find, I mean think about the chances of actually coming across this guy in real life, very slim. Or, this could just be a setup for a DLC, and if so, then I think its a great way to do so. In FO3 all the DLCs pretty much just jumped in your face like "Oh, theres this brand new thing that nobodys ever mentioned ever before but its really awesome so you should tottally go check it out, man." If this is setting up DLC then I'm liking approaching it this way, shows you that it would have a very deep story to it.

If that's the case, I can only dissagree. I don't like the thought of developers putting in hints about future DLC in the default game, because it indicates that they already thought of them before releasing the game, yet chose not to add it, probably just so they could milk more money from the fans. Now, obviously, it's possible that the designers wanted to do the content added in the DLC, but simply did not have time to, but if that's the case, they should at least have the dignity not to taunt us with content that we can't actually get until we pay an extra ten dollars. Now, just dropping the DLC somewhere and giving you a message telling you that it's there can sometimes seem a little glaring, but that depends on how its integrated, I mean, if you just add a note as soon as you start the game telling you where it is, that's going to seem out of place, but there are much better ways to introduce it too, and they don't necessarily need to require putting hints of it in the default game.

But I don't necessarily think the fact that a few things are introduced which don't go anywhere necessarily means that they're setups for DLC or plot threads that the writers forgot about. It's possible that they were just added in to provide the illusion that the game takes place in a larger world where things can happen outside of the things you get directly involved in. I mean, it's not like the entire plot won't make sense if you don't know what the Canyon Wreckage is or never actually get to see the burned man, at least I don't think it does, since I don't know the whole story and I'm going to try to avoid spoiling it, I can't say, but I somehow doubt that's vital information.

This post -literally- makes me cringe...

What kind of short-sighted lunacy are people suffering from, these days? Do people ACTUALLY think that DLC is content that hasn't been pre-planned from the get-go? Are there honestly people out there who are under the impression that some developer sitting around after release day says: "Oh, hell! I just remembered that there was this guy I wanted to make a story around! Let's fire up a DLC team!" or something? DLC is, at it's core, a system designed to milk you for money. The payoff, of course, being that you get MORE GAME for it! But don't ever delude yourself to the fact that they are PLANNING to add DLC even as they're creating the game itself. They're not just sitting around firing off ideas for cool [censored] to add to the game, then suddenly say 'Yeah, we need to do that one!'. Not usually, at any rate. That would be the exception, rather than the rule.

You have to make a decision, mate... and it's fairly simple. Either you need to accept that DLC is going to be a fact of your life, and simply allow it to be implemented in ways that make SENSE... or you need to settle for -not having it-... because personally, I don't think that however many of us out here who understand the true purpose of DLC should have to suffer from poor design decisions just because a sub-section of the potential market needs to be LIED TO in order to feel better about purchasing it.

[/rant]

Right then, with that out of my system... I -do- hope they talk some more about the Burned Man in DLC, at least, if not add him to the game. On the courier note, I haven't really gotten far enough into the game to even -think- about who that other courier was. So I suppose that that doesn't bother me too much. Really, I'm more curious about what kinds of things they WILL make for DLC.

Have they said anything about their plans other than that they DID have plans?

It should be interesting to see whether they aim for more of the 'Broken Steel' sort of DLC... or all the kind of smaller stuff which Bethesda chose to rule out entirely. Personally, I always wished that Bethesda would have made SOME of the less-expensive, less-involved DLC options as well. Sometimes all I really WANT is a few new guns and armors, in a shack.

Time will tell, I suppose.

He didn't look particularly burned when I took his helmet as a trophy.

I couldn't really tell because I blew his head off and couldn't find it again :') However, Legate Lanius is indeed the replacer for The Burned Man.

a Burned Man DLC would be epic...maybe a quest prompted by a somewhat-related MacGuffin is given to the courier...go to the Grand Canyon...learn there's an entire society down there who has recovered Joshua Graham's body and is worshipping it...idk. just a random idea im throwing out there.

I also believe the drive in movie screen outside Nipton has some burned man scrawlings like the burned man lives or something to that nature.

Sorry this is on the wiki already, i had no idea what the burned man was until i searched him

He's the replacement for the Burned Man in the Legion, yeah. Caesar tossed him in the grand canyon while on fire, then appointed Lanius in his place.

They're two different people though.
