The beauty of the Blades Armor

Post » Thu Aug 16, 2012 12:37 pm

So my charming Nord Dragonborn Axe/Shield Warrior, Nezgalf Honor-Bound came upon the set of Blades Armor while doing the MQ. And I must say, even after creating the Ebony Armor, it just doesn't match him to the extent where the Blades Armor does.

Walking around towns with the helmet off looking like a charming knight of fairy-tales? Checked.

Equipping your helmet just before heading out on a mission, axing down foes with his legendary Ebony Axe? Checked.

While I'm still in pursuit for the dragonbone armor when the time comes, the Blades Armor my friends, is the real beauty of vanilla Skyrim.

P/S: Or maybe it's just my fetish for something blue-ish.

I liked the Blades armor, but in some way it seemed lacking. I'm not really sure why. Possibly also due to the fact that I haven't done the MQ in a long time.

I gotta disagree though. I think dragonplate looks so much better than dragonbone. I wish they could have done something different with that.

Edit: Now that I think about it. I haven't looked at blades armor on my PC version yet, only on my Xbox. Maybe it'd look better that way. I'll have to check that out.

I dig the Blades armor too. It's an interesting melange of roman and japanese styles (lamellar and lorica segmentata to be exact)

Blades armor is awesome. Not only is it one of the best non enchanted heavy armors in the game, it also looks badass.

Ah silly of me, I meant dragonplate armour. I just hope it'll look respectable without the helm, the way Blades Armor seems to whisper in my head.

And I'm glad there are others who appreciate this work-of-art too.

I agree OP! I think the Blades armour is one of the most beautiful sets in the game. It's probably better-looking than Elven AND the Dragon armours, imo.

You won't have to actually.

Spoiler
When you reach the Sky Haven Temple, the set would be there for the taking.

Blade's Armor is one of the best looking in the game. Shame it doesn't come in light, though.

They need to introduce more Blades weapons other than just a katana. The katana gets real boring and has no real significant advantage over other swords.

Still my favorite armor set in the game, and probably the only one that I have not felt the need to retex or remodel with mods in order make it more aesthetically pleasing - aside from mods that do a little retexing on the hilt of the katana and provide a sheath for it when equipped by followers.

Dragonbane and Oathblade would like a word with you. :P

OTOH I'm biased because I like katanas, I just wish they were 2H instead of 1H. Wielding that type of sword exclusively with one hand just feels wrong.

Actually you can get it very early on in game, and is equivalent to a Skyforge Steel Sword, making it a fantastic starter sword.

Agreed. I heavily sighed on UESP when I discovered there's no Blades War-Axe. It just doesn't feel right slicing a dragon with a Katana. So yeah, I'm stuck with the ebony axe until I can find something more matching to this armor.

On a side-note, what is the advantage of joining the Blades? And do the dragon-hunting radiant quest involve the whole group or just one follower?

Yeah I know about those "unique" Katanas, but other than that they are just.............blah! Nothing real special. It's not like you can acquire any special samuri warrior moves with using it. That would be cool if you could, then I could see myself wanting to be more like the blades.

True, but I still don't feel quite like a "ninja" or samuri when I use it. If I'm going to use a particular style of weapon, I want to be able to acquire the moves and finese that would be associated with that particular weapon.

See, I like the idea of a katana being a 2 handed weapon instead. It is intended to be a two handed weapon in the first place.

On one playthrough I recruited the max 3 new members for them, and went on one of the dragon hunting quests. All three showed up. So I assume that however many recruits you've brought them, they will all show up if you ask for help when you take one of those quests.

In answer to your first question,
Spoiler
you can't really join the Blades, just recruit new members for them. There are the dragon hunting quests already mentioned. Also you can get the Dragonslayer blessing from Esbern, plus there is a potion he will make you if you bring him the necessary ingredients. One or both of those was apparently glitched and didn't work, I'm not sure which one or if the glitch was ever fixed in a patch. You have to remain in their good graces (i.e. kill Paarth when asked) in order to continue taking advantage of those possibilities.

However, all of those things can be done BEFORE you get the request to kill Paarth, so if you want to get the full "Blades experience" it is possible to do so without ever kiling him. If you play your cards right, it's possible to do so without ever getting the request to kill him at all; just make sure you've done all you want to do with them before you get to that point in the game, and then don't go back there again. Might be tricky if you do Season Unending, altho I managed to get through that without ever speaking directly to them so they never got the chance to issue the order there either.

Ninjas didn't use Katanas, they used Ninjato more of a utility sraight bladed sword.

There is the Ebony Blade, but its kind of bugged and non-upgradeable and while it has a nice enchant once you level it, its hard to build a samurai build around it.

They just have neglected anything asian or asian-like culturewise in Skyrim.
