The best bookseries you've ever read?

Post » Wed May 02, 2012 6:25 pm

I'm probably not as well read as I should be but I think out of the ones I have read, although it may not be the best, Harry Potter was the most enjoyable series that I've read.

Individual books is probably either The Stand or Connecticut Yankee.

In terms of series I really loved The Black Magician's Trilogy by Trudi Canavan. It's a bit schmatzy and probably aimed at older teens but I really enjoyed it. The Hunger Games was a really pleasant surprise too.

The Chronicles of LonTobyn trilogy:
  • Children of Amarid (book 1)
  • The Outlanders (book 2)
  • Eagle Sage (book 3)
Written by David B. Coe. If you enjoy original high-fantasy stories I really recommend this one.

  • The Agony and the Ecstasy
  • Aku-Aku, The Secret of Easter Island
  • The Lusty Argonian Maid :frog:

Joe Abercrombie's First Law Trilogy + the standalone stories of it. It's not the best series imo, but deserves more attention.

Iain M. Bank's Culture novels. Excession is probably my favourite. Such dark humour.

Second would be Mike Moorcock's Dancers at the End of Time.

My favourite book of all time? A Canticle for Leibowitz.

A Canticle for Leibowitz is also my all time favorite book !!!

By the way, for those who like Fallout, that book also takes place in a post nuclear world as civilization rebuilds itself. It's really funny in parts, and sad and thought provoking in others.

But as far as series go, LOTR is obvious. But aside from that, I like Asimov's Foundation Series.

I also loved Dune but that is one of my least favorite book series. The first book was fantastic but all the sequels by Frank Herbert were crud. IMO.

:D It's so rare that anyone else has read that book, it really is one of the best science-fiction novels of all time. Shame Miller only wrote the two books in his life. A very thought provoking book and something to give anyone who says that all science-fiction (a genre that it's really only arbitarily considered anyway) is all silly something to eat with their words.

Probably The First Law by Joe Abercrombie (plus the standalones). Similar to ASOIAF, but with less [censored] and more characterisation.

"The Shadow over Insmouth", "At the mountains of madness", both by H.p Lovecraft, and of course glen cook's "Black company".
And "Gaunts ghosts" is very good.

Add me to the pack, it's also one of my favorites. I really need to get around to the second book some time, although at the moment my reading queue is pretty long.
